Why Do C.O.G.I.C. leaders cover-up crimes and protect those who hurt people

Our C.O.G.I.C. leaders cover-up for those who do wrong and our bishop endorses homosexuality. What’s next? These people hurt me and all folks keep on saying is pray. At the same time nobody is doing anything.

I am leaving the C.O.G.I.C church. Everybody always talking about attacks on our church but they don’t seem to care about the attacks on us, the people. I see a lot of protection for the pastors but none for the people.

I can’t speak for other faiths but in the C.O.G.I.C. faith I see a lot of blame the victim cases. Is that of God?

I didnt watch this video, but I hear what you're saying loud and clear. The behavior you describe is not God.

Go with your conviction and any witness the holy spirit gives you. Whether you leave COGIC or not do your best to get some counseling.... and if your church hurt you I'd advise against going back to the wolfs den for counseling (been there done that). I dont know the level of your walk (babe, mature etc) but counseling doesnt have to be "christian" you can get that from your word, because Jesus (the word of God) is a Wonderful Counselor. If you do leave, during your healing process, in fact part of your healing process pray for those who hurt you, just give it over to God. But leave them alone. Stay in your word and in prayer, lift your hands to heaven in the privacy of your own home, worship God, and trust God and He will lead you to a place free from torment. God alone is Absolute Trustworthy.
Thank you sister, I do pray as well as cry before the Lord. It is all you can do because sometimes the very people you seek to talk too are the ones who will defend these people and make you feel bad for saying something about it. I know nobody wanna hear that the people that they serve under are doing something wrong but it happens. I know stuff happen in every church denomination but I know ours have a history of covering it up and sweeping it under the rug. I know that no matter what happens I can trust God.
There is that going on in all kinds of denominations.
Maybe the Lord exposing this kind of stuff so that something can be done. 1) for the leaders to be exposed for not doing anything 2) also so the congregants can make a move and get out of these wacky places 3) and so the one that committed the sin can be handed over to satan for the destruction of the flesh so that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Update - this guy was not in fellowship with COGIC higher ups for a while. COGIC Bishop LT Walker had no authority over him for a while. He pulled out when they were about to send an investigative group out there to see what was going on - he of course sited other reasons. From what I can tell he was sort of rogue - out there on his own.
The video I used gives you the typical response of other people in the church. They made the women out to be the bad guy and the pastor continued on for 25 years molesting boys. We ain't no different than crooked lawyers who cover up crimes for criminals.
I am reluctantly responding to this post, but I recently shared my story on how my former Pastor hurt a lot of People in our church including children. He was a Pastor in the C.O.G.I.C. in Michigan. I do agree with you Newview that these things go on in all Denominations. However, my wounds were inflicted by the leadership in the C.O.G.I.C. church.

Sister Stephanie, I understand your hurt. I was a teenager more than 19 years ago when our pastor's reign of terror came to an end. After years of abusing his wife, molesting his daughters and other young women in the church, and fathering many babies with some of the female members he was finally sent to prison. Many of the sisters at our church, including myself and my sister, went to our District Superintendent and had a meeting with him. He listened to everyone speak, but that is all that happened.

We also went to the Bishop of our Jurisdiction and they did nothing either. He continued to function in his full capacity on a National level with the C.O.G.I.C. church until he went to prison, where he later died. I had nightmares for years after this. Sadly, this is a common occurrence in many denominations. I think it is a problem in the minds of people. The church too often has excused these things so now those who speak out against it are demonized by leadership and church members. Lord help us.
Thank you for sharing your story it's just sad that this kind of stuff is happening it seem like more and more. I guess if the pastors feel like they can get away with it and the church leaders will still be on their side then why not.
Yeah I wish people would expose this kind of stuff but they don't want to. Most of the time they blame the victims for saying something. When this is all you know it is hard to see any other way. Why do church people think the pastor have a right to do people wrong but he can't be touched.
The C.O.G.I.C. church is not alone in these scandals. We can't really blame these types of behaviors on organizations per se, but the individuals that commit these heinous acts. The organizations only become accountable when they don't reprimand or deal with this type of behaviors. I believe if organizations would investigate and remove these people, they could be spared the scandalous connections to these crimes.
I know that cogic ain't alone in scandals but our leaders are becoming even more of an embarrassment by siding with those who support gays. I know we are not suppose to judge people and we are suppose to love everybody but how do that make God feel if we say we join in with them. Bishop Blake signed something on behalf of the cogic church saying he support them, that includes gay marriage.
What does it say about our church when someone has to set up a website called ReportCOGICabuse.com I think churches in general should be more careful about who they put in leadership. So many lives are ruined by church predators and someone has to be blamed and held accountable for this. Everybody always want to blame the Devil but these men are drawn away by their own lust when they attack women and children.
There is only one faith, and that is in Jesus Christ. When we start making one sect (denomination) our faith we will always become ship wrecked, hurt, and damaged. No matter where you go there will be some kind of pain or another, but wherever you go make sure it is God who sent you there.

It is past time that we put God in his right place in our lives, because Jesus is the head and you are the body, so follow Jesus in every word and deed, and inspite of any hurt you will still be able to stand against the wilds of the devil.
