An open letter from New Orleans clergy to the community of New Orleans

We’re standing together for a united city …

To the blessed citizens of New Orleans,

As clergy leaders in the city of New Orleans, we have watched and listened intently to the ongoing conversations about the monuments to the Confederate States of America that dot our City’s landscape. We also carry some of the weight of responsibility for the presence of these monuments, for we know that pastors, Bishops and Archbishops before us were key figures in seeking funding in the efforts to erect these very monuments.

For some, the confederate monuments are symbols of our history that ought to be preserved. For many others, these symbols are living reminders of slavery, our segregationist past and the still bleeding wound that is systemic racism.

As the spiritual leaders of New Orleans, we know the power of symbols, which is why we stand in support of their removal. In their current state, lacking any proper context, these monuments do not teach us about the past. They reflect a deafening silence about Jim Crow culture.

Statues such as the Statue of Jefferson Davis located at the corner of Canal Street and Jefferson Davis Parkway, Robert E. Lee in Lee Circle formerly known as Tivoli Circle, the memorial inscription at the Monument of The Battle of Liberty Place and the statue of General P.G.T Beauregard at the entrance to City Park are living links to past crimes against our common humanity. As symbols in our growing international city, these monuments belong not in our public line of sight, but in museums where context and education may be given and learned from.

At the base of our nation’s greatest symbol, the Statue of Liberty, there is an inscription. It reads:

Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

These words and this symbol have given hope to millions across all generations, across all nationalities, races and cultures. It is this type of monument under which we, the people of New Orleans, should gather to celebrate our life together in our sacred city.

New Orleans is a great city. Its people have done great things in the arts, music and industry. This is the culture and history we should celebrate in our monuments, for they point to who we are as a common people and who we want to be.

The YouTube produced video, Staying Safe on YouTube, clearly states, “YouTube is not for kids under 13…come back after your 13th birthday.”

#2: YouTube has porn

YouTube’s Community Guidelines state, “YouTube is not for pornography or sexually explicit content. If this describes your video, even if it’s a video of yourself, don’t post it on YouTube.” Still, this does not mean YouTubers don’t push the limits.

In 2009 the Media Research Center published an official report about the volume of sexually suggestive content on YouTube. They searched for the word “porn” on YouTube and studied the 157 most popular search results—videos that had been viewed more than 1 million times each. Two-thirds of these videos advertised themselves as being actual pornography, and many showed brief clips from porn films, interviews with porn stars, or advertisements for porn sites or phone sex lines.

#3: YouTube has other sexual content

Mainstream media uses YouTube to post the latest music videos, movie clips, and movie trailers. Everyday YouTube users also publish their own sexually provocative content: crude humor, low cut clothing, and adult conversations.

#4: YouTube contains profanity

Other than hate speech and threatening comments, there is nothing in YouTube’s Guidelines about profane language. Many YouTube videos contain language parents would not want their children hearing.

#5: There are alternatives for kids

Bypass YouTube altogether. Use sites that produce their own kids-friendly videos. They make up an estimated one in three visitors to adult entertainment websites.

With the uptick in Internet use and the growth of online pornography, we can assume more men and women are viewing this content. Women also read erotica in huge numbers, with 50 Shades of Grey by E. L. James breaking records as the fastest-selling Kindle eBook and paperback novel in history, according to Business Insider.

It's much harder to find similar articles tailored for women, leading many to deduce that pornography remains a struggle only for men. When we don't talk about women and porn, women everywhere hide in the shadows with this deep-rooted secret. Thousands, perhaps millions, of Christian women struggle with sexual sin, and we must speak openly about these temptations.

It started when I was 9. A few days before, some friends were giggling about this thing called sex. I searched for it on Google, and up came countless links to pornographic websites. I clicked on many of them, and the screen was soon covered with explicit pop-ups. A flood of intense shame came over me, but I wanted to see more. I almost got caught, so I resolved to never do it again. I came too close to being exposed, and the shame was too much.

As a teenager, I became romantically involved with a guy who had just graduated from my school. Before long, we were discussing sexual fantasies. It was an intimacy that I could control.

On the inside I was slowly wasting away, chained to my addictions and the woundedness that I was trying to avoid.
Beloved Brethren,

let us remind ourselves of some core faith and believe that has made christianity sacred.
if you do what the world do, What is your difference, where will your reverence come and who will then be saved by you?

Ephesians 4:32 (AMP)
“And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.”
Be fair to others for you are not perfect, leave a vacuum, a puffer zone of tolerance for yourself and others.

Matthew 7:1 (AMP)
“ Do not judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves.”

6:37 (AMP)
“ Judge not [neither pronouncing judgment nor subjecting to censure], and you will not be judged; do not condemn and pronounce guilty, and you will not be condemned and pronounced guilty; acquit and forgive and release (give up resentment, let it drop), and you will be acquitted and forgiven and released”.
intercessory prayer?"

intercessory prayer?"

Answer: Quite simply, intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of others. The role of mediator in prayer was prevalent in the Old Testament, in the cases of Abraham, Moses, David, Samuel, Hezekiah, Elijah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. Christ is pictured in the New Testament as the ultimate intercessor, and because of this, all Christian prayer becomes intercession since it is offered to God through and by Christ. Jesus closed the gap between us and God when He died on the cross. Because of Jesus’ mediation, we can now intercede in prayer on behalf of other Christians or for the lost, asking God to grant their requests according to His will. “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). “Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us” (Romans 8:34).

A wonderful model of intercessory prayer is found in Daniel 9. It has all the elements of true intercessory prayer. It is in response to the Word (v. 2); characterized by fervency (v. 3) and self-denial (v. 4); identified unselfishly with God’s people (v. 5); strengthened by confession (v. 5-15); dependent on God’s character (vv. 4, 7, 9, 15); and has as its goal God’s glory (vv. 16-19). Like Daniel, Christians are to come to God on behalf of others in a heartbroken and repentant attitude, recognizing their own unworthiness and with a sense of self-denial. Daniel does not say, “I have a right to demand this out of You, God, because I am one of your special, chosen intercessors.” He says, “I'm a sinner,” and, in effect, “I do not have a right to demand anything.” True intercessory prayer seeks not only to know God’s will and see it fulfilled, but to see it fulfilled whether or not it benefits us and regardless of what it costs us. True intercessory prayer seeks God’s glory, not our own.

The following is only a partial list of those for whom we are to offer intercessory prayers: all in authority (1 Timothy 2:2); ministers (Philippians 1:19); the church (Psalm 122:6); friends (Job 42:8); fellow countrymen (Romans 10:1); the sick (James 5:14); enemies (Jeremiah 29:7); those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44); those who forsake us (2 Timothy 4:16); and all men (1 Timothy 2:1).

There is an erroneous idea in contemporary Christianity that those who offer up intercessory prayers are a special class of “super-Christians,” called by God to a specific ministry of intercession. The Bible is clear that all Christians are called to be intercessors. All Christians have the Holy Spirit in their hearts and, just as He intercedes for us in accordance with God’s will (Romans 8:26-27), we are to intercede for one another. This is not a privilege limited to an exclusive Christian elite; this is the command to all. In fact, not to intercede for others is sin. “As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you” (1 Samuel 12:23).

Certainly Peter and Paul, when asking others to intercede for them, did not limit their request to those with a special calling to intercession. “So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him” (Acts 12:5). Notice it was the whole church that prayed for him, not just those with a gift of intercession. In Ephesians 6:16-18, Paul exhorts the Ephesian believers—all of them—on the fundamentals of the Christian life, which includes intercession “on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” Clearly, intercessory prayer is part of the Christian life for all believers.

Further, Paul sought prayer on his behalf from all the Roman believers in Romans 15:30. He also urged the Colossians to intercede for him in Colossians 4:2-3. Nowhere in any biblical request for intercession is there any indication that only a certain group of people could intercede. On the contrary, those who seek others to intercede for them can use all the help they can get! The idea that intercession is the privilege and calling of only some Christians is without biblical basis. Worse, it is a destructive idea that often leads to pride and a sense of superiority.

God calls all Christians to be intercessors. It is God’s desire that every believer be active in intercessory prayer. What a wonderful and exalted privilege we have in being able to come boldly before the throne of Almighty God with our prayers and requests!

There are the arguments about "tithes" versus the "freewill offering", and both of these arguments fall short of addressing the real issues as to why there is constant "APPARENT Finance Need" in Christian Church assemblies for the ministry infrastructure and lay members as well.

Just from an economic principled standpoint, the visible church suffers from a lack of engaging in reciprocal activities, which can be found in many ministries both in natural and spiritual things. Ministries should constantly measure outcome; the word of the LORD produces fruit, not just resistance by some who choose not to listen to the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST but as well, lives that are noticeably changed by the power of the preaching of the Gospel. Because many times Outcome isn’t adhered to in the persistent administration of ministry it becomes a victimization of “assumption” that the ministry and its constituents fall prey to. It is assumed that what is given is what should be given and when the result is various poverties we are slow to modify our actions hence leaving us with church assemblies that are in constant struggle in building participation, etc.

Spiritual Reciprocation can be found in Matthew 14:14 where it is noted that after the people had followed our LORD JESUS in His teaching that they were worn, and the reciprocation came about where it reads “and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.” Cycles of wealth exist where there is investment and reinvestment. Every ministry must be sure that it is giving back into the people’s lives in order to strengthen the people so that the people may continue to support or strengthen the ministry- reciprocation.

Everyday, we as lay people and clergy support services and products that do not reciprocate back to us beyond the benefit of the service or product itself; many of us do this while at the same time declaring “we don’t believe in investing in those who do not invest in us”. Yet while saying this we shop at stores, patronize services and at the end of the year we have our business agents go and beg for contributions from some of these entities in light of our 501c3 statuses. The visible church has positioned itself in a horribly flawed state of relationships lacking reciprocal activities, many times within the assembly and almost 100% of the time from without.

In a free trade market there is no reason why the visible church should not be nearly self contained financially, enabling it in each sector of such a domain to fund its own education facilities, hospitals, banks, funeral homes, malls, radio stations (as opposed to a show slot), gas stations, etc. Aside of too many individuals seeking to be chief, which is what creates fertile ground for gentrification, there is this “JUST ENOUGH” environment looming due to a lack of reciprocal practices leaving the visible church in a perpetual state of begging alms.

There are activities that the visible church can do from within that are proven to build not only money but also residual wealth. In a basic relationship most of us would refuse to give to someone daily while only being afforded his or her physical presence as a reward. We expect our boss to reciprocate, our spouse, our children, our clergy and lay members, our neighbors and others as well; all this we do while not demanding that those who we patronize with our dollars to patronize us in return whether we fill out a requisition form and whether we’re 501c3 eligible or not. This is a major problem producing fertility for poverty in that wealth is only traveling in one direction, toward the vendor.

What if there was a way to be compensated when you patronize and promote? Everything we patronize we end up promoting aggressively or passively, but either way we promote it. Example: if you enjoy a movie, dinner or someone compliment you on an outfit you’re wearing 99.999% of the time you’ll direct them to where you experienced or purchased it. This model of promotion is one that we only get an EGO boost from and usually no monetary compensation. What if a product or service that most of the congregants in a Christian Church assembly normally used was purchased through a program headed by the assembly resulting in the assembly and members who chose to participate in the opportunity aspect of it to earn residual income? If the income builds as the participation grows, what if each assembly was linked with other assemblies showing them how to experience the same success as they have, which as a result would make 2nd offerings not necessary during times of gathering together? There is such a mechanism that exists!

This model, as I believe, is alluded to in Matthew 14 when in verse 19 it states “And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.” The end result is that no one was left hungry by the time the last person is fed as verse 20 reads “And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.”

I believe that through reciprocal activities the visible church has the opportunity and will have the means to become self sufficient apart from the typical construct of begging alms. If certain things the assembly and lay members will purchase regardless (such as soaps, hygiene, skin care items, etc.) then why not be compensated for them as a result of one’s neighbor finding out where to get it from because of them? This is at best called “Community Commerce”. There is no reason, due to the existence of this model, that church assemblies are not financially self-sufficient. Most assemblies fellowship with no less than 5 other assemblies in a given year; with each church assembly involving most of their membership and then partnering with other assemblies to do the same with their membership it would put all in a position of having the perfect number of GOD’s Government [12] with provision as a end result. This is a GAME CHANGER! Not that these models haven’t been introduced to some in the past, but because it is clear that the LORD is soon to come and so many Kingdom activities that need finance such as foreign missions, missionaries getting aid for church assembly buildings in foreign lands, food/medicine as a prelude to missionary work in stricken areas, etc. there is need to change the game and our paradigm on finance in these end times for the visible body of CHRIST.
