Should a pastor that spends most of his time preaching and teaching get paid for what God has him to do? I know what the scriptures says about this, but would you pastor for free?

ANNA I WILL HAVE TO AGREE WITH PASTOR EDWARDS, WE DONT LIVE TODAY LIKE THEY DID IN BIBILICAL DAYS. THE CONCEPT IS THE SAME THOUGH, LET ME ASK YOU THIS, DO YOU GO EVANGALIZEING EXACTLY THE WAY JESUS INSTRUCTED THE DICIPLES?
Paul was a tent maker. He had a job . He didnt need to get paid But he had that right if he wanted to get paid.
now Bros. If you are preaching the Gospel to get paid ,you need to find a church that can pay. "a workman is worthy of his hire". But dont find a small church and want big money "GET YOU A JOB" Paul did.
Thank you for your in put brother White.
I work 10-12 hrs. A day. Go to school Teach preach and Pastor.
Just asking a question. To get other Pastors in put
Thanks.
Never said anything about BIG MONEY.
God Bless You
Let me say this to all. Before this get out hand. Many people have taken this the wrong way. It was a simple question.
2. I just wrote a Book entitled to the "Young Minister" That will start publishing the end of next month. And with you all permission, I wanted to add some of your information to a chapter that I am closing on.
This was not that I will not Pastor for free because I do.
I was writing my experience about that and others who been there.
Please look out for that book that will be on Amazon and Google.com and your local book store.
It is more than one way for God to supply. We must use our gift and Talents.
Please don't come on here to tare me down.
I am just asking opions and I have gotten some very good ones.
Thanks to all.
Yes, to be honest brother I did not even think Pastors got paid when God called me to the ministry. Most pastors I knew / know work. Or they was retired. So it was not a problem for me.
I still work. But God has blessed and the church is growing. And I just can not find the time to do what I need to do in the ministry. Brother I feel that Iam short changing God.
I work 6 days. Go to Bible college 2 days out the week.
Teach Bible study on Wensday. And preach on Sunday. Many times 2 services.
I used to do the Sunday school lesson too, but I appointed some one to do that.
It is so much to do in the ministry and I think a lot of people do not know what Pastors have to put into it. I still have to make time to study. To be a husband and a father.
24 hour. Is just not enough any more.
And I know I have to make a choice soon.
I work on commision. So I must perform to make enough to live.and I have been doing this before I was Pastoring.
So when hospital visits come,funerals, weddings ,
When I take off work. To do these church activties. I do not receive compensation for these activities.
And Man preaching two sermons on Sunday and work on Monday. Oh MY God. It feels like I had ran a marathon. And it took a toll on me.
I was rush to the hospital at the age of 35.A few yrs ago. I thought I was having a heart attack. Dr.said I Needed rest. When you are yong you feel you can do it all.

When I am in that pulpit there is no other place I rather be.
Well Iam at work I will get back to you.
God Bless
Brother Pastor Edwards:
I just started a new blog entitled "Church in the Home" which investigates just what type of meeting place did the first century church have. In case you weren't aware, they early church some 7000 strong (fewer probably actually lived in Jerusalem) met in private homes.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

Church in the Home - At this point in our study, we can see that the first century church commonly met in small groups, in people’s homes. This is the pattern established in scripture. There is no scriptural reason why this pattern shouldn’t be adhered to today. Why did the style of church meetings change to large groups, meeting in large buildings called “Churches”? I don’t know, but I do know that there are great benefits to meeting in small groups in a believer’s or the overseer’s home.

A very obvious benefit to small groups meeting in homes is the freedom from the huge financial burden of a large building’s expenses. A church in a believer’s home doesn’t have to carry the extra expenses of an additional church building.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Because of "Tradition" people think that they must attend "services" in an edifice "dedicated" to that purpose, but where is that requirement in the Bible? Where is that example in the Bible? Obviously it is not there. So why continue a tradition without a Biblical model or example? This too comes from the European history of the church and is where many of the false doctrines and teachings that the church possesses today, are rooted.
I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM BUT,IF GOD BLESSED SOLOMON TO BUILD A CHURCH IN 1KINGS,WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT TODAY?
I have started two other blogs discussing the "Home Church" which was the model for the Apostolic Church.
Here are excepts from my last blog:
Pt. 1) "House Church Basics"
God is changing the Church, and that, in turn, will change the world. Millions of Christians around the world are aware of an imminent reformation of global proportions. They say, in effect: "Church as we know it is preventing Church as God wants it." A growing number of them are surprisingly hearing God say the very same things. There is a collective new awareness of age-old revelations, a corporate spiritual echo. In the following "15 Theses" I will summarize a part of this, and I am convinced that it reflects a part of what the Spirit of God is saying to the Church today. For some, it might be the proverbial fist-sized cloud on Elijah's sky. Others already feel the pouring rain.
1. Church is a Way of Life, not a series of religious meetings
Before they where called Christians, followers of Christ have been called "The Way". One of the reasons was, that they have literally found "the way to live." The nature of Church is not reflected in a constant series of religious meetings lead by professional clergy in holy rooms specially reserved to experience Jesus, but in the prophetic way followers of Christ live their everyday life in spiritually extended families as a vivid answer to the questions society faces, at the place where it counts most: in their homes.
2. Time to change the system
In aligning itself to the religious patterns of the day, the historic Orthodox Church after Constantine in the 4th century AD adopted a religious system which was in essence Old Testament, complete with priests, altar, a Christian temple (cathedral), frankincense and a Jewish, synagogue-style worship pattern. The Roman Catholic Church went on to canonize the system. Luther did reform the content of the gospel, but left the outer forms of "church" remarkably untouched; the Free-Churches freed the system from the State, the Baptists then baptized it, the Quakers dry-cleaned it, the Salvation Army put it into a uniform, the Pentecostals anointed it and the Charismatics renewed it, but until today nobody has really changed the superstructure. It is about time to do just that.
3. The Third Reformation.
In rediscovering the gospel of salvation by faith and grace alone, Luther started to reform the Church through a reformation of theology. In the 18th century through movements like the Moravians there was a recovery of a new intimacy with God, which led to a reformation of spirituality, the Second Reformation. Now God is touching the wineskins themselves, initiating a Third Reformation, a reformation of structure.
4. From Church-Houses to house-churches
Since New Testament times, there is no such thing as "a house of God". At the cost of his life, Stephen reminded unequivocally: God does not live in temples made by human hands. The Church is the people of God. The Church, therefore, was and is at home where people are at home: in ordinary houses. There, the people of God: -Share their lives in the power of the Holy Spirit, -Have "meatings," that is, they eat when they meet, -They often do not even hesitate to sell private property and share material and spiritual blessings, -Teach each other in real-life situations how to obey God's word, dialogue - and not professor-style, -Pray and prophesy with each other, baptize, `lose their face' and their ego by confessing their sins, -Regaining a new corporate identity by experiencing love, acceptance and forgiveness.
5. The church has to become small in order to grow big
Most churches of today are simply too big to provide real fellowship. They have too often become "fellowships without fellowship." The New Testament Church was a mass of small groups, typically between 10 and 15 people. It grew not upward into big congregations between 20 and 300 people filling a cathedral and making real, mutual communication improbable. Instead, it multiplied "sidewards", like organic cells, once these groups reached around 15-20 people. Then, if possible, it drew all the Christians together into citywide celebrations, as with Solomon's Temple court in Jerusalem. The traditional congregational church as we know it is, statistically speaking, neither big nor beautiful, but rather a sad compromise, an overgrown house-church and an under-grown celebration, often missing the dynamics of both.
6. No church is led by a Pastor alone
The local church is not led by a Pastor, but fathered by an Elder, a local person of wisdom and reality. The local house-churches are then networked into a movement by the combination of elders and members of the so-called five-fold ministries (Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Evangelists and Teachers) circulating "from house to house," whereby there is a special foundational role to play for the apostolic and prophetic ministries (Eph. 2:20, and 4:11.12). A Pastor (shepherd) is a very necessary part of the whole team, but he cannot fulfill more than a part of the whole task of "equipping the saints for the ministry," and has to be complemented synergistically by the other four ministries in order to function properly.
The Bible says that they were FIRST called Christians in Antioch Acts 11;12.
This actually was the way that people mocked them.
I find no where in the scriptures were they were called "The way". I have not been on here for a little while.
So please tell me where are you getting this from in the scriptures. Not the Encyclopedia.
And Elder and Pastor is consider the same.
Elder - just means Senior.
Some churches don't call them Elders.
They are called Senior Pastor which means the same.
I do agree with you that the offices must be in play to equip the Saints.
Even that scripture does not say Elder. as a office because it is covered under Pastor.
Please enlighten me on what type of church do u attend?
Most pastors who start churches fall into two catagories. Those who feel they should, and those whom God actually told to do it. Those who fall into the first group will find all kinds of struggles and successes depending on the financial, admistrative and educational acumen they possess. Those in the latter will find an equal amount of struggles and successes, however, because God is the backing of their ministry, eventually things will work out. How do you tell the difference? When the pastor of the first group dies, usually the ministry slowly sinks into oblivion. The latter has the church still striving long after that pastor has gone to glory. The pastor that has been called by God will get paid. Only when the world finds out about how much he is now making, they forget to tell about the years he was pastoring for little more than a labor, and burden of love. It is not a matter of should, but the really called will, and it will not be a burden to their church.
I for the Case of Tithinking.It is biblical that whose ever works in the temple etas in the tepmle"That there may be food in my house'god's presece presentative is the the Pastor"My house"(The Church)e.g when the Pastor can put up well then means the church is not taking care of their own pastor'they gave according"so it is a command that not only offerings,salaries but possitions.Here in Kenya -africa many people have heads of cattle and one out of those catlles/cows belongs to God.My children if they are ten one belongs to God all my clothesi am just a watchman they belongs to God.The church memebrs i pastor belongs to Jesus and out of my witness/evangelism one out of 10 people i win to christ i give one to christ.Am for the spirit that churches takes care of the pastior.Since it is a high calling and no any other work a part from priesthood.
