Living on Our Grandmother’s Prayers- Sandra Dukes,a.m-

This morning I was blessed with the Holy Spirit bringing to my remembrance in the form of song and prayer that of my great- grand mother. As the tears flowed down my face and I felt this incredible joy of knowing I know who my God and Savior is , I began to sing, “ If it wasn’t for the Lord tell me what would I do. He’s been every, everything to me”. And as the flow of the Holy Ghost began to move within me and upon me, I began to pray and I began to remember parts of one of Mama Lee’s prayers. And then Brother Eric, I thought on your message about our church mother’s of old. How we would rise and go to church on the summer Sundays of my annual visit to the country. The house always smelling of some delicious aroma for the after -church dinner; of something freshly baked, fried chicken, purple-hull peas and hot- water cornbread. I remember the rush of great, grand and parents shouting out orders to playful children to “hurry up and get dressed, we‘re going to be late for church “. And then Brother Eric the sweetest memory came to my spirit of the calmness, the peace that would come over us as we bombarded the front door. There standing was my great-grandmother in all her stewardess white, by my Daddy Walker, her husband and prayer partner for over sixty -years, smiling and humming a song of praise. The memory was so sweet it brought a fragrance of Camay soap and Lily of the Valley perfume. I could feel my Mama Lee’ love, God’s presence and I heard her prayer sing out from the past still sealing my family’s future. “If it wasn’t for the Lord tell me what would I do- Thank you Father for this day of blessing ,that me and Walker can see your mercy and grace manifested in the face , health and prosperity of our children, Lord. You’ve been water when we was thirsty; our food in barren lands, you comforted us when we were sick, God you always, always been on hand. You’ve been every, everything God to me”…….Amen

We serve a MIGHTY, MAGNIFICENT, AWESOME and POWERFUL GOD y'all! Sis Tara for your Great-Grandmother to pray FOR you BEFORE you were even born...NOTHING BUT GOD! That's what I miss about "Mother" and her "church buddies" ....lol..."Sis. Hamilton" she called HAM and "Sis. Parks". They NEVER referred to each other by first name. It was either Sis..or just the last name. They would call each other up and get on a mission for the LORD! If someone was sick in the community..."Mother" would get up on the phone EARLY..saying "Ham..you up? We got work to do". They cooked for, cleaned the houses of and nursed those sick and shut in, cleaned the church, and then some. All the while discussing how good God is, sharing testimonies and prayer requests. Ohhhh...but when those Sisters got together and PRAYED...I LOVED it. Bro Eric, like you said...the CHILLS alone were powerful. You could feel the Holy Spirit moving and the devils fleeing. I'm talking TRUE PRAYER WARRIORS. Now, don't EVEN get me started on the country cooking..lol...I would eat til I was literally hurting..lol...you know when you can't even hardly breathe? Just wonderful memories.

What wonderful stories of God’s blessings and mercies , Thank You, Your Sister in Christ.

Psalm 139:13-16
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

How blessed we are when we embrace our generational blessings and pick up the banner for Christ Jesus , our Lord and Savior, for God is abundant in blessings, grace and mercies when we honor ,worship and obey His commandments and the Holy Scriptures in the name of Jesus.
Father God we come to you giving praise for the powerful topic given to Brother Eric by the Holy Spirit. A message in which we as followers and doers of your word will study the Holy Scriptures, meditate on the Word. Allowing our spiritual man and our ancestors’ legacies of the reverence of YOU again embrace in the spiritual womb. Oh God let us take these remembrances and nurture ourselves, our family and others with the “bread of life and the living waters of life everlasting.” Amen

I say it and take it to my grave there is no love like the memories of Grandma prayers..never was about how much money they had because it was'nt much but what they taught was better than money,,Now both of y'all are trying to start something..LOL smile ,,OH GOD ,,HELP ME ,,,PRECIOUS LORD SANG WITH NO MUSIC,,and the house or church the voice echoes while your body has been KIDNAPPED by chills from the essence of the Holy Ghost,,and at the end of the song when it is sanged AND LEEEEEEEAD ME HOOOOOME and then there is a silence followed by the tears every demon has 12 seconds to leave the building,,and your wondering what happened but they knew,,they were getting you ready for the work of the ministry,,if you notice we all done something in the church growing up..Sis Dukes and Sis.Hawkins dont start talking bout no country cooking,,I could not eat ham stemming from dizziness, pork and I dont get along,,grandma would take a ham and soak it in Giner ale and orange juice for a day,,the acid pulled out all the infection from the ham,,and bake it four hours covered and two uncovered,,base it with fresh honey from the honey comb and fresh pineapples and it didnt even taste like ham,we ate EVERYTHING from scratch..I AM GOING ,Ya'll made me hungry,,LOL

POWERFUL! It's amazing how memories of our "Elders" and how they worshipped can bring us through and lift us up. My Grandmother's song of praise was "Precious Lord". I remember over hearing my Grandmother on the phone one day talking to a new member of her church. The lady was asking "Mother", as we called her, HOW to pray. Mother begin giving her scriptures to refer to and the advice of coming from the heart. The next thing I new, Mother was on the phone, forgot she was even baking Sweet Potato Pies, and got DEEP in prayer. She prayed til the walls started sweating. THAT was my very first encounter with the Holy Spirit. Still a blessing to this day.
