Our Response to God
Dr. Anthony A. Yarde

Just as it was in Bible times, standing in the presence of a Holy God is an awesome experience.
- To stand before Him is to stand before The One who created the entire universe
- Any encounter with God carries with it a serious accountability
- No one can be in God’s presence without a serious response

This response required is not a response to a concept, a law or a principle
- It is a response to a Person
- It is a response that brings us to a face-to-face encounter with God

Whenever God speaks, it is never for observation or discussion
- It is for obedience

Why do we want God to speak to us?
Are we prepared to obey Him when He does speak?

To hear God speak and then refuse to obey is a terrible offence to God.
- He has every right to be Lord of our lives – therefore He has the right to expect obedience.

Moses warned God’s people that the words of God “are not just idle words for you – they are your life” (Deut. 32: 47 NIV)

Jer. 41-42 recounts a tragic story from Israel’s history:

- Jerusalem had just fallen to the Babylonians.

- A remnant of people began a journey to Egypt to escape. On the way they decided to seek God’s counsel (Jer. 42:1-6)

- They took an oath to obey whatever God directed (Jer. 42:15-16)

- God knew that the hearts of the people were bent on going their own way.
o They went through the motions of seeking God’s directions, but they had already made up their minds to go to Egypt (Jer. 42:19-22)

- The people sought God’s directions, but they had no intention of changing their own plans.

What about us ? Why do we seek Him?
