I needed a bible with a better concordance while studying yesterday, and I picked up a bible in a home where I serve as Nanny for 3 children.

This family doesn't serve God, but the mother handed me a bible called the New American Bible I thought OK, I've never heard of it, but it's got large letters (the other reason I needed another bible:)

Upon further inspection, I noticed it was a Catholic Bible, containing books I've heard of, but never actually read i.e. Sirach, Tobit, Baruch, the book of Wisdom and a few more.

I was fascinated reading the history of these books! In many of the description there was a notation: "this book is not recognized by the protestant faith"

If the Bible is inspired word of God given to men so that we ALL may come to know him, why aren't all the known books included in mainstream christiandom for our growth and edification?

PraiZe,

It depends on what each denomination believes. You have some denominations that does not use the Old Testament alone. The Apocrypha are usually used by the Roman Catholic Church, Greek, Russian, Ethopian, Coptic Orthodox Churches. Protestant Churches do not use them, for many of them condemn the books as being uninspired. That comes from a lack of knowledge of the books.

I myself, is a Nazarene, and the Wisdom of Sirach is very positive to the law of God. The book of Wisdom is pretty good also. My mind is open to the Apocrypha books, because they may be inspired. I'd say that if you are interested in studying those types of books, then do it while asking the Lord for knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.
You are a Nazarene as in naional family orgin, or God called you to be one? Just curious.
Culberson,

The first Jewish believers in Jesus were called "Nazarenes". These people were the earliest followers of the Apostles, and of "The Way".
Quite Frankly,

I was highly impressed with what I read in both Sirach and The Book of Wisdom. It's a fascinating read and I'm now searching the internet and seeking as much information as possible.

Your statement " It depends on what each denomination believes. You have some denominations that does not use the Old Testament alone" was however, a bit troubling. As old as I am, I still don't get it.

Thanks for your response.

PraiZe,

That statement is very true. There are over 1500 denominations within Christianity alone. Many of them do not adhere, or believe in the Old Testament, and so they do not read, teach, or preach from it. Some denominations probably go as far as reading from "New Testament Only" bibles, which I am sure you have seen before.

Virtually, all Protestant Churches deny the Apocrypha. They deny it not by solid scholarship, but they deny it because its "not in the bible". Any honest bible student who know that just because its "not in the bible", does not mean its loaded with 100% false teachings.
The mere statement that there are over 1500 denominations/divisions in CHRISTIANITY is ....excuse me, INSANE.

As for not teaching from the Old Testament, well that's like saying your family began with you, all by yourself, no history, no legacy, no example or lessons learned.

The world won't come to a Jesus that the church blocks with tired tradition.
Dear sister!

Please, do not let Moreh Yaakov lead you astray, may he be a nazarene!

Please get rid of this Catholic Bible offered to you!

No matter how fascinated you were by reading the history of its books!

Please, pray God sincerely and He will reveal you why this book is not recognized by the protestant faith.

Please get rid of this Bible!

I'm not a Bible scholar.

As a Christian, I'm led by the Holy Spirit.

I hope that the holy spirit will convince you to get rid of that uninspired Bible. I dare say uninspired Bible!

That's all I can say!

Blessings,

Bro. Germain

Bro. Germain,

Although I respect your opinion, and concern I would never allow anyone to "lead me astray"

I am saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Spirit, I'll say again "filled with the Holy Spirit" not opinion nor individual denominational agendas, but what saieth the Lord.

Anyone who rebukes wisdom, dare I say, is not wise. I continously seek wisdom, knowledge and a better understanding of my Christian Lifestyle, and am not swayed nor intrigued by same old programs and worn out tradition.

I've just begun researching this "Catholic Edition of the Bible" I'm not studying a "faith" or a doctrine or dogma, because my faith is in Jesus.

In all things, especially with the "accepted" version of the holy scriptures I ask God to reveal himself to me through the written word.

I've never found wisdom to be uninspiring. I don't have to place 100% of my belief of the scriptures to any man's interpretation(s) of them, but allow the holy spirit to lead and guide ME to the truth.

It's sad how the bible has been sliced/diced and doled out to fit a particular niche, just because SOMEBODY decided along ago they didn't like it, and found a way to get others to agree with the madness.

I'm sure God's intent was never to fit into ANYBODY'S man made hole! Yet, some kind of way the PEOPLE have figured out a way to become further divided and keep the world from the true and saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and Him Crucified.

The 4th Chapter of Ephesians speaks to the UNITY of the body, nowhere am I aware of Christ dividing his people.

I quote from this Catholic Bible:

Ephesians 4:11 - 16

"And he gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, to EQUIP the holy ones for the work of ministry, for BUILDING UP the body of CHRIST, until WE ALL attain to the UNITY OF FAITH and KNOWLEDGE of the Son of God, to MATURE manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ, so that we may no longer be INFANTS, tossed by waves and swept along by TRICKERY, from their cunning in the interests of DECEITFUL scheming. RATHER, living the TRUTH IN LOVE, WE SHOULD GROW in EVERY WAY into HIM who is the head, JOINED and HELD TOGETHER by EVERY SUPPORTING LIGAMENT, with the PROPER FUNCTIONING of EACH PART, brings about the body's GROWTH and BUILDS itself up IN LOVE."

Again, I appreciate your concern, but I'll be O.K.

praiZe
PraiZe,

It truly is insane, yet its all too real. Christianity is THEE most divided religion in the world. I believe one of the reasons is that Christianity excludes the law and the Prophets.

The law and the Prophets are THEE foundation for understanding the New Testament. If you take out the foundation, then how can anything else stand?
YES!

Yes, we are "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit."

Ephesians 2:20-22

This is the true fondation!

It's not the man made theories, philosophy, doctines, opinions.

Indeed Brother Paul said:

"By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames".

1 Corinthians 3:10-15

Brother Paul warned us again saying:

"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ."

Colossians 2: 8

He who has an ear, let him listen to what the Spirit of Christ says to the churches!

Blessings,

Bro. Germain

Why aren't all the Christian known books included in the mainstream? Many believe it's to keep folks from following deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Spiritual wars over mainstream religion are fought today by not recognizing them, no longer by swords & blood, but by wealth not faith, it divert us from the truth.

Not to get off your subject, but you said, the family you are employed by don't serve God, you shouldn't judge someone's faith, faith is inside one's spirit their soul, not what books they purchased. God created all, God, I believe, don't judge what he created, no matter what is written about being judged by God according to the law, because he knows all thoughts & actions good & evil before they take place. Your employers, me, you & everyone else in America is judged by law not God The Constitution & the Bill of Rights that's what have power over us.

To get back to question, it maybe to keep folks from following deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
I maybe wrong.
My reason for mentioning the fact that they don't serve God, was in reference to my wondering if there was a bible in the home. Nothing more, nothing less!

Maybe I should have said they're not "Church Goers", my bad!

I'm not judging anyone, if I were I wouldn't be here in the first place. and whoever said they purchased the book? Somehow you made an assumption that's just not there!

How can one be deceived by wisdom? Have you ever read from these books? If you think you'll be tossed to a fro, maybe it's best to stay clear.
