I find that a lot of us play music and sing for lots of different reason. Some play in the church simply because " its my job". Others play because they are a member of the church and what better way to give back to my church and God. Other play because because they just enjoy it. Why do you please please explain why? What's your story?

I really desire to play at my church but am reluctant too because of the skills level which I play, the type of music which I am accustomed to playing, and they type of music that is played in our church services. I enjoy playing and I would like to minister in this capacity as unto the Lord. I grew up in a missionary baptist church but now I am affiliated with a church that worships in the charasmatic, black pentecostal style of worship. God has given me the ability to learn and I feel like the least I could do is to offer my services back to him this way. We have communion on third Sundays and I used to play for the Mother's Choir but we follow the leading of the Holy Ghost and many times they don't get the opportunity to sing. It happens not only on third Sunday but any Sunday and no-one seems to mind. We just enjoy our services and the presence of the Lord being manifested. At other times the youth/adult praise teams and sunshine band, youth, and adult choirs get to sing.

One weekend when I came from college I was standing in my front yard with my younger brothers and some friends. As I was admiring how pretty and blue the sky was it was like a giant movie screen just opened up in the sky. I saw myself sitting on an organ in a church service. It was altar call. The minister was standing with a microphone in his hand. I began to play soft, sacred music. No words were being sung or spoken. People from the audience were flocking to the altar some being slain in the spirit even before they reached the altar. It was such an awesome vision. Every since that saturday I've had this intense desire to be used of the Lord in that capacity.

I used to play for a local methodist church here and I experienced something similar to this. On many occassions, after the choir had sung the invitational hymn the pastor would still be talking. I would play softly various songs as the spirit led me too (until the pastor finished speaking) and people in the audience would be touched (ministered to). I was just
happy to be used by the Lord.

I have always loved playing but just haven't reached the level of proficiency that I desire. Pray for me.
Stay with the Lord and be faithful....and He will give you increase...and I'll be praying for you as well.
A wonderful testimony. Keep praying and keep trusting. Scripture tells us to delight ourselves in the Lord and He will give us the desires of our heart. Jesus said, "whatever you ask in His name, He will give it to you." Do you believe it? If so, you already have it! I declare God's glory on you as this message is being sent.
in the past i did not want to play . but as the Lord begin to deal with me i found out that i had to obey this part of my calling. beacause as a minster i would rather preach and teach. however the word said to whom much is given much is requied, i once told my teacher in college that i would never play again . he said that would not be able to stop. that has been many years ago.. i like the teaching part of music. i dont rely on my skill but the Holy spirit.
Wow you sound like me. I went through a phase where I just wanted to teach and would refuse to believe that music is all that i have to offer. but as God began to deal with me i relalized that there is no difference in the importance of a certain gift and to tell God what i wanted to do for Him and what i would rather not was an insult to Him. Thanks for sharing
I play ultimately because of His call on my life. I tried to run from playing for the Lord, but, in the end I would not trade it for anything. Knowing that you have a gift is one thing, but knowing that the Lord uses your gift is another. As humbly as I possibly can, it was the Lord who compelled me to play. I tried things my way to no avail. Ever since I returned to the Lord and was obedient to playing my saxophone for Him, I've been truly blessed.

Some get caught up in the numbers and dollar signs (I believe that minstrels should be compensated), but I play out of appreciation on how He's spared my life and has transformed me.
I sing in my church and I feel it is my calling. I love to sing and I don't want to sing for entertainment I want to sing songs that minister to people. I feel this is the place God has gifted me and I wouldn't have it any other way!!
I play because the Lord has seen fit for me to have the talent to grace his name by the sound of my instrument and he has given me the opportunity to lift every voice by the sounding of the flute and praising his name. The main reason is because I love praising his name in song . Sometimes when we praise him we do not even use the instruments but let our voices raise his name and the blessings that he gives us is enough for us to go stronger in his psalms. Music is just another instrument that we use for giving the glory to his name. Sometimes we forget that the reason for our talents that he has given us is to worship him. Let us remember that he is the light and the glory and that we are just a speck in his plan and we should praise him in song and dance when we get the opportunity.
I am a musician I grew up playing in church with a love for God's move through music. I remember being in church services and there wasn't a service that could go by where His spirit didn't move and songs directly from heaven were given and sung right on the spot during services. This taught all of us musicians in the church to be sensitive to the Spirit of God and His Move in a service. I never knew anything about musicians being paid for playing. I was taught that my playing was always a form of my expression of praise and worship to him and nobody has ever had to pay me to prise or worship Him. I do it because I love Him. But I don't believe that if a church ministry is able to pay then they should at least offer something because music ministry is extremely important in the church and as far as ministry is concernrned. Especially as far as the prophetic ministry is concerned. But muscians should not prostitute there gift nor hold churches hostage if they can't pay them. The gift was given for the growth of the Kingdom not to make your pockets fat. If we seek the Kingdom of God first all the othe things, money favor bills paid , gifts making room for us etc. will come in God's time when He sees we are ready for it.
Some musicians play because it is a gift from God. The Apostle Paul tells us in 1st Corinthians 12 that we all have been given gifts to benefit the entire church. To some the Spirit gave the gift of Apostles; to others he gave the gift of teaching, preaching, prophecy, helping others, etc. One of my gifts is music. Although I am a Senior Pastor, God also gave me the gift of music, which I promised that I would always use to serve Him. When I served as Minster of Music and musician, I didn't view it as a "job," but as a way to serve God. Many people are blessed through music and it was certainly my honor as a servant of the Most High God to bless others as God has blessed me!
WELL PASTHE WORD TOR I PLAY FOR THE LORD BECAUSE MY PASTOR MADE ME REALIZED THAT I WAS'NT JUST A MUSICIAN FIRST I JUST DID'NT PLAY FOR THE CHURCH BUT MY FIRST CALLING IS PREACHING THE WORD OF GOD AND EVEN THOUGH I LEARED HOW TO PLAY BEFORE I STARTED PREACHING THAT PLAYING WAS JUST A TOOL THAT GOD WANTED ME TO USE FOR HIS GLORY AND TO LET ME KNOW THAT HIS CALL WAS ON MY LIFE EVEN NOW OUR CHURCH CANT AFFORD TO PAY ME BUT MY MINISTRY IS THE GOSPEL WEATHER THROUGH PLAYING OR PREACHING SO WHEN THEY TOLD THEY HAD TO CUT MY SALRY I SAID WATEVER THE LORD WANTS
I play because i'm annointed to play and i believe that it is God's will for me. I play for his glory.I Love my church and i believe in working for my church. I also play at whatever church i am called to play at.I just really wanna be a blessing.
