TEACHING OF APOSTLE ANTHONY YARDE

God’s Fasting Principles

Right & Wrong ways to Fast

Isaiah 58 gives us God’s principles concerning fasting. Verse 3 – 5 tells us the kind that God is not pleased with and then He went on to instruct us of the right way to fast.

When you take time to humble yourself, fast, wait on God, and intercede and even travail in prayer, you will have a greater anointing to set many free who are bound and have a heavy burden, even those who are oppressed.

The right method of fasting is so important that Jesus called attention to it at the beginning of His ministry Luke 4:1-13.

Matt 17:20-21 He showed how fasting could be used to exalt oneself. The Pharisees were known to do this just to be honoured but Jesus warned against this.

It is vain to fast to receive honour from man for exaltation comes neither from the east or west, nor the north or south. It comes from the Lord. To gain power your motive must be pure. The proper attitude to fasting is to be uninterested as to whether others know or not

There is an example of one who boasted of his fasting and looked down at the one who humbled himself before God in Luke 18: 11 – 14. The story continues to say that the one who humbled himself was the one more justified than the other.

Fasting and selfishness do not mix. Going back to Isaiah 58 we see that fasting in those days originated in selfishness. They sought only the benefits of it but fasting is absolutely of no benefit to those who are not walking in obedience to God. (Jer. 14:10-12)

David known to be a great man of God sinned against God. His sin was so great that even prayer and fasting could not repair the damage of his sin. He committed adultery with Bathsheba, and then arranged her husband’s death. She bore a child who became sick and in remorse he fasted and prayed but yet the child died.

Fasting church is the master key to the impossible but humility, repentance and sincerity of heart are the keys to the kind of fasting God recognizes and honours.
