The great question- “ Who’s your covering?”

As a Christians and minister ,I have heard and even been questioned as to “ Who is my covering”?

This question as to “who is your covering?” has always bothered me, because it implies that I have need of someone (A PERSON) to tie my spiritual shoes and walk me through my ministerial journey. “I know off the bat” that some of you who are reading this are going to say “ it’s about accountability or submission” so because I know your thinking this, I will knock on that door from the start with my own question”

Who are you accountable to?

And to whom do you submit to?

Now I know what being accountable means to me as well as submission, so I will not tarry with trying to explain with what I believe it to be! Surly in this reading you will see what I know it to be.

“I have to admit”, when first approached with this question I thought I had missed some form of Doctrine or that I didn’t know God as I do today, And even in my answer to that question I would always seem to get stumped by those who would pose the question.

“Now when I say stump” I don’t mean to imply that “I didn’t know how to tie my own spiritual shoes and needed some bigger or stronger Christian to tie them for me” What I mean is “ Don’t they know already?”

of course all of us have someone who mentored us and guided us as we began our journey into ministry, but even with that “ We Submitted to them because they knew the Lord!”

I remember as a child having to give account to my parents as to my whereabouts

And how I had a choice, but it was not a choice that I was willing to trifle with because I knew the consequences if I chose not to. Thus not only for fear did I obey them, but also because they had my best interest at heart. They Loved me!

Sounds a lot like Jesus which bring me to the meat of this reading.

Psalm 91:1-4 Says…….

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

So with all that being said, I now pose the question!

WHO IS YOUR COVERING?

Great Message!!! Thank you. I do believe that we should be accountable. It's just plain healthy. What I do not believe is that one manipulate, strong arm, use fear tactics, shame, belittle or say anything from the the pulpit that would cast an aspersian over a saint to try an force one into accepting a concept, idea or beliefs about Covering. Worst still to use God's time and sanctioned place as a throughoff soapbox for the unscriptural ungospel teaching on coverings (not the birth, death and ressurrection) out of fear that if done properly in private you may have to substantiate your beliefs with scripture. Instead its done publicly where there is tacit agreement from saints many of whom dont read their bibles so that don't really know if its there or not, or solicit agreement from saints who amen anything that comes from the pulpit godly or ungodly.. Now that's unhealthy. A consistent behavior of the "Covering" proponents.

God knows I believe in having a Pastor. God would not have included it in the five-fold ministry gifts if he didn't intend for us to have them. But, God deliver me from the Jezebel Spirit, the Big I Little You syndrome, the cult leader, the Big Cheese, Big Hen little chicks - This is worldly stuff. I come to the house of God to Worship God give him praise and glory with like saints who love, adore and appreciate a loving and gracious God. Then I want to go home!!!!!!!!!!

I am so thrilled to see people understand the point I am making. " I had this on another Christian site and some people just don't get it"
Thank you.

Micah RaSun-Vann: You're always on point! Yes, I agree with your response. Further, "Spiritual Covering" has been so abused and so taken out of context (if it were ever in con=text of Scripture!) that most leaders do not understand what it means to provide spiritual covering beyond the scope of AUTHORITY and SUBMISSION TO AUTHORITY. The only AUTHORITY is: JESUS IS LORD!
"SPIRITUAL COVERING" has been so taken out of context that Church leaders have manipulated as a tactic of abuse for "spiritual control." The only thing "spiritual" about this unauthorized and illegal control is that it is inspired by demon-spirits of deception and error. The authoritarian leader demands SUBMISSION and OBEDIENCE to the authority of man, not to the authority of God. I like the way Steven Lambert, ThD describes it into proper context:

”The premise of ABSOLUTE SUBMISSION is predicated on the hypothesis that the spiritual leaders are in effect (though most would emphatically deny the attribution) "spiritual mediators" between God and their followers, who assume the role of hearing from God on the behalf of their followers. According to the premise, the followers are spiritually deficient and inferior to the leaders, and thus basically incapable of seeking and hearing from God for themselves and cultivating on-going communion and fellowship with God, so they need a "mediator," someone who supposedly has a more elite status with God, to be a priestly "go-between" between them and God. The hypothesis is that the leaders are much more spiritual than the people, and therefore more capable of receiving from God what is best for their followers. By the way, if that premise sounds familiar to you, you are right, because in essence it is virtually identical to the theories upon which the surrogate priesthood and papal system of Catholicism were based, which, totally supplanted and negated the personal priesthood of believers in the Medieval Church.

This whole matter of "spiritual mediators" is so totally ludicrous and such a complete affront to the truth of the personal priesthood of believers that every knowledgeable believer should be thoroughly disgusted and totally outraged at such an idiotic, outlandish, and even blasphemous notion. The Bible explicitly says: "There is one God, and ONE mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all...." (1 Tim. 2:5). There is never, ever to be any "spiritual mediators" between God and men, except the Christ — Jesus Himself. The Man with the nail-prints in His hands is the only true spiritual mediator between God and Man. All the rest are pretentious impostors!

Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that COVER with A COVERING, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: That walk to go down into EGYPT, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh [symbol of Satan and autocratic dictators in Scripture], and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your CONFUSION. For his princes were at Zoan [aka, Goshen, where Pharaoh met with Moses and Aaron; Easton's Bible Dictionary], and his ambassadors came to Hanes. They were all ashamed of a people that could not PROFIT them, nor be an help nor PROFIT, but a shame, and also a reproach. (Isaiah 30:1-5; KJV; emphases and parentheses added)

Amen!!! Paul said follow me as i follow Christ. These days it's becoming more and more evident that this should be burned in our hearts and we must exercise our God given wisdom. If you stop following Christ, I may stop following you but I'll still have my covering.
