The expression, being “slain in the Spirit” happens when a minister lays hands on someone, and that person collapses to the floor, supposedly overcome by the power of the Holy Spirit. Those who practice slaying in the Spirit use Bible passages that talk about people becoming “as dead” (Revelation 1:17) or of falling upon their face (Ezekiel 1:28; Daniel 8:17-18, 10:7-9). However, there are a number of contrasts between this biblical falling on one's face and the practice of being slain in the Spirit.

1. The biblical falling down was a person's reaction to what he saw in a vision or an event beyond ordinary happenings, such as at the transfiguration of Christ (Matthew 17:6). In the unbiblical practice of being slain in the Spirit, the person responds to another’s touch or to the motion of the speaker's arm.

2. The biblical instances were few and far between, and they occurred only rarely in the lives of a few people. In the slain in the Spirit phenomenon, falling down is a repeated event and an experience that happens to many.

3. In the biblical instances, the people fall upon their face in awe at either what or whom they see. In the slain in the Spirit counterfeit, they fall backwards, either in response to the wave of the speaker's arm or as a result of a church leader's touch (or push in some cases).

This is not to say that all examples of being slain in the Spirit are fakes or responses to a touch or push. Many people claim to experience energy or a force that causes them to fall back. However, there is no biblical basis for this concept. Yes, there may be some energy or force involved, but if so, it is very likely not of God and not the result of the working of the Holy Spirit.

It is unfortunate that people look to such bizarre counterfeits that produce no spiritual fruit, rather than pursuing the practical fruit, which the Spirit gives us for the purpose of glorifying Christ with our lives (Galatians 5:22-23). Being filled with the Spirit is not evidenced by such counterfeits, but by a life that overflows with the Word of God in such a way that it spills over in praise, thanksgiving, and obedience to God.

Scriptures showing this occurrence in the bible have been given before in other posts, no there is no biblical term as "slain in the Spirit" as there is none for the " Trinity" it was coined by Tertullion, as this one was coined by saints.

Instances of voluntarily falling before the Lord to worship or pray may be found in Genesis 17:3 and Joshua 5:14. References to voluntarily falling as the result of feeling overwhelmed by a divine presence are found in Numbers 22:31, Judges 13:20, Ezekiel 1:28, Ezekiel 3:23, Ezekiel 43:3, Ezekiel 44:4, Daniel 8:17 and Matthew 17:6.

However, these verses seem to imply falling forward in humility, and it would seem there are no verses to imply falling upon being touched by someone. But there is one passage in the Bible where people "fall to the ground" just by hearing the words "I am He". That is when Judas has betrayed Jesus and the soldiers come to get Jesus. This is what it says in John 18:4-6; (4) 'Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them "Whom are you seeking?" (5) They answered Him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them "I am He." And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them. (6) Now when He said to them "I am He," they drew back and fell to the ground.' (NKJV)

Instances of involuntarily falling before the Lord as the result of feeling overwhelmed by a divine presence are found in 1 Kings 8:10-11, Daniel 8:27, Daniel 10:8-11 (possibly implied), Acts 9:3-4 (also Acts 26:14) and Revelation 1:17.

Both voluntary and involuntary falling before the Lord can also occur as the result of a power encounter—a person feels that the power of God is overtaking the power of a demonic force that has sought to control or oppress him or her. References to falling in the context of power encounters are found in Mark 3:11, Mark 9:20 and Luke 8:28
I might add that you may not understand it, but unless you can absolutely, without a shadow of doubt can speak that The Holy Spirit's prescence CAN'T AND WON'T compel ones to do this, tread carefully, so as not to speak in ignorance against the Holy Spirit.

There are those that say it's wrong to dance, clap your hands, speak Amein aloud..... this list goes on
Sis,
Do you think she was over come by the Holy Spirit to jump on to the laps of those men and the spirit moved through the church that they too were over come by joy so that they rejoiced in the spirit at the couple of old dudes playfully showing that they were going to smack and tap on what the Spirit of God laid in their laps?

Are you saying that you can't judge that scene?
Niewview, to be quite honest, I didn't view all of it, (I see these things as tools of division)my teachings is that being "slain in the Spirit" is an out pour of humility, or a need of deliverance, I have seen ones rejoice over a stiffnecked individual being layed down under the power of the Spirit, for it is always the ones that say "no not me"

As one who just this passed Sunday ran completely around the church, out the door and back in, I don't stand in judgement over acts, the fruits will speak for themselves, (there was a bad spirit in our church, and I distinctly heard the voice of God say run it out, obey ME, run it out) and the church rejoiced.

Say what you might, I will obey God not man
"Niewview, to be quite honest, I didn't view all of it.."

Oh, I'm sorry - you would not be able to judge it one way or another because you have not seen it.

Ive seen it.
Why may I ask, out of curiousity? do ones search for those things that may appear derogatory to our Kingdom?
I agree with you. We are required to test the spirits and anyone truly seeking the Lord's heart would be able to discern what spirit this was and credit is not to the Lord. The Lord shed tears for how this woman was discraced by these actions and the crowd,... discraced itself. Their joy was nothing but mockery in the rejoicing of filthy actions. Their laughing...They have their reward in full. The Holy Spirit would have no part in this unrighteousness for GOD is RIGHTEOUS! This scene was of a demonic spirit. There is NOTHING FUNNY about it!

just agree to disagree on THIS ONE.
Just for sake of an example: in the beginning God created light. Is light a form of energy? or is it not?

On the road to damascus, how do you explain the white light that (1) emitted enough "energy" to blind Paul and (2) generated enough force to knock him to the ground... at the moment of his conversion on the road to damascus?

Sometimes it seems we (church & ministry leaders) are light years behind in discerning and understanding spiritual matters, and the practical application of the same in order to live transformed lives.
hi Chaplain,

I daresay this group has been over this ground and gone 'round this mountain more than once... there is at least one good discussion on it. Already. And, even tho the Holy Spirit authenticates veracity of this phenomenon scripturally and experientially, many who preach in his name do not. Then again, Jesus did not come to call the righteous to repentance.
