Over the years, I have heard many men and women in the holiness denominations say that women shouldn't wear pants in the church.

Were is the scripture to support the ideology that women shouldn't wear pants? If it is in scripture then I would have to ask why are men wearing pants? Did men wear pants in biblical times or did their wear something that covered their loins and then long robe like attire? I mean isn't that what you depict in your biblical plays? So why aren't the men being asked to wear similar apparel in the church to maintain a outward appearance of holiness? Why aren't they asked to not cut their hair (both facial and head)

What are the clothing designations for men in the holiness denominations.

After all, without holiness NO man/woman shall see God.....

Amen! When I first receive the Lord as my personal savior in the Apostolic church that is exactly the teaching that they were putting peoples in bondage to, and they never ever even bothered to support the teaching with a scripture. It is so awesome to hear that God is not allowing this bondage to continue in the body now; Now that I'm sixty I didn't even realize that there are some that are still in bondage with that teaching but Praise God we have someone to allow that HOLY BOLDNESS TO COME FORTH JUST CONTINUE TO ALLOW THE LORD TO USE YOU!

Coming into the discussion late, I have not read every post, so it is quite possible that I missed something a great importance. Even so -

On several forums that I frequent, there is a perennial question (debate, discussion, controversy) that comes up concerning the "correct" translation and interpretation of the verse:

Deuteronomy 22:5 A woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment; for whosoever doeth these things is an abomination unto the LORD thy God. [KJV]

Well, again the issues of dress has come up. The interpretation of this verse is both simple and complex, as so many scriptures are. Therefore, in order to accurately understand and apply this verse, let us examine what this law of God entails, as viewed from the original Hebrew language, culture and religion, from which we are to interpret God's word.

The following are taken from several archived files.

The English translation of De. 22:5 produced by the Jewish Publication Society:

A woman must not put on a man’s apparel, nor shall a man wear woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is abhorrent to the LORD your God [JPS 2000 ed.] It is important to read what is actually written, not what we want it to say. For example, 'man's apparel' verses 'women's clothing'. Even on the surface this verse is addressing two different things.

Instruction to women: Do not take up or array yourself with those implements of industry (labor or war) so as to perform those duties, tasks or responsibilities that God has assigned to men. Implied (according to the second portion of the passage): To be identified as a man – to deceive.

Instructions to men: Do not dress in the clothes of a female in order to pass as a woman. This includes the attempt to escape one’s God ordained duties, tasks and responsibilities by impersonating a woman, nor shall a man dress as a woman for sexual purposes. To be identified as a woman – to deceive.

Perhaps this will bring a little light to the foundational scripture that is usually used to argue against women wearing pants, and identify the way it has been misused in the past by men, and how it should be considered according to its author, Moshe.

This does not diminish the need for modesty or other scriptural requirements for living a godly life. But, let us use discernment andwisdom - and dividing the word of truth according to biblical principles.

Shalom, the way that I keep hear this question answered as if Yahweh gave this command to men to keep them.. from looking with lust at women. Lets stick to the command without adding our veiws which would also breaking a command. SHALOM
I agree 100%, when Paul mentioned this, it was his opinion, his thought persay of what he thought how women should dress. The key is that everyone should dress in modest apparel. Paul was saying that because the women was dressing like men. He was saying this in the mindframe for a woman not to look like a man, and a man not to have his hair looking like a woman. Many people have use the revelation of God's voice, the reason they choose not is because it's how they were brought up in traditional church, and they are afraid of change.
Pants were not known when the bible was written. So there is no scripture referring to them. however there is a scripture in Deu 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

But as I said pant were not known when the bible was written. Nowhere does the bible say pants are for men and dresses for women. That is what culture says not the Bible. However what is culturally correct will depend on what country and times you are living. After all Jesus never wore pants.

Actually women’s pants are usually different to men, and most men would not wear them. Some may argue that women should not wear pants but that is all they can do is use arguments because they do not have scripture and the one they use in Deuteronomy does not mention pants, they are twisting that verse to make it say what they want it to say.
