New Pastors: Advice for the New Pastors: The what "to do's" and not "to do's" on Day One

I remeber my first comments on the BPN was under Min. Lockett discussion regarding "My First Sermon." At that time I was like him "An associate minister, faithful, patience, prayerful, hard working, and preparing for the day when God's will would allow me to pastor a church. You hear the discussion all the time, "When I am a Pastor, I will do this and that. We dont covete the position but we see ourselves preparing for the opportunity. Well, my season is here. After prayer/fasting/listening I recently accepted the Letter from a church to Psator. Words can't describe how I have been feeling. I'm careful to request to stay in God's mercy, remain humble, listen twice before speaking once, trying not to fix things that are not broken, (that is another discussion) learning names, praying frequently, and teaching/preaching. Every Pastor who I know has called, emailed, & texted congrats but I'm looking for advice from some of the experience members of BPN to begin a discussion of advice to new Pastors. I would rather learn from others mistakes than make them. School can prepare you but on day one, life experinces re-train you. by the way, all those ideas you had racing through your mind before you became a Pastor seem to exit on day one. I would like to hear your advice to New Pastors. I have always been one to recieve advice and learn from it.

I am a Hebrew Israelite and from my Spiritual point of view, no one which is called by the MOST HIGH to preach HIS Words needs to practice, go to school nor receive any information on how to preach. But those not of HIS calling will need those attributes because they are not Spiritually truthful with the MOST HIGH, only trying to impress mankind.

I partially agree Prince, God does not call the equipped, but He equips the call, however in all your getting get understanding. Paul encourages us to holdfast to our "profession" therefore train, practice, school is highly encouraged, yet not required. I have noticed in my many years of ministry that oftentimes (NOT ALL) those who do not have training beyond high school tend to be more dogmatic and unable to research the debt of the scripture.If you read Jesus' sermon in Matt 5,6,7 there was much more eliquence and no dogma
I am a new Pastor (This January marks the end of my second year) I can tell you seven things that I learned early on: Do not judge your calling on the number people in the pews or the number of people that leave the Church! There will come a time when men will not endure sound doctrine" however we are required by God to continue in the faith and teach "Sound Doctrine" 2. Don't let the number of people in the pews dictate the quality of your preaching! Allow God to work, you give your best that God gives you every time! no matter if its five people or five thousand people you preach the same! 3. When the people reject the Word of God they are not rejected you! don't take it personal; no body wants to be told what to do and no body wants to follow; but all of us need to be told what to do and all of us are following somebody (whether we admit it or not) or even realize it or not...we're are either following God or the Devil we are either obeying God or the Devil the bottom line is somebody is telling us what to do! 4. Trust God! have Faith in God! many will come and promise, but God will deliver! many will come and GO! but God will never leave you! 5.There are people who make a living off of using the Church; they will join your church and take all that you can give and when you get to the place where you have to tell them no or not yet, they get angry and leave! call you all kind of names and forget all that you have done from them in the past; you'll be tempted to question your calling; DON'T! you have just experienced normal human nature. Since they did not call you they cannot reward you! God called you and its God that will reward you! and believe me he will reward you! 6. Be faithful! Honor your commitment to God! let nothing get in the way of the minisrty that God gave you! this is your first Job! do it well! do it with joy! do it spirit of gratitude! God has called you to be his mouth piece! 7 Be yourself! Many times as we try to emulate some one else only to find out eventually the real you will come out and the people are going to get to know you; might as well do it now! what worked for the other preacher may not work for you! your obligation is to emulate Christ and since you've been changed to this new creature: you are just the person that God wants over that house. 8. You are the Pastor! God called you, God hired you, God charged you, God holds you and you alone to answer for the outcome of each and every soul...I had a Preacher who joined my Church (he's 10 years older than me) I watched as he slowly began to demonstrate areas of improvement, I was working another job (thinking that I could help raise money for the Church) one day my job had me work on a Service night so I called my preacher and asked if he would replace me for the night gave him the lesson scripture and he did the best that he could do...it was a total desaster! one of the dumbest things that I ever did as Pastor and I did not even make the money that I was working for that night - God spoke to me said "listen, if I wanted some one else to be over this flock; I would have sent them! I called you! I sent you! I prepared you! this is my church and you work for me! from that moment on I realized; I have no greater purpose that to serve God and keep his commandments! he commanded me to Pastor this flock whether big or small; faithfully executing the office of the Pastor is where he will find me. I hope this helps my brother; be strong in the Lord and in the Power of his might!
yes we love basic counsel God bless you
Shalom, Shalom;

My name is Prince Yosef II, and I am the Hebrew Israelite who has the web-site, www.theworldwithoutend.com.

First giving Praise to the MOST HIGH for HIS Mercy endure forever.

Sometime when we say or make the statement that we will humble ourselves to hear and see, we don't or can't, because we are caught up within a system that is very deceivable. In other words, we have a pride of wanted to be heard or seen, period, and that is not from the MOST HIGH. In fact, pride is one of the main principle of Satan according to the book of Isa. 14:12-14.

So what I'm saying is this, the MOST HIGH has an order which was set up from the beginning of HIS Creation, and a Nation which HE has set before the Gentiles which sall not change, in fact, it is a Covenant that HE made to HIMSELF and to the Heavens.

Just because we sometimes believe that we have a tongue to speak well concerning the Scripture, we should examine the Scriptures first to see if we are qualified, by the will of the MOST HIGH, instead the will of mankind.

Shalom,
Prince Yosef II
Praise God Pastor!
I am not a preacher, just a servant of the Lord in my own regard.
My humble suggestion to you would be to PRACTICE whatever you preach in God's word
In these last and evil days, folks are interested in SEEING the manifestation of God's word in our lives.
Talking is one thing... WALKING is a whole other story.
If people see the glory on your life by demonstration they will be drawn to it's source.
I thank God for your spirit to want to be right in HIS sight!
I have only been pastoring for a few months now, but I find it best to follow our teacher; the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, neither will lead you wrong and to stay in relationship with the Pastor's Pastor Be blessed
To any pastor whether sent or "went" into the ministry. 4 rules you must learn to live by. Two of them are automatic 1. Study- You never want to say anything that is not in the word or in the word but used out of context. Also most of us do not start ministries with hundreds of people neither will every pastor have a mega church. Because you will be touchable and reachable someone may try to prove you wrong or call you out. 2. Pray always. My pastor always told me God can't use a lazy preacher. If your not willing to pray and be in the Word it wont take much for the enemy to frustrate your purpose. Prayer is key to your ministry. 3. Do Not. Do Not involve yourself with members of the same or oppposite sex.(I know but it's 2010) What is the number one reason why preachers fall? Nuff said. 4. Second most reason Pastors find themselves in trouble....leave the money in bank. One of the first officers you elect should not be someone to carry your briefcase or fetch your orange juice. Before you get a armour bearer in some cases get someone or a crew to handle money. Though ultimately you are responsbile do not count the money nor take it to the bank. I realize when you first get started you may not have that person just yet or you may have a good size group but no one you trust with the church money. Ok another free-bee. A pastor need not call their members and lay their problems on them. You are the spiritual leader. You will find that your issues must remain private because you are the pastor. Find you a fellow pastor that you can confide in, be real with, someone you can expose your nakedness and let your hair down with being judged. These days everyone want the title Bishop but don't know how to Bishop. A Bishop is a pastor's pastor. This is why all pastors should have a covering.
God Bless you Pastor...I am not a Pastor myself but i can imagine the boatload of excitement, anticipation, and all of the other emotions that comes with accepting Gods assignment. All I can say is with everything else in ministry, dont overthink the simple things, observe, observe and when you're done observing, observe some more. I have learned that you gain more insight about people and their motives and motivations by simply giving them their 5 minutes of "fame". People can only front for so long, and those people always have the knack for showing their true colors...Last, never preach opinion, the Word of God has enough to stand on its own. Everyone has an opinion about something, and no one opinion is more right than the other. You will always have to argue opinion, you will never have to argue Gods word. Once again, God bless and "Never grow weary in well doing"

Shalom;

I have a few words about teaching the Words of the MOST HIGH.

When I was about 10 yeaers of age, people including my close realative would call me "The Little Preacher Man" which I didn't like, or somebody special, which I was always trying to fit into the crowd, but in short, I didn't wanted to be a preacher nor anybody that would be recognized, but I loved talking about the MOST HIGH and the Scriptures.
And to make this short about me, just visit my web-site, "www.theworldwithoutend.com" and go into the page "About The Author". There I did mention a little about me in my early years.

To get to the point about the reason why I am responding to this topic, "Advice for the New Pastors" and that is this, and I'm going below the belt.

The MOST HIGH didn't intend for any of HIS Messenger to be a Gentile or a Gentile to teach HIS Words, period! I know it will hurt many who believe that they have the gift of speaking or teaching HIS Words and it may be so to them, but it's not so accourding to the Righteousness of the MOST HIGH.

I had just visited an event of the NAACP, and the head speaker had all sort of degrees, a very will known person. It was said of hm that he taught many upcomming new pastors back in his years and perhap even today. He went on to tell about the time before he became a pastor. There was a lady, he said, that he ask her how to become a good pastor. Her reply to him, "Get an education and say a little good for Jesus." I thought once again, no wonder we are lacking the knowledge about the MOST HIGH.

Is there something wrong with this picture? Think about the Spiritual traveling of Paul, who also was a Hebrew Israelite. He was educated before his Spirit knowledge about the MOST HIGH.

Shalom,
Prince Yosef II
As a child of Pastors my advice would be to prepare your children for your Pastoral Ministry. Speaking from experience I believe that most Pastors don't or don't adequately prepare their families for the change that is about to take place in their lives. My parents could not prepare me for everything that was going to come my way, but the word of God that they had instilled in me before they were Pastors helped me to transition into a PK.
Our children go from being just a church member to an example to the young people, the church members, a representative or extension of their Fathers/Mothers in the five fold ministry. Do we really teach them how to handle that kind of pressure? I was not the cliche that Pastor's kids are the worse kids, I understood how important representing God was to me, my parents, my church family, because I had been prepared for the next level of ministry in my parents life.
I also believe that balance is important. Pastors sometimes do not have a balance between church family and their own family although one should mirror the other; then the whole church should come to your son's basketball game and your daughters recital. But if they decide not to then dad is going to show up and support his children as Dad, not Pastor. I am just speaking from experience my parents did an excellent job preparing me for the Body of Christ.
Jesus first day on the job of miistry... Just had gone through the wilderness temptation of 40 days battling with the world system, flesh and devil. Came out of the wilderness in the "Power of the Spirit" Luke 4:14. Then immediately went into the synagoge on the Sabbath and read Isa. "The Spirit of the Lord is now upon me... " great section. The Jewish priests and people at first loved him and were amazed at the authority with which he spoke, then when He spoke truth they turned against him and took him to a cliff to throw him over. He supernaturally escaped from their midst. THE POINT.... do I really want to minister like Jesus? Not everyone might like what you say but let truth ring. Eventually good people gathered around Jesus and especially 12 good men! They later became empowered with the Holy Spirit in an upper room and took the message to the known world. But they too faced persecution, murder plots, imprisonment, stoning, even death from the religious leaders of the day. I hope your first day on the job goes better than Jesus experienced.
