“WHAT THE CHURCHES SAY ABOUT SABBATH”

Dear beloved friends some church leaders have told the truth about the 4th Commandment. Yet, today, few have ears to hear about the Sabbath. The following are some things that various church leaders have said. I do hope that you find them interesting and helpful.

American Congregationalists: No authority exists in the New Testament for substitution of the first day for the seventh "The current notion that Christ and His apostles authoritatively substituted the first day for the seventh, is absolutely without any authority in the New Testament." Dr. Lyman Abbott, in the Christian Union, June 26, 1890

Anglican: Nowhere commanded to keep the first day "And where are we told in the Scriptures that we are to keep the first day at all? We are commanded to keep the seventh; but we are nowhere commanded to keep the first day. The reason why we keep the first of the week holy instead of the seventh is for the same reason that we observe many other things, - not because the Bible, but because the church, has enjoined [commanded] it." I don't think this topic has been done here before, if so please show me. I know this is a good topic because it shows where the big denomination understand what day the sabbath day is.

as far as shoving the sabbath down people throat, this is not the attention of this lesson.

the attention of this lesson is to show those here that the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox
denominations know the sabbath day is the 7th day of the week and it has not been changed by God.

There are new members every day to this site who are not aware of previous discussions.

Bro. Adams, here is the latest thread on this topic.

What is the primary purpose of the Sabbath? DO YOU KEEP IT HOLY? DO YOU WORSHIP ON THIS DAY? WHY OR WHY NOT?

This topic has been discussed many times (it has come up on other threads with different headings, much like the debates on the OT Laws).

The Sabbath points to a time in the future, that being the day of rest in Gods eyes because a day to the Lord is like a 1000 years to us. God gave man 6 days (6000 years) to work as He did and on the seventh day we will rest just as we do every weekly Sabbath. People just don't see the big picture this day of future rest will happen when Jesus makes His second coming and takes the world by force. Satan will be bound for a 1000years in the pit. Those that have died in Lord will be raised from the dead and the righteous living will be changed and they will rule with Christ for a 1000years.

notice what the topic says and the opening paragraph

it says nothing concernng how we worship, do we worship, or why we worship.

the author of this topic gave us HISTORICAL facts that the so-called christians churches KNOW that sabbath day is the 7th day of the week.

Now if the people here want to take it to how, why, do, where we worship so be it.

new people are here as was stated, which brings new questions, and comments

lets continue this conversation so we all can be edified,

why have these churches not been honest with there congregation and the world concerning the correct day of worship?

Bro. Ozell:

why have these churches not been honest with there congregation and the world concerning the correct day of worship?

Since I do not pastor a church, I cannot speak for "these churches."

However, whether or not I (we) worship on Saturday or Sunday, it is not the pathway to heaven. This falls under the scripture that tells us to work out our own salvation (be careful how you read this statement; I am not saying we work for our salvation).

Shalom in Yeshua
are u telling me that its okey to steal, kill and commit adultry because when u say that the sabbath commandment is no longer valid u are saying that the other 9 are are not valid. and no u can not work your way into the kingdom but u must be obedient.
Lets clear that up. We are no longer under the Old Covenant at all. That literally includes the 10 commandments.

HOWEVER, in the New Covenant, non of those things are legal either, for JESUS gave "a new commandment":

"Love one another as I have loved you".

Therefore, if you love one another like JESUS loved others, you won't do these things:

-lie
-cheat
-steal
-murder
-commit adultry
-commit fornication
-worship idols

These are literally wrapped in the one commandment that JESUS spoke. Do you really need to be told not to do those things if you are told to only do what JESUS did? NO, THATS FOOLISH!
@ Trevor

Old Covenant:
The Laws of God on 2 tables of stone by the Blood of animal sacrifice.

New Covenant
: The Laws of God in your Heart and in your Mind by the Blood of Jesus Christ...

LAW:Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

TESTIMONY: 2Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

LAW: Exodus 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

TESTIMONY: 1John 5:1-3 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

TESTIMONY: 1John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

TESTIMONY: 1John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

LAW:Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

TESTIMONY: John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

LAW:Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

TESTIMONY: John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Now that you have read all of those scriptures, you can understand why I say what I say

Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

NOW YOU MEAN TO TELL ME ALL THESE SCRIPTURES THAT SAY KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS MEAN NOTHING TREVOR?
Harris

These churches want to take your salvation away. Let read Romans

Rom 1v18: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19: Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20: For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22: Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
