Jesus the Man of Peace

For our mid-week discussion I felt the need to talk about peace as true peace rests in Jesus Christ.

Micah 5:1-5

….Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting….And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God…And this man shall be the peace….

The prophet Micah’s hometown was a small place known a Moresheth-gath in the southern region of Judah which was approximately 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem. Micah’s prophecy was pointing to God’s punishment of Israel long before they were carried into captivity, but Micah looked beyond that time and even their return to their homeland into the future when Jesus would come, rule and restore everlasting peace, He will rule with righteousness and justice will prevail.

When Jesus comes again, He will reign with true peace, which will be restored just as it was before sin entered the world. He will have destroyed all evil, and Israel and all believers will live in safety as Christ will then be established as the true leader of the world.

When Jesus came the first time He forgave sin and provided salvation to all who accept Him in faith and all believers’ salvation are assured. Remaining steadfast in ones belief and commitment to Christ will not face God’s condemnation. Jesus is the man of everlasting peace.
