Preacher's Honorariums...When do we get to the place when unless you pay I wont preach?

Just a thought! We have come to a place when the name of Jesus is not as popular as our title and name? So if a preacher has a popular name this determines his/her worth of honorarium.

This is an issue that is definately not taught in seminary, bible schools, or for that matter by Pastors to their associates. I the root cause of some of this is a lack of mentoring and / or mentoring by the WRONG folk. That is why I love the profession that I am in. It gives me an opportunity to minister to ministers on a daily basis.

You would be amazed at the amount of "Sur-vivals" are had here and at the end of the day, the souls are the ones who walk away at a lose. The business of the gospel must be handled in a business-like way. If it is handled legitimately, all are blessed.

Thank you Pastor Young. That is very helpful information. I believe that the ministers should be given a love offering or honorarium based on an agreement between the host church (Pastor, Board of trustees, and if necessary congregation) and the minister. Hopefully the intent or motive isn't money, but a fair offering that is recorded as income (1099) by the host church is best. My point is that there are many great men and women of God (BPN) who may not have the privilege to minister in some congregations due to the fact that 1) they are unknown, 2) they are treated as a commodity, instead of a vessel of God, 3) money is the intent of both the church and the minister instead of souls, and 4) the lack of passion for souls, but excitement of financial gain from the souls of men. If money is the drive and the intent to do ministry and the finances are low, then entrepreneurship, MLMs, or qualified employment based on skills and experience is suggestive to keep discouragement, greed, and lack of integrity out of the pulpit. Possession of kingdom wealth is another level of accountability, responsibility, and integrity. To whom much is given, much is required, to whom much is committed, much is asked of. Luke 12:48

Consider this:

How much does the average congregant make an hour VS. how much we may get for a 30 - 45 minute sermon? Collectively, how much time does it really take to prepare a message and deliver it? We know the Word of God is worth more than anything we may get, but if you hadto put a price tag on your "Public Speaking Enterprise" what do you really expect per person...

Knowing that the average offering (counting all persons in attendance from the smallest child to the oldest adult) is about $3-5 dollars (with now gimmicks, or offering raising techniques), per service, it is pretty easy to know what your honorarium should be. It is also differnt from a local, regional, and national perspective.

The national ministries take into account the entire expenses of operation (ie:event televsion and radio in the market, payroll, mass mailings, travel, etc). I agree that some of the honorariums are ridiculus, but it all does not go into the preachers pocket. Nationals are simular to concerts and plays which have hefty budgets and personell to pay. This is not an excuse for a $5K prayer, lawd can you imagine what the prayer line would bring (lol)

God Bless you Pastor Young. It is an ever going conversation. The value of principle, integrity, and righteousness is always at stake if our worth is based on how much money we can raise for ourselves.
