I have been trying to get someone to show me in the Word of God where it says he is calling for prophets, and apostles for today. I read in Hebrews 11:1 where he says that he used these callings in specific times, and for specifics reasons. The people of the Old Testament did not have the written or Living Word of God so God had to use Prophets to get his will across to the people. Those of the New Testament had the Living Word right in there midst(Jesus Christ). We now have access to the written and Living Word of God today so there is no need for prophets. Also, Jesus chose twelve and eleven of those twelve were called Apostles. Paul was the last of the Apostles to be chosen by Christ. No where in His Word does he say that he would need to call others to the roll of Apostles. The Apostles were called (verbally) directly by Christ. How come we can't just be satisfied with following the command given by Christ in Matthew 28:19-20.

Paul says in Ephesian 4:11 that Jesus gave to the church apostle prohet, evangalit, pastors and teachers. Then in 1Corinthians 12:28 That God has set in the church apostle, prophet, teachers and so on. If Jesus gave them to the church and God set the in the church who are we to say different Eph.4:13 say the will be in the church until we all come to the unity of faith. The Church Has not come to the unity of faith.
And the Church will never be unified until the Christ returns. Hebrews 1:1-2 tells us that God no longer needs prophets because he speaks to us through his Son - The Living Word of God. He no longer needs to have prophets, or apostles because Jesus became a direct connection for us to the Father. The people of the old and new testaments did not have that connection until Jesus that is why there was a need for them at that time.
Hi my brother in Christ!

We now have access to the written and Living Word of God today. I do agree with you
But can we say that because Jesus has come there is no need for prophets?

Listen to what Jesus Himself said:

"Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. 35And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36I tell you the truth, all this will come upon this generation."

Matthew 23:34-36

Why did Jesus need to send prophhets in the new covenant while He was Present?

Do you know that after the departure of Jesus-Christ prophets did come?

Let's see:

"During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)"

Acts 11:27-28

Do you know that a prophet have to come in order to prepare the second arrival of Jesus-Christ?

Compare these two figures:

-First Elijah

Matthew 11:7-10; Malachi 3:1; Esaiah 40:1-5

The mission which is allocated to him, Luke 1:17: "And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous - to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

Point out that this Elijah came in a time of favour. But he has been rejected by the religious world: "But I tell you, Elijah has come, and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him."

Mark 9: 13

Only those who had revelation received John the Baptist as being the clairvoyant (Prophet) sent by God to prepare the first coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ Church is founded on revelation (Matthew 16:17-18). Amen!

Please Let us meditate Amos 3:7 :"Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets."

If the first coming of the Lord Jesus was prepared by a Prophet namely John the Baptist, What will it be of His second visit?

- Second Elijah

Do you Know that the Holy Scriptures say that a Clairvoyant (Prophet) dressed in the Spirit and Elijah's potency must again come before the second coming of Jesus Christ, this big and formidable day (Esaiah 63:4; 13:9; 61:2 / Joel 2:1-3)? Do you know it?

What does the second Elijah owe to do this time? "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."

Malachi 4: 5 – 6.

There are famous men of God today, making prodigies and miracles, but William Marrion Branham received something special for the Church of Jesus Christ. Do not have prejudices on his Ministry but poll its messages and compare with the Holy Scriptures as the Christians of Berea in Acts 17:11 did.

Let me inform you therefore that Elijah already came and the religious world treated him as a "Guru". It is not strange, history is repeated. The Clairvoyant (Prophet) of our age is definitely William Marrion Branham.

May God bless you!

So how do you account for the scripture in Hebrews 1:1-2 that tells us that God no longer needs to use these methods because he speaks directly to us through his Son. Jesus is the Living Word of God and therefore the only thing we need. Preachers and teachers are God's tools of today to spread his Word to all men. We are all called to teach, baptize, and observe all things that Christ has commanded us (Matt 28:19-20). There is no need for prophets, psychics, or clairvoyants today. Because Christ's has already paid the price for our salvation no one can predict our futures or tell us anything new because it is all in his Word. Our destinies have been pre-ordained by God - Heaven if we accept and obey Him, Hell if we don't.
Hi dear brother,

I paid a visit to your web site.

I fully agree with you when you ask preachers to “preach not what THEY FEEL OR BELIEVE but only what the Word truly says.” OK!

Then, you assert that “we are all called to teach, baptize, and observe all things that Christ has commanded us according to Matt 28:19-20:

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

I wonder: is this your own feeling, your own belief or what the Word truly says?

In fact, Jesus was addressing His disciples filled of the Holy Spirit who were elected to announce the Gospel. We are disciples of Jesus-Christ but we all are not entitled to teach.

The Bible truly says: “Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers and sisters; because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly”.

James 3:1

Moreover, the teachers should be commended by Jesus-Christ Himself:

“For it is not those who commend themselves who are approved, but those whom the Lord commends.”

2 Corinthians 10:18

My dear brother, the misinterpretation of the Word of God can lead you astray! Please put each verse in its own context then you’ll understand well the Word of God.

Now let’s us see Hebrews 1:1-2 :

“ In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.”

The verses above don’t truly say that “Now we have Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God, and therefore no need for prophets”

This is your own belief, isn’t it?

According to you why did Jesus promise to send Prophets again(Matthew 23:34-36)?

How can you explain the fact that Prophets appeared after the departure of Jesus-Christ, the Living word of God(Acts 11:27-28)?

Please tell me why!

I recognize that today, there are so many false doctors, prophets and teachers who commend themselves, using Titles(The bible speaks about it). But let me tell you that as Jesus-Christ the living word gave revelation to John in order to show His servants what must soon take place(Revelation 1:1), the Lord, the living Word still sends authentic Prophets today.

Why?

Because the Lord, the living Word is sovereign!!!

« Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.”

Amos 3:7

Blessings,

Bro. Germain

How can you say that Hebrews 1 doesn't say that he does not need Prophets? He says he spoke through at various times, but in these "last days speaks to us through his Son." These are the exact words of the scripture. How can you deny it? We don't need anyone to tell us anything "futuristic," or anyone to reveal any hidden thing to us, because we now have access to the Word of God, Christ, and God himself. I can, you can, anyone can go to God's Word, seek him, and find all the answers they need for themselves. Jesus was speaking in Matthew of himself, the twelve, and others that he would send to the Jews and how they would treat them the same as they treated the Prophets of old. I just don't believe that God has called, or needs prophets in these last and evil days. I still respect your right to believe and serve God as he has called you. I look forward to the day when we all come into the knowledge of his Love and Grace.
Yeah. What Kouassi Kouamé Germain said. God bless Kouassi Kouamé Germain. And God bless you Elder Brittain for posting such a thought provoking and controversial subject. God continue to grant you a holy boldness to pursue the truth. I pray that you fall short of nothing regarding the knowledge of God.
Pastor Melvin
I must say this: "JESUS CHRIST the same yesterday, today, and forever." If HE was personally appearing and commissioning people before, and HE appeared to Paul, why would HE stop being who HE is and what HE does now? I myself have seen the risen LORD and have been called for such a ministry. Would my testimony be worthless then? Would the Gospel I preach be worthless then? would the disciples I bring up into the Kingdom be illegitimate then?

You hold strong to one or two verses, when in fact you as an ordained Elder know good and well that its totally WRONG to build a doctrine based only around one or two verses. The Jehovah's Witnesses, and Mormons do such things, Cults do such things. Don't ignore the scriptures put out by others, at least PRAY AND READ THEM! You have access to the FATHER like you said, yet you also say "I believe...". Have you at least directly asked HIM? If you did, ask again. When you do, wait for HIS answer. Don't "believe you have an answer", let HIM speak for Himself directly. Shalom!!!
God Bless you man of God, just want to share my thoughts on this topic. An Apostle (Greek) is simply defined as one who is sent! and A Prophet is simply a messenger of Christ. Scripture says in Ephesians that God called some Apostles, some Prophets, some Evangelist, some Pastor and Teacher for the edifying and building up of the saints. Please sir, show me in the word where it doesn't say that God called Prophets and Apostles for today! Grace and Peace be unto you
