Called to Discipleship: Mark 1:16-20
Now as he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets and followed him.
Reflecting on this quarter's Sunday school lessons that focus on the Call to Discipleship, I felt the need to remind all believers that we are called by God to spread the gospel message of salvation. In doing so we as Disciples of Christ there is a cost, but we must be willing to bear that cost given the sacrifice our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ made proving salvation to all.
Our lesson text reflects the willingness of His disciples to answer the call and serve as fishers of men (v. 17). Believers today must have that same willingness to become a servant in bringing others to Christ. They took no thought for their well-being and or family they immediately left and took up the cross of being Christ's disciples.
The disciples' action is evidence of their faith. This principle applies today that speaks to our faith by our works because faith without works is dead (James 2:26b KJV).
Answer the call with hesitations.
