Man of God:

Thank you for honoring me with your comments and response to my question. I really appreciate and respect a man that has a conviction and a passion but most importantly I respect a man's position with God. I am always open to allow God to be God and to speak how and when He so desires. You are my brother and I think that for the most part we are on the same page and we certainly hear from the same God. I am praying for you that the world and the family of God would embrace those things that God reveals to you that line up with His word and seek to better the kingdom. I really appreciate your openess to my comments and I believe, for what its worth that God will continue to use you to effect change. Be blessed my brother.
Thanks, my brother, Willard L Smith, for your kind words and advise.

Regarding your question: why or what brought about such passionate convictions regarding this matter? My answer is in the Scripture passage I used for the theme text of the article:

Matthew 23:8-11: "But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called…

And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant."

It is obvious from the Scripture passage and the contextual Scriptures around the passage that Jesus was concerned about the issue.

Regarding your advise: "I know that we all have our differences or beliefs, but could we be better served if we took just as much energy to really make an impact on the earth. I think a talented man such as yourself could serve the kingdom better by presenting to the world such commentaries that challenge their notions and system. I further think that such a subject as titles and who should have them or not is an issue that does nothing to change and transform the world for God. The battle is outside of the house."

I appreciate your advise. However, it is beyond me to fulfill what you think I should be doing in the Kingdom. By the Cross and with respect to the Lordship of Christ in His Kingdom I realize to be a servant of the Lord I must serve how and where He assigns me and not where I or men may think I should. But let me say this: without ignoring the need to change the world's system, I am convinced that there is much of the worldly system in "the house" that needs to be dismantled while we pursue changing and transforming the world.

I reviewed the Scripture passsages you suggested. Thanks for pointing them out. They seem to me to be consistent with the message of the article and fit quite well with the article's conclusion:

"Men may assume for themselves or ascribe to others titles of ministries, contrary to the Lord’s command, but ministry titles do not provide real ministries. Only the Lord gives and ordains His ministries in the Church. "For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends" (2 Corinthians 10:18). If the Lord has given you a ministry, He will commend you in the ministry, not by a title, but by His own confirmation in the demonstration of the Holy Ghost and power. But the ministry the Lord gives is to make you a servant in the Church and not to exalt you in any superior position over His people."

Pray for me, my brother.

Your brother

My brother:

Let me commend you for what I consider to be a well written blog or better yet, commentary. I am impressed with the amount of information that you shared, and even though that may mean littlle, it comes from someone who trusts in God and His divine leading. I am in agreement with you in most cases. My only concern is that I would like for you to read a few scriptures as follows:

1 Cor. 4:9

1 Cor 15:9

2 Cor. 11:5, 12:11

1 Ti 2:7

These scriptures do not refute your claims, but I think that they suggest that a title is not a real issue with God. I honestly believe that ascribed titles are only for identification and recognition and I like you feel that God has called us to be a servant first and foremost. There are other scripture that lend themselves to identifying Gods servants as Prophets, Elders and so on.

May I ask, why or what brought about such passionate convictions regarding this matter? I know that we all have our differences or beliefs, but could we be better served if we took just as much energy to really make an impact on the earth. I think a talented man such as yourself could serve the kingdom better by presenting to the world such commentaries that challenge their notions and system. I further think that such a subject as titles and who should have them or not is an issue that does nothing to change and transform the world for God. The battle is outside of the house. I am graced once again with your gift for writing but I would be remiss if I did not encourage you to channel your energy into tearing down the systems of the world. God will deal with those of us who use titles if it is such an issue with Him. In the mean time, lets do kingdom business and make the world see their errors and be transformed into His image. Be blessed man of God and know that you have a friend.
