How Can Christians Redeem the Time? Part 1

This post was inspired by Prophetess Arlene Dorn's post on dealing with stress. As a corporate business trainer and coach, I am continually amazed at how people in corporate America take a hold of a concept like time management and then implement strategies to improve their lives. As Christians, we must do the same!

Ephesians 5:16 speaks of "Redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Time in this verse is the Greek word: Kairos (καιρός) meaning the right or opportune moment. Kairos signifies a time in between, a moment of undetermined period of time in which something special happens.

Are you waiting on God to do something special on your behalf? Who isn't; right? Are you prepared so that when that "something special" happens you are positioned to get the most from it? Let me take this to its' base level and talk to you about time management -- day in, day out ways to make the most of your moments.

Small changes over time, make a big difference. This is called the Slight Edge Principle, and when applied correctly will make an amazing difference in your life. Think about it. Let's say you're waiting for God to open doors for you to preach and teach. What could you be doing in the meantime? Well, you could write sermons so that you are prepared when that door does open. My pastor, Bishop James Bishop, encourages his ministers to write a sermon every month. Even though none of us preach every month (not yet!), when we are called on we are ready. The small change is to devote 30 minutes a week to writing a sermon, you'll stand prepared and anointed to expound on God's word when the time comes.

What about waiting for God to deliver a loved one from drugs, alcohol, jail, or an abusive situation? Why not take a few minutes every few days to find scriptures that relate to deliverance and then another few minutes to speak those faith-filled words every day? This will build your spirit-man, and when the enemy tries to tell you what God is not going to do, You can counter that because you've take the time to make a small change which yields a great result.

How about losing weight? Apply the Slight Edge Principle! I read a story about a woman who lost 130 pounds in a year simply by planning ahead of time what she was going to eat. WOW!

So think about it, how can you apply the Slight Edge Principle in your life and your ministry?
