Salvation is it eternal regardless of the circumstances or not come on lets get everyone’s opinion

But what is your take on what would have happened if the prodigal son or anyone who had received salvation backslides by rejecting the Father, His Son, the Holy Ghost and totally turned away from the faith and DIED without having repented or had the opportunity to return to the fold. Would that person be heading for hell or heaven? This is a conversation that came up with a couple of my work colleague when we were in an after discussion on Luke 15:11-32 so I would be interested in having a discussion and receiving everyone's point of view.

Insightful and enlightening. Thank you for actually studying. Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but it is easy to see it is from the Word of God. With your permission, I may just use some of that. LOL!!! God bless you, it is a blessing to see that someone thinks these things out, instead of yeilding to denominational traditions. God didn't make men to be robots to some other man's theology. We need to seek answers from God for ourselves. Thank you my brother.

Hey Pastor Ray C. Jones,

Your remarks are generous. Thank you. I'm always grateful to share anything that can be helpful.

God bless you.

To take away freedom of choice would be against the nature of God.  God is love; He always gives us choices (The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life).

Salvation is not something God gives you and then rip away from you.  However, it is like any other gift that is given freely.  You can (1) simply accept it (2) reject it without any serious consideration or (3) take a look at it for "awhile", determine that its not for you, and then walk away from it BUT God never takes it back.

Salvation is based on faith. As long as one still holds on to the faith, the one has salvation.

The Bible makes it clear that salvation could be lost if we turn to deny the way of salvation after we have believed. But as long as we have not denied that salvation is by Jesus Christ, we are in

Hebrews 2:3 KJV

(3) How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Hebrews 10:26 KJV

(26) For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

"Sin" here refers to departing from the faith. Then nothing else can save such an one seeing that it's by choice.

Shalom

By which also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, which sometime were disobedient,

He went and preached to the spirits in prison: Apparently, this work was done in the period after Jesus’ death, but before His first resurrection appearance to the disciples. Jesus went to Hades - the abode of the dead - and preached to the spirits there.

Spirits in prison: Are these spirits demonic spirits or human spirits? We know that their disobedience was in the days of Noah (1 Peter 3:20). We have evidence that this was a time of gross sin for both demons and humans, when there was an ungodly mingling of humans and demons (Genesis 6:1-2).

But why would Jesus preach to these imprisoned spirits? In all probability, this was preaching in the proclamation of God’s message, but it was not evangelism the proclamation of good news. Jesus probably  preached a message of judgment and final condemnation in light of His finished work on the cross to these disobedient spirits.

In doing this, there was a completion in Jesus’ triumph over evil, even the evil occurring before the flood.

The Bible says that even those under the earth must acknowledge Jesus’ ultimate Lordship. Here Jesus was announcing that fact: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth (Philippians 2:10).

Some feel that Jesus preached to the people of Noah’s time, in Noah’s time. But when Peter refers to their imprisonment, he refers to their current state, not their state when Jesus preached to them, as if He preached through the ministries of Noah or Enoch.

Other feel that this was evangelistic preaching, offering a second chance to those demonic spirits that were imprisoned at the flood. But the Bible knows nothing of such second chances. (no repentance beyond the grave)

John also speaks in the book of Revelation concerning those names that were in the Lambs book of life but have been blotted out (removed)   so it's not once saved always saved CHRIST does not turn us away we choose to walk away   Judas made  a choice Christ gave oppurtunity to repent

There is no evidence that demons were engaged in any sort of mingling in Gen 6. The term "sons of God (Elohim)" has three probabilities. 1. Angels (fallen angels or demons, for that matter), 2. The righteous, and 3. the sons of the mighty/judges/rulers [see the full meanings of Elohim from Strong's or any good Bible dictionary.

In Matt 22:30, Jesus Himself told us that angels were not created with the ability to marry, and since angels/demons do not have creative power, they can not change how they were made. Thus the first probability is ruled out.

The second probability rules itself out because people cannot engage themselves in unrighteous acts and still be referred to as righteous.

The third and remaining probability makes sense of course. Because it is only reasonable for God to be angry with man for what man did. And listen to God after the events of those days, "My Spirit shall not continually strife with MAN". It was man making trouble not spirits. If the spirits were the cause, then why did God bring the flood to destroy man knowing these demons if not destroyed too will come back after the flood to still "marry" the descendants of Noah. The anger of God was because those involved married severally as they willed.

Rom 3:20, Galatians 2:16 "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified".

Therefore apart from one like Abraham whom the Bible says had the gospel preached to, none before the time of Christ will be justified before God.

Interestingly, Jesus said even the least in the kingdom was greater than John the baptist. A deeper pondering of this reveals that even John the baptist, the greatest to be born before Jesus, was not numbered amongst the kingdom folks. Why? He came by the law.

Since all judgment is hinged on Christ's paid penalty, it will not be fair if those who came before Jesus (including John the baptist who doubted Jesus being the Christ before he died - we remember after affirming that Jesus is the Christ because the one who sent him told him of the sign of the Holy Spirit descending upon the Messiah, he later sent from prison to ask whether Jesus was indeed the Christ) were not given any opportunity to hear the good news too.

Once saved forever saved as long as one still holds on to the faith. But when one denounces the faith the one's name of course will be removed from the book of life. Heb 2:3, 26.

Jesus triumphed over evil on the cross. Col. 2:14-15

Thank you for this - glad to see someone else having the same understanding of the topic like I do.

There's no such-thing as temporary Eternal life..
This reminds me of Once saved always saved wich is not true..I heard some give an illistration of the Prodigal Son,lets be mindfull that he walked away from his hedge of protection,,again he WALKED away no one took anything from him,,and we do the same thing we walked away from God/Yahweh he never took anything from us,,,you see he allowed us to walk into our own will ,,he never created us to robots,,,one more,,lets look at King David who had the anointing for over twenty years and lusted /desired and had bethsheba's husband Uriah killed,,he too walked away from his anointing but if you read Psalms 52 how he cried out and was welcomed back,,alson 2 chronicles 7V14 explains more of Gods people returning back to his fold as far as what must be done after Sin or walking away,,say all thius to say Churches must stop teaching that YOU CAN  SIN AND STILL MAKE IT IN WITHOUT REPENTING
Amen
