CONFLICT RESOLUTION ON BPN

As a ministry leader, I found myself in a situation where there was a stirring of mess in the congregation. Members were talking about leaders badly and leaders were doing the same about members. As head, wrote a Conflict Resolution Guideline and send it out to EVERYONE so that all would know how we would handle conflict in that particular body of Believers. Some leaders thought I was undermining their authority and not supporting them. Some members thought I wrote it so I would have a reason to kick them out of the ministry. My purpose was neither! I was handling conflict resolution God’s way!

The Conflict Resolution Guideline was based on the conflict resolution plan that we see in Matthew 18 and it had three levels of resolution. The core scripture was:

Matthew 18:14
Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven,
that one of these little ones should perish.

Conflict Resolution - Level I

WORK IT OUT BETWEEN YOU TWO

Matthew 18:15
Moreover if thy sister/brother shall trespass against thee,
go and tell her/him their fault between thee and them alone:
if she/he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy sister/brother.

In other words, don't come to me when you have a problem with a sister or brother... go to them FIRST.

Action: whoever has an offence with someone, they are to go to that person... one on one and try to work it out without involving any other member of the ministry or involving the leadership. (don't try to get an AMEN corner and see how many people you can rally on your side of the issue!!!)

Conflict Resolution - Level II

CONTACT A LEADER

Matthew 18:16
But if she/he will not hear thee,
then take with thee one or two more,
that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established

Action – once you have tried to communicate the offence to your sister/brother and the offence continues, then bring it to the leadership. The leadership are (I listed the names and contact info of all of the leaders in the ministry)

Conflict Resolution - Level III

IT TAKES A VILLAGE…

Matthew 18:17-18
17 And if she/he shall neglect to hear them,
tell it unto the church: but if she/he neglect to hear the church,
let her/him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

18 Truly I tell you, whatever you forbid and declare to be improper and unlawful
on earth must be what is already forbidden in heaven,
and whatever you permit and declare proper and lawful on earth must be
what is already permitted in heaven.

Action - If the person pays no attention to the leadership [refusing to listen and obey], then it will be brought before the congregation (or in this case BPN would have to determine who would be the “church” body at this level and how to present it to the body without adding fuel to the fire. It could be that the congregation would be the body of leaders instead of all 10,000 people).

And if they refuse to listen even to the congregation as we encourage in love that they change their behavior, then they will be asked to leave the group or the Head, Leader, Shepherd or whomever is Pastor, Founder or President of the ministry will remove them from the group with a majority vote from either the congregation (or ministry cabinet/leaders/board, etc).

Matthew 18:17-18

19 Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.
20 For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I AM in the midst of them.

The term bind and loose is used in another translation. Bind means to lawfully not allow. Loose means to lawfully allow. Online Ministries should have posting Rules in place so that every member knows what is not allowed on the message boards, blogs, and discussions, pictures etc.

When we come together in agreement on God’s word about a matter, making it the basis for our decisions, then God will be in the midst and support the decision because it is founded on His word.

In level III of conflict resolution, any person who is not willing to abide by the rules after being processed through levels I and II may then be asked to leave the group or the Founder or a Moderator will delete that person’s membership.

THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION
(Conflict Resolution: Doing it God’s Way)

2 Corinthians 5:17-19 (KJV)

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature:
old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new.

18And all things are of God,
who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ,
and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19To wit, that God was in Christ,
reconciling the world unto Himself,
not imputing their trespasses unto them;
and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Remember, God has given us (ALL Believers) the ministry of reconciliation and His word of reconciliation. Therefore, all of the levels of conflict resolution are designed to bring persons BACK into the community by giving them opportunities to change a behavior that is harming the community; not to remove them (even though removal from the group is a possibility).

You may not see that here because this site has 99% ministry leaders on it and one would expect them to act with maturity and not like kids in high school!!!!

This has been my two cents on the subject of Conflict Resolution on BPN.
