Wow! Its been almost three months since I have blogged and lots have been happening! As new laws are passed allowing the gay community more freedom to receive human rights, I hear silence from the church community. Sure I hear jokes and comments made within small groups. I find that no one really wants to offend by calling sin, sin! Amazing!
Recently I thought as Christians how are we really responding to what seems to be a sweeping epidemic in the nation? This topic is saturating the news, our children are having to face the struggle of deciding what sexual orientation they are, states are fighting whether to honor gay marriage or not. Why are either of these a question that needs decision, no less a law?
Over the past couple of weeks, I have found myself listening to others of the faith speak with outrage at the above listed challenges that homosexuality is causing in our nation. So I found myself asking them do you pray about this daily? The responses I have received is what do you mean preacher woman? Or huh??? What???
This came about because I too would speak in outrage about what is going on and one day I distinctly felt impressed with this thought, well since you are upset about this, why is it not on your prayer list for daily intercession? I thought Ouch! That was a ping! So this blog is simple and I am challenging every Christian to pray everyday about the situation of moral spiritual warfare that is plaguing our nation from President Obama's actions to the state levels. I challenge the Christian community to remember 2 Chronicles 7:14 that states: My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
I find that we all have opinions, but most don't want to work at what it really is going to take to defeat the enemy where it counts. Christians don't pray. If homosexuality affects our immediate family we may pray, otherwise we are vocal about how biblically wrong it is, but who really is crying out to God to do something about it. Are we praying about this in our prayer meetings and prayer groups? Are pastors praying openly about it from the pulpit in the pastoral prayer? Over and over in the Bible you read how David cried out to God, Solomon prayed for wisdom, Moses prayed, Elijah prayed, Deborah prayed, Esther prayed, Hannah prayed, the prophetess in the temple prayed daily, are we not the believer, why aren't we praying daily about this moral outcry!
My challenge to every believer today is to add the issue of homosexuality to your daily prayers. Let's take God at his word that if we will humble ourselves and stop thinking this is an issue for the government to handke, seek his face, turn from our sinful nature, he promises to forgive us and heal the land. Come on Christians where is the army of soldiers we claim that we are?
