Praise God from whom all blessings flow! I hope this message finds you well. St. John's A.M.E. Church located at 326 Pacific Avenue, Jersey City, NJ is hosting a Seven Last Words of Christ Service on Good Friday, April 6, 2012 at 1:00 PM. For those of you who are not aware, St. John's AME Church is conveniently located at Exit 14C on the New Jersey Turnpike, and for those who are in New York City, we are located right outside the Holland Tunnel; just four blocks away from the Liberty Science Center and Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ.  Our church was damaged by Hurricane Irene last August 2011 and is currently under repair. With this in mind, we will be worshipping at Assumption-All Saints Roman Catholic Church, located at 344 Pacific Avenue, Jersey City, NJ. The church is conveniently located next to St. John’s A.M.E. Church, and has a seating capacity of 500.  In addition, the church has a parking lot available.

Proceeds from the Good Friday Seven Last Words Service will benefit The Rev. Thelma Smith Building Fund and will be used to help us continue to repair work on our church, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Irene. It is our fervent wish that this event will enrich the lives of the community as well as the participants, and to encourage them into forming a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to your participation. A flyer has been attached with this message. We are asking everyone to please share this information with your church, neighbors, family, and friends. We need your support! Spread the word!

Greetings Christian Friends:

In recognition of National Bible Week, St. John's AME Church located at 326 Pacific Avenue Jersey City, New Jersey is hosting its First Annual Public Reading of the Bible in the City Council Chambers at Jersey City Hall located at 280 Grove Street, Jersey City NJ, on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 12:00 Noon. Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, and Deputy Mayor Tayari Kabili, who is also the NAACP President will be present, as well as the Rev. Dr. Rudolph P. Daniels, Sr., President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Jersey City and Vicinity. To that end, we were informed by the Cultural Affairs Office of Jersey City that this event is a first for the city as well as for The State of New Jersey. Be further advised that the public reading of the bible is a national event, and we have invited Governor Chris Christie, politicians, civic leaders, religious leaders, as well as the media. In fact, News12 New Jersey has put us on their schedule, and the Jersey Journal has confirmed yesterday that a report will be present. The keynote speaker at this occasion will be The Rev. Dr. Robert C. Wade, Presiding Elder of the Camden-Trenton District, and President of the New Jersey Council of Churches. He is also a candidate for Episcopal service. Moreover, the Word of God and its proclamation is the purpose of this holy gathering. We hope that your schedule will permit you to participate in this historic event, and ask that you please bring your bible with you. If you have any questions concerning this event, feel free to contact me at the church at (201) 332-6513, or via email at revjohnbwingate@aol.com

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.

Why pray? Jesus is a prime example of a life lived by prayer that offers relevance, purpose, answers, and most of all, a relationship with God the Father. Jesus prayed wholeheartedly for every move He made, asking God for guidance, leading, and direction. He prayed prayers of thanks, prayers for healing, prayers for His disciples, and prayers for believers -- present and future.

Prayer is essential to fellowship with God. Not just to have our prayers answered by God, nor just because the Scriptures tell us to, though that is reason enough. God is the Father of the entire human race, and God cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7) This means the child of God can pray, ask, and cast all his care upon God, his Father. Paul states in Romans 8:15, when we are His children, adopted into His family, we can begin calling him, "Father, dear Father."

Why Pray? James 5:16 provides another worthwhile answer. “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.” Why pray? God says it makes quite an impact!
