I now understand more and more about this so-call world of "Hip-Hop". I understand now why "Hip-Hop"has really no place in our churches and yet it's slowly creeping in our church doors. After hearing all of this, I will stand behind fellow clergy members by NOT allowing "Hip-Hop" into our churches.

Pastors,Ministers and Church Leaders, would you allow "Hip-Hop" in your churches? Is this a way in keeping our youth in church? I am interested in all feedback concerning this issue.

Please do not be of the opinion that I am strictly against hip hop music in the church. Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary and the like have also introduced R&B into of their songs. I feel the same about this, as I do the introduction hip hop music in the church. Anything borrowed from the world would be the gauge I would use, I am sorry if I seem closed-minded to you and others but this is how I feel.
How so Rev.Miller?
I am not sure if you are married, if so what type of music did/do you listen to with your wife, or will you, to set the atmosphere for a romantic mood?
My dear brother I thank you for the complements I find you to be very well versed in the subject matter, however no one here, not I not Brother Day or anyone else has said that music replaces preaching, in fact the two go hand in hand. Have you not read how when the king of Israel consorted with the King of Judah for war, that the king of Judah asked if there was word from the Lord, how that the prophet came, and asked for a musician to play, and that after the musician played how the word of the Lord was revealed. Once again I have shown how that there is no worldliness in Holy Hip Hop. I have given you examples of lyrics, I have even given you biblical examples you seem bent on either ignoring them or not listening. That's fine. I have no issue with that. Where I am concerned though is this demonizing of something that God has apparently used to touch lives. That my brother is wrong. To do so is to throw artist like Walter Hawkins, who told us that not only is Jesus Christ the way, but that we should Try Christ. We would have to say goodbye to Richard Smallwood who tells us not only does he Love the Lord, but that his prayer is that God would send His Love Divine upon us. He sets Psalm 8 to music that even David himself, the original author might have been just a touch envious of. Dwayne Woods would have to go after telling us to Let Go, Jonathan Nelson would not be able to tell us that My Name is Victory. All joking aside my brother I know that you cannot possibly be so blind as to deny the work of the artist that I have mentioned and I am sure that there are some that come to your mind as you read this. By thier music souls are encouraged, souls are prepared to recieve the gospel, and yes in some cases souls are won, you see brother sometimes, music can go where the physical preacher cannot go, and preaches in a way that he or she may not have even considered. Just as sometimes the preacher can go where music cannot, but for the most part they do often go together.
Bro. Hunter,

This is a very interesting idea that you are introducing...Lets get out of Churchdom and step into the Kingdom...How do you separate the physical Church - ordained by God from the Kingdom of the same God? David said 'I was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of God! The Prophet Malachi said that God said to bring all the tithes into the strore house that there be meat in my house! Jesus taught in the synagoues! he threw the money changers and the criminals out! but the kept the people and the house! we are instructed to gather in his holy temple and praise the Lord in his Holy Sanctuary! where do you come from "doing away with the House of God? I don't know what church you Pastor - but I want people to come into the Church! what Pastor WANTS and empty Church?

Funny you don't tell the nightclub owner to lets go have street parties and shut down the clubs! you don't tell the people to lets just eat and sleep on the streets...we don't need house? why would you suggest that we get out of the Church? He said go into the highways and byways and compel the people to come into my house! I want to get the folks off the streets, out of the bars, out of the clubs into the house of God!

Shalom Aleichem, Heshem Yeshua Adoni Eloahim!

(Peace be unto you in the name of Jesus Lord God of all creation!)

Pastor Hodge

The separation comes from those who like the pharisees and sadducees created an religious order that separated itself from the continuous flow of a RELATIONSHIP with God. Churchdom is term of the modern day religious order ran by modern day pharisees and sadducees who will only subscribe to their grandfathers way of living as a Christian. Kingdom has no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus Rom. 8:1.

Denominational view has provided more confusion & division than salvation to the lost. What Pastors should want in first priority is that the lost sheep are found & led to Christ. But church in it's American Capitalistic state...just as when Jesus walked the earth, have become big business. This is not to say don't have a full church...but how many members did Jesus have in His Church building?

When did you see Jesus invited people to a building...Jesus was the building. He walked the streets & the clubs & compelled the people with love. Dang that was a hip hop rhyme...let me write that in my next song. See...ministry! Totally not planned
Music changes over the centuries and across national borders but is there a line that should not be crossed - when it comes to the kinds of worshipping we do with music?

Isnt some music - even if you drop a few "Praise Jesus" in the lyrics - just plain ol hateful or sensous?

Are there no boundaries?
The sister spoke of David removing his clothes when he danced before the Lord - is this where we are going? ----> That we are to do whatever we do, just as long as we say its to worship the Lord...

Are there any lines that we are not to cross?
Newview this argument can honestly be summed up like this, It’s not a matter of can we or can't we, it’s a matter of Why would we? Is it not the motives and intent that are most important? When God sent Moses, Moses from the onset did not want to go, but he went, it wasn't so much his obedience as much as it was his willingness to go. Jesus in the garden had a real human moment, He honestly did not want to die, did not want to suffer the separation between Him and the Father that was coming, but He went anyway, His willingness to be obedient to His purpose. Why is it that if I choose to worship God using a different beat than the generation before me used, that I am labeled a heretic, and hell bound? Most gospel songs do not mention Jesus, and yet they are accepted, why is that? I can sing a song with a hip hop beat, that mentions Jesus, and brings forward the gospel, and plan of salvation, and according to you, and Pastor Hodge, and Rev Miller the song is satanic and worldly in fashion. Your argument is counter to what the Bible says. How can Salvation be worldly? Since when is the presentation of the gospel demonic? Especially when the majority of the same COGIC churches of which Pastor Hodge is a pastor, use the music to draw people. Were this not the case then tell me why is it that in many cases when they publicize a meeting, the psalmist is often put forward as much as, if not more so than the preacher? I do believe in balance. But if COGIC recognize this as a tool to be used to reach those outside the church, perhaps instead of railing, do some investigating on your own. Most of the arguments I have seen are regurgitations on a theme that was presented by G. Craige Lewis whose inept rantings have been disproven more than once, he has been caught in a lie, which disqualifies him from commenting on the issue because if the lie is as blatant has been reported, how can anyone trust anything that that man says?
"...Most gospel songs do not mention Jesus, and yet they are accepted, why is that?..."

I find that problematic.

Surely you read what I just posted which was:
Music changes over the centuries and across national borders...

"...Since when is the presentation of the gospel demonic?..."

I guess when its not pure gospel.

But more importantly Anthony - please answer the original questions:

If you liked the song ”Never Would have Made It”, how is that problematic? If the song “I am Healed” just takes you there, it does so without mentioning the Savior in the lyrics. And who can forget “Total Praise, but who is Richard praising as he never mentions the object of his praise….

See previous answer that answer renders this statement moot.

Depends on your definition of boundaries.

*The sister spoke of David removing his clothes when he danced before the Lord - is this where we are going? ----> That we are to do whatever we do, just as long as we say its to worship the Lord...
We should all hope to be as free as David was. He did literally what we should be able to do figuratively. Culturally speaking dancing in the nude, was nothing new to the ancients or their societies. Michal’s issue was not that he danced naked before the Lord, but rather that he appeared undignified as the king.. Our status should not matter in terms of our worship. Culturally it fit in with David’s culture, it does not literally fit in to ours however figuratively we want to put the brakes on, because of how it looks or how it is perceived.

*Are there any lines that we are not to cross?
Yes legal, no one should go to jail over something stupid.

I see what you are saying - but thats not what I meant.

" *Are there no boundaries?

I mean what are the boundaries for the Body of Christ in their worship music to the Lord. Anything goes as long as it says something positive about God?

You said:
"Yes legal, no one should go to jail over something stupid."

You mean 'legal' as in man's FCC laws - but there are no boundaries when it comes to the church - just keep to the laws of the land?
