Preacher's Honorariums...When do we get to the place when unless you pay I wont preach?

Just a thought! We have come to a place when the name of Jesus is not as popular as our title and name? So if a preacher has a popular name this determines his/her worth of honorarium.

Patrick,

My response to that situation is to raise a speakers offering and all monies go to you and they do not need to take it in the back and count it.

I have found out that you get more money that way. Of course, the Pastor and the deacons do not like it because they do not know what you are getting.

The scriptures talk about a Prophet reward, honor thy Men or Women of God, etc. (paraphrased)

Does this mean that we should be paid a fair wage? If we are not paid then how are we suppose spread the gospel? Even if we do street preaching it takes money?

Just a thought!

It seems that this problem is worldwide. It is suggested that we should set a price beginning for $500 or 60% to 75% of the offering plus all monies raised from the speaker offering or if you are preaching Monday thru Friday: you let the church keep the offering from Monday thru Thrusday and the offerings on Friday is yours (mean the general offering and the speakers offering raised by the speaker.)

This is additional to the church provide lodging accomdations and transportation to and from the church if flying. If you are driving they are suppose to pay for the mileage at the federal price going rate.

No it doesn't always happen like that, but at some point, we will remember that we are servants of Jesus Christ. Our Heavenly Father will provide for us. If it becomes more of a money issue, then it is best to have another source of income so that it will not distract us from the main purpose of the call, "to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ". I prefer to be a blessing to a congregation and have no hindrances of money, debts to the church, or misunderstanding of my purpose for preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sometimes it requires us to be tent-makers and entrepreneurs to sow our seeds without charge for the kingdom of God. Its God's Word and it is a pleasure and honor to be a vessel or instrument used by Him.

One other question...have you been in a situation where you were told that what you gave as an honorarium was insufficient....?....If so how did you handle it...?

That's exciting to know that souls are the reward from the preachers of "God's Word". Yes suffering goes with this territory, but the rewards of seeing souls saved is all the more worth it!

To my sisters and brother of the messenger,

It is sad to hear so many if us who have been mishandle by those who called themselves Preachers or Pastors after God own heart mistreat us financially.

My experience is that I was ask to preach out of state and was told they would pay for my travel when I get there. Let me tell you not only after I preached 15 people came to the altar and join the church. What I got was my travel ticket paid for and the Pastor said, many of us need to be like you. I said, what do you mean? If I only got to pay for your travel and hotel and do not give you an offering. You are a bargain!
Ya'll I left there with the exact price of my plane ticket $368.12. Let me remind you that this was a friend in the gospel. This person had the nerve to tell his friends what they did!!!! I guess the laugh was on me.

I agree with you Pastor Smith in that God will surprise us just the time we aren't looking for one. I further agree with ReeRee in that we must do it WILLINGLY without regard to forthcoming compensation and God has never failed us...I happen to trust God's track record...
