Do you ever wish you could just "start over" at a certain point or time in your life and erase all the mistakes and heartaches that you've suffered through? In the Bible, God told Jeremiah of such a place where this was possible, a land of beginning again. God revealed to Jeremiah, through the example of a potter and his clay, how He works to shape and mold His children into beautiful vessels fit not just for earthly use, but also for eternal use.
God is the master workman. Every day God has His hand on your life and has a wonderful plan for your life. I do not care who you are, what your background may be, where you have come from, nor where you are going. God has a glorious, beautiful, wonderful plan for your life, for every life. Sometimes we get the idea that God only has a plan for those who are going into "full-time Christian Ministry" such as pastors or missionaries. This is however quite the contrary. Though God does have a plan for those who are called into full-time Christian Ministry, he also has a specific purpose for your life as well. We've all been called to be full-time Christians!
Just as God is the potter, man is the clay. The clay is nothing without the potter and man is nothing without God. The clay is only useful in the hands of the potter and man is only useful in the hands of God. Even though the clay may seem unimportant, unattractive and undesirable, in the hands of the potter the clay is like nuggets of Gold and clusters of diamonds. But without the wheel, the clay cannot be molded. The wheel represents the circumstances in our life. Have you ever felt like you were going in circles? In essence, you are. In the daily rounds of life, God has placed you on His wheel of providence. Listen, this is not a wheel of fortune, nor is a wheel of fate. But rather, it is a wheel of faithfulness; God's faithfulness to His purpose and plan for your life!
Ultimately, God is in control of every circumstance of your life. He wants to take all of your circumstances, whether they are good or whether they are bad, and use them to shape you into what he wants you to be. You see, we will not always understand why God allows certain things to happen to us. We will not always understand why the wheel of life takes a certain turn. But we must trust God and allow Him to turn the wheel the way He knows best. For written over that wheel is Romans 8:28, "God works all things out together for the good of those who love Him." Though our life may be marred with imperfections, our heavenly Father can mend our life and reshape it into what he wants it to be if we are only willing to first surrender it to Him. Thank God, no matter who you are, you can begin again.
