And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.  And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

Today's message is from this weeks Sunday's school lesson, and as I was meditating on what to talk about, I received a confirmation from God to remind everyone that He still answers prayer. I am thankful that He does.

A brief background of today's message is that Hannah was barren, which is without a child. Hannah was miserable and bitter because of her barrenness. Hannah may have at times been depressed, but through it all, she never wavered in her faith that God would answer her prayer.

What are the takeaways from this lesson?

  1. Faith-Hannah kept her faith in God as she believed and understood the true definition of faith as recorded in Hebrews 11:1, which states "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
  2. Hope-Hannah never gave up and poured out her soul to God in her prayer request. Hope is vital when we are petitioning God for something that to others may appear foolish to others.
  3. Power of Prayer-Hannah recognized that there is power in prayer, and she prayed in faith and from the depths of her heart knowing that God hears and she believed in her heart that He would answer her prayer.
  4. Expression of gratitude-Hannah's promise to give her son back to God when she states "then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head." Hanna kept her promise to God. Two thoughts from Hannah's actions are (1) thankfulness for answered prayer, (2) recognizing that children are our gifts from God, and (3) acknowledging that nothing is impossible with God.

Today's message is to encourage all to have faith, and hope knowing that God is the same today as He was during the Bible days and still answers prayer; therefore, be patient and wait on God.

Prayers of the righteous availeth much (James 5:16b).
