In a discussion with my Islamic child she brought up the Moslem understanding that Christians worshiped an idol named Jesus.
{." Ever since I was a child, I have never understood how
or why people worship "Jesus" over "God".
I never when I was a child, but I always knew that that was not for me.
God is the creator...
Thou shall not worship idols (for me that also meant things that God had
created like animals, ancestors etc...)

}

That led to the following explanation and I thought I would share here and see what others have to say on the subject.

I do ask that you respect Islam, my child and the misunderstanding.
If possible, save the scripture quotes, I know them already. I would like to read reasoned discussion.

How do we deal with the Trinitarian being that is God?

In the thought of many God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit are three separate individuals that exist in heaven.
Jesus is dealt with from the earthly aspect that was inhabited.
The Holy Spirit/Ghost is some ghostly manisfestation.
And God as some human shaped, human acting diety.

None of that is true.

God in any form is God.
God is Jesus.
God is the Holy Spirit.

God is. That is all there is.
God exist in the here and now. The past. The future. But functions in the here and now I AM that I AM.

The 3 in 1. There is no difference God-Jesus-Holy Spirit, they represent the three ways that the One God interfaces with humans.
People are unable to deal with the entity that is God one on one.
Jesus is God in human flesh (more on that when you wish) come to experience being human. You create something, but that does not mean you know what that something experiences, so being the one with the power you become that creation and you truly walk a mile in its shoes and see through its eyes, more importantly you feel, love, and emote as that creature.
Empathy, it is called, it is the basis of Grace that allows Mercy.
Acts 1:8 Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to dwell among us, God's spirit to stay in contact.
People within Christianity have difficulty with the concept because they have been led (by well meaning clerics) to the misconception of dealing with three separate beings.

Christians worship only God. If called Jesus that is the human interface of God that allows access to God. We are too sinful to come to God directly.
The Holy Spirit exists in the place of Jesus, Acts 1:8

It is but three points of one entity.

As Christians we are implored to pray to Jesus "The Intercessor"
who relies our pray to God. I did not make the system I only follow
it. Jesus is representative of the mercy of God who in Justice would turn a
deaf ear on out pleas.
Jews under the Law can only expect Justice which will always find them wanting.

Christians under Jesus (Mercy) are known to be filthy rags but we have been washed by the blood of Jesus and have been accepted. Part of this is based on the Jewish cultures way of
adoption.

As I write I am getting deeper and deeper, This is not a one sentence explanation. If in Islam what you say is what is taught about Jesus then that is not what is written in the gospels.
Jesus can continued to be viewed as a prophet, but Jesus is the prophet that saved you. Jesus now offers salvation by your belief in him.

Remember Jesus came first to the Jews who were so hung up on Law that they did not want to let it go.
(Note: the people at large were not clinging, it was the religious institution
that had a good thing going with the temple, today's Christian church
leadership
would be the same way)

The Pharisees and Sadducees, mostly middle-class businessmen, and aristocrats. Though the Pharisees were rivals of the Sadducees, they
managed to set
aside their differences on one occasion—the trial of Christ
. (note:note we are not to treat
traditions as having equal authority as Scripture,
and we are not to allow our relationship with God to be reduced to a
legalistic list of rules and rituals.)
