Should a pastor that spends most of his time preaching and teaching get paid for what God has him to do? I know what the scriptures says about this, but would you pastor for free?

Hey Trevor, how have things been? Listen can you expand on your statement:

Keep in mind, the "manna from Heaven" thing wasn't in effect, so the funding of their ministry came from somewhere and someone. GOD provided, but who did HE use to provide for it?

The manna in the wilderness was from heaven but physical in nature. When you say the "manna from Heaven" thing wasn't in effect what are you saying? Jesus is the Bread of Life, the true manna and we have to eat His flesh and drink His Blood to dwell in Him and He in us. The Manna blessing was and is in effect. Read John 6:30 - 64. Are you saying this in regards to being paid/funded to spread God's Word has something to do with Manna? The Jews tithed all the time to be stored in the Temple to help the poor and down and out. We know from scripture that Caiaphas the high priest and others were more about themselves during Jesus walk on this earth and loved to seen and sit on the highest seats and have their hands kissed in public and didn't like what Jesus was saying because peopel were being drawn from them to Jesus but manna in the desert was to sustain them from starving as the doves in the physical where Jesus is our spiritual bread from heaven and the only True Manna.
Yes I need some CLARITY as well...See I must be Ignorant as many think in that I still believe in a creator G-d who is constantly creating and re-creating in front of our eyes daily...Shema Israel!!

"For the people of Israel, miracles are the way of nature, for the people of Israel are above nature." Rebbe Nachman of Breslev
Rav Brody:Don't be upset with the nations of the world because they don't understand us; they're not capable of understanding us. My beloved teacher and spiritual guide Rabbi Shalom Arush says that if you haven't yet seen a miracle today, it's because you haven't said thank-you to Hashem today. So what are you waiting for?
I've been good, thanks. How have you been?

You actually missed the point of my statement. When I said that, I meant that we are always quick to say "I don't need to be paid, the LORD will provide" all while neglecting the question of "how will GOD provide?" It is foolish to say that, because it actually contradicts the very system that GOD installed for the provision of His ministers. I mentioned the "manna from Heaven" in regards to the actual bread, not JESUS. I used that because many have this weird idea that GOD will bypass His own provision system for Ministers and Ministry, and simply jump to the ever-exciting "signs, wonders and miracles".

Don't get it twisted, I am an Apostle & Prophet, and therefore by pure definition alone, I not only believe in the miraculous, experienced the miraculous first hand. Therefore, my faith should not be questioned here. We become so fixated on the miraculous, we do not even realize what the miraculous is for. The signs, wonders, and miracles of GOD are for:

1) the unbelieving that they may finally believe

and/or

2) the believer when an emergency comes up and there is no other way

Saints, do not get hooked on miracles from Heaven. "Manna-like provision" is considered "Heaven's spiritual welfare system". The moment Joshua brought Israel into the promise land, the miracle of manna from Heaven ceased. Likewise, once a Ministry is in a place where they are able to stand up and provide for itself, the miracles way less often, and in some cases stop.

Ministers, the tithe IS your provision from GOD! JESUS spoke in Matthew 10 saying that the laborer is worthy of his hire. Therefore, this IS a job, and you ARE on assignment, and you WILL be compensated because you ARE doing WORK. Any other way of putting it is either 1) pure semantics, or 2) pure ignorance.
I've been great thanks. Thanks for expanding on this for me. On my way out the door but I'll be back. LOL!
The manna from heaven hs absolutely nothing to do with money...the mana from heaven is Christ..

Mrs Gatson writes:"Jesus sent the disciples out by two’s and told them to take nothing with them, and their needs will be met."
Two issues here The deciples were sent out two X two ...Why? because of the healing and deliverence...One was the gifted Caller" and the other was the gifted Seer"

Take Nothing with them..? Why Because all of Israel is responsible for one another Not like our culture...even today.
"Kol Yisrael arevim zeh bazeh." ="All YIsrael is responsible for one another." (Talmud Shavuot 39a)
IT IS NOT TO GET HIM PAID KNOW ONE CAN PAY FOR IT ONLY GOD BUT I KNOW GOD CAN MOVE YOU TO SUPPORT HIS WORK FROM WHAT HE HAVE GIVING TO YOU
YOUR SEED IS NEEDED TO THAT MAN OF GOD'S LIFE AS YOU KNOW HE PAY FOR HIS TRAVAILING HOTEL BILLS AND SO ON THAT IS WHERE U NEED TO HELP HIM TOO ALSO KNOW THAT HE HAVE SOME BILLS TOO YOUR HELP CAN MOVE HIM TO HELP OTHER FROM WHAT YOU GIVE WHEN GOD TALK ABOUT YOUR TITHES AND OFFIRINGS
SO THINK GOOD FOR OTHERS
THANK YOU
Thats like saying you're repaying him for his services according to what the LORD requires. Its the same thing!
PLEASE I MEAN THAT GOD SERVANT ARE TO DO THE WORK NOT ASKING FOR PAYMENT BUT IF THAT COS A GIFT IS GIVING GOOD
THANK YOU
A true pastor is that one chosen my God Himself. to be honest I will do the pastorship for free because I know the kind of God I am serving as long as I get something to eat at the end of the day. I cant stand infront of the congregation while am that week.
Pastor Benita L Gatson,

May the Lord richly reward you for your efforts and more importantly for your heart. I agree 200% with you that Ministry is a privilege and whether we are rewarded for it financially or not should have no bearing upon our willingness to serve or effectiveness in Ministry.

I wish this view were more commonly shared among the Pastorate. I have nothing against a Pastor being properly and well compensated for his services, and if the Church is large that should not be a problem and should in fact be in order since there are more people to Minister to and there may be more demands made upon his time. My problem with it is when the Church is small, when they only have 10-50 members and some of us demand that this handful of people support not only their living expenses but also go above and beyond that call to support the actual financial upkeep of the Church. Such Churches often never break even, and while they may be faithful in serving and supporting the financial needs of the Pastor and his family, they can do very little else apart from keep the bare minimum in terms of operating the Church facility, and missions, and charitable giving to other churches, or individuals in their own congregations who may need help are often a no-no.

You don't often get a chance to voice your opinion on these matters because many of us hold to "touch not mine anointed" and use it as a scare tactic to stop people from pointing fingers or asking questions, yet even Paul worked from time to time to support himself and the needs of the many Churches that he had founded. You have my utmost respect, too many of us are basically lazy, too many of us entered Ministry with the wrong heart and with the wrong motives, we take the Ministry as an easy "out"- some of us never could make it in Corporate America and we look to the Ministry to support us in the manner in which we believe we should deserve. Many of us are eloquent, yet unteachable and because we have a problem with submitting to someone else's leadership and authority....(ie by being an unpaid Associate or Assistant Minister, laboring in someone elses vineyard for the cause of Christ). We hurriedly appoint ourselves to become Senior Pastors, set ourselves up in Churches and then make demands upon the people of God to support us many of whom are in the paycheck to paycheck dilemma themselves.

God is not broke and wherever God guides He provides. I have been to too many services where basically the whole sermon was centred upon people "blessing the man of God"- it sickens me and I believe it also sickens the heart of God, but it's not easy to speak out about it because it's so prevalent in our faith community that you come across as a madman anytime you question it.

Continue to serve the Lord in your secular occupation, while serving Him and His people in your Ministry and in your Church. God is faithful, He will not forget your labor of love toward His people and in due season He will reward you if you faint not. At least on a Sunday morning you can look into the eyes of your people, some of whom may be going through the most extreme of financial hardships, and look them square in the eye- there's a lot to be said for that because even unbelievers can tell those who are "for real".

Some of us have become arrogant, proud and puffed up, we're too anointed to get our hands dirty, get out of bed early and ride a bus or train and go to work. I know too many such individuals myself, sitting at home all day while their wives go out to work to support them while they look to the Church to make up the difference. Some of these Churches will never grow, or be spiritually blessed because the whole thing is out of order.

Again, I stress that I am not against a Pastor being paid, if the Church is financially able to do so and the numbers support it- I don't want anyone to misunderstand me. My problem is with the many, who only have 5-20 members or less, and have the attitude that their members and Church MUST support them.

Continue as you are, don't let anyone tell you that you don't have enough faith, or that you're living beneath your priveleges. To God and to thine own self be true. I honor you, may God bless you.
I do it every Sunday, yet not so free when I consider that Jesus blood has paid it all. Not trying to sound sacri-religious are anything but I have come full circle. Yes the Pastor should be paid if the church can do it but I choose to not be paid right now while we are in a re-building stage. I am a bi-vocational pastor (I have a fulltime job outside of pastoring)
