Should a pastor that spends most of his time preaching and teaching get paid for what God has him to do? I know what the scriptures says about this, but would you pastor for free?

You said that you understood what the scripture says about it, I am interested as to what verses are you referring. The Bible takes different positions depending what office is being served. In the Old Testament the Levitical Priest were compensated for their responsibilities as mediators between the people and God, hence tithing. The scripture also states a laborer is worth his wages. The scripture also makes references about wages of a Prophet. Now Jesus sent out His apostles, which means "the sent ones" and demanded that they DON'T accept any compensation, the question would be WHY? If you are in seminary you would then hear from your professor, review the CONTEXT of the scripture. There was a very specific reason WHY he charged them to do that. Paul also refused compensation from any church that he oversaw with exception to one. Paul was a tent maker and utilized that trade as to NOT BE A BURDEN on the early churches. Paul was not a local pastor, so to speak, he would fit the bill of a bishop by today's standards, he oversaw MANY of the early churches.
To answer your question, I would say if they are serving in the form of a Levite for that house ABSOLUTELY.

Proverbs 18:16 (King James Version)

16A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

I can speak from experience; my mother who is also my pastor has been pastoring a church for 2 years and has not received one red penny from the church. Our personal house has gone lack due to the Up building of the Kingdom of God. I applaud ALL TRUE SERVANTS, PASTORS, BISHOPS, APOSTLES ETC SUCH AS MY MOTHER. WHO DO THE WORK OF THE LORD AND LOOK FOR NOTHIN IN RETURN.

The church has become a business now. If Pastors do not get a certain agreeable amount of money they will not go and preach.

DID GOD SAY TO HIMSELF IF WE DIDN'T PRAISE OR WORSHIP HIM AT A CERTIAN RATE OR TIME THAT HE WOULD NOT BLESS US... CERTAINLY NOT... HE DOES IT INSPITE OF... SO IT GRIEVES ME WHEN PASTORS GET AN ATTITUDE WHEN THEY DNT GET A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MONEY... HOW DARE YOU CHARGE GOD??????? FOR PREACHING HIS GOSPEL...

AGAIN I APPLAUD ALL TRUE SERVANTS, PASTORS, BISHOPS, APOSTLES, ELDERS, MINISTERS, MISSIONARIES AND SO FORTH... FOR YOUR REWARD WITH BE FAR GREATER THAN MONEY CAN SPEND... IT WILL BE ETERNAL LIFE...

I agree with this WHOLE HEARTEDLY.... I invite people to preach all the time, not only at conferences and I extend an honorarium as I believe I should. I also get invited to speak all the time and I don't require an amount to deliver the Word of God. The Word does not belong to me, it belongs to God!
With that being said...
I believe that a MATURE people of God would extend an honorarium to offset expenses incurred to go out and speak, it is just proper, in my opinion. If I feel that God is leading me to invite you from Florida to speak at a youth conference. I am not going to expect you to pay for any travel and lodging, when I invited you! You are a guest of the house and as gracious as God is with those He invites into His presence, why would I not replicate His hospitality. This is just GOOD MANNERS.
I believe many times, because it is the CHURCH, we feel we can treat people any kind of way and PIMP their calling when it serves our purpose and then treat people at work and our communities and fraternities with MORE RESPECT and Manners than we do the people that serve the kingdom of God.
I don't demand a specific amount nor do I suggest it... I believe it makes a statement about where there heart is an honorarium is not extended AT ALL...

Proverbs says, "Where a Man's heart is, his treasure is there ALSO!"
Darrick Fitzoeald, i agree with you.

Talmidim Garrett writes:"We are to remember, "freely ye received , freely give." And, yes, Yahweh provides as we keep our covenant with Him, His statutes, laws, judgments and commandments."

~Yes it is all about the MARRIAGE' at Mt Horeb ~And there is NO Divorce~where we were freely given the Torah of Ha'Shem that was created before the world was framed, Moshie respectably with great INTIMACY' who embodied the Essence of the Torah more than any fleshly man.

A true reason as to why we the chiildren of the Master/ABBA strive to become a 'Living Torah' as was Moshie and all the Great fathers who themselves walked the pious benevolent walk outlined in the Torah the Talmud and all the writings of the great men through the 3,300 years of gratitude of those privileged to be truly chosen...

Simply we are to gather the wisdom of the great Sages who  passed down from generation to generation, the Ethics to all of humanity.

No one can argue that the Torah is not required.  Just look at how the Roman Popes sold us all into slavery in the 1300's and in the 1400's they finalized the job. using the Birth-certificates...as collateral [kind of like cattle"]

Seriously,Rome does not believe there own Dogma as some of you might have studied out:

If not this will help: http://www.simpletoremember.com/articles/a/jewsandjesus/

The Marriage is what it is all about...No replacement theology needed: ...

Obey the Torah for each word is a refreshing morsel of divine wisdom giving immense satisfaction..may HaShem continue your personal journey up to the ShekinahLife,...

I personally feel that the church take care of the needs of the vineyard first before any salary should be given to the shepard.
Here why:

1. Our communities are suffering for funds and services that are so desperately needed and the church was assigned by Christ, to do this work. It not on the city, county or the State, Christ assigned us....
2. When the community needs get met first then the Shepard and the sheep will be taken care. If we follow Christ commandments, he will provide. The community right now does supports churches today because of all of the hoopala, and flashyness, instead the core foundations of the church and thats why so many are not involved. Let reach the people and God do the blessing.
Absolutely not. Pastoring is a job in itself. Dealing with people is a job in itself. Pastors have needs as well as their families.
Nice:...You nice folks might read over the comments...before responding...

The integrity of what the Sages of Israel was long ago determined as to the correct answer..Some have merit..and then others....:however sadly not many want to put things back into there cultural and linguistic and Historical context...

Above are ~Just some starter places for those wanting to come out of 'The Imperial Church of Rome's' Misconstructed dogma and embrace the real Halachah of Israel inclusive of all the days understandings.
The Torah, Prophets and writings and qabbalah(= received traditions / tree of life teachings) Tanya ( psychology of the Soul/heart) that Yeshua taught from.
Simply Yeshua was a product of his generation with all the trappings and persecution from Rome.

Trust me in that the teaching is like night and day and the revered KJV has some serious discrepancies which are the reason of the leading astray.

Simply if people want to know the Set in Stone rulings regarding Tithe or anything all they have to do is STUDY and OBEY the sages as Yeshua taught them to do...But Sadly they refuse to go back to there heritage and walk the walk.

This is a MUST listen to audio lecture from someone who found a greater teacher than the money grubbers....
