BREAKING THE BONDAGE OF UN ---- FORGIVENESS

Matthew 18:21-35
Matthew 18:18
John 20: 23

INTRODUCTION:

A.
1. Definition of forgive:
1. Oxford Dic.
a. forgive – cease to feel angry or resentful toward another; pardon. Excuse; overlook; give mercy.

2. Bible Dic.
a. forgive – The expression to forgive sins means to remove the sins from another----Which only God can do this.
b. To forgive sins is not to disregard them and do nothing about them, but to liberate a person from them their guilt, and their power.

Let me make this statement more clearer: In the Our Father’s Prayer Matt. 6:12—And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
c. (We) are to ask God to:
1. forgive us our sins, our faults
2. meaning –we are asking God to:
3. remove them away from us so that we do not stand guilty of them or under their power.
4. We are never expected to forgive the sins of others, because we have no power to do so, but we are expected to forgive others.
B. Story:

We had a friend who raised and trained dogs. Some of his dogs were chained and kept in a cage and others were just kept in a cages. They were not allowed out to play with kids or to get any kind of affection from humans. And you probably think that this guy was cruel to his animals. We even accused him of being cruel to his animals. He trained them with a choke chain—a very short leash or chain leash. Whenever the dogs wanted to go a different way than the way he was leading them he would jerked their heads back around to follow his lead. Day in and day out he treated his dogs this way. He would not let anyone speak to his dogs or give them any commands. They were only allowed to hear and obey his commands. He was training them to be guard dogs. And when a potential buyer would come and choose the dog they wanted then and only then would he allow the dog to respond to the buyer.

Some of you have been trained the same way by Satan: He has put a chained of un-forgiveness around your neck. Others he has kept in a cage; unable to leave your cell of un-forgiveness. Some of you try to go a different direction from where he has been leading you, and every time you say you have forgiven someone, Satan snatches your head back around to remember why you shouldn’t and why you can’t forgive them. He is keeping you on a short leash or chain leash. Meaning he doesn’t give you much leash to roam away from his hand.

Today, I am going to give you spiritual keys that will set you free from Satan chains and cages of un-forgiveness.

I. Key #1. What Happens When You Don’t Forgive
II. Key #2. Who Do You Forgive?
III. Key #3. Why Do You Forgive?
IV. Key #4. How Do You Fogive?

I. Key #1. What Happens When You Don’t Forgive

A. It blocks and hinders your relationship with God. You can not hear God
clearly and you don’t grow spiritually. You are stuck in a rut.

1. Causes Resentment
2. Causes you to be angry
3. Causes you to become hateful
4. Causes you to become revengeful
5. Causes you to have murder in your heart.
6. Causes you to have a hard heart.

B. It brings sickness and death. Not forgiving a person is a sin of disobedience. God requires and commands that we forgive one another.

1. Un-forgiveness causes turmoil in your mind. You can’t think about anything else, but what that person has done to you. Every time you think of them you think of sin they committed towards you.

2. Un-forgiveness causes you to be sick. You don’t eat right. Some of you try to forget by drinking…which causes damage to your kidneys and liver. Some of you try drugs: legal and illegal drugs. After awhile they cause damage to you body and mind.

3. Un-forgiveness causes death. Some commit suicide. Some get to the place where they can no longer love others. They hide deeper in the shadow of their cages.

II. Key #2. Who Do You Forgive?

A. Yourself: The first person you probably have not forgiven is yourself.
More people lack forgiveness toward themselves than toward
Anybody else. When you forgive yourself then you can
Understand -- As far as the east is from the west, so far has He
removed our transgressions from us –(Ps. 103:12: )

If you are a believer, He has already cleansed your conscience
from dead works so that you might serve the living God (Heb.
9:14)

B. God: There are some of you who have blamed God, because a child died; because a husband or wife ran away. Whether it was consciously or unconsciously you thought all these things were God’s fault. There is deep-seated resentment; however, you cannot be resentful toward God and experience an intimate relations with God. You got to rid yourself of this bitterness.

Question to ask yourself: Am I blaming God for my situation?

C. Family: You have to get rid of resentment towards those who are closets to you. Especially when there has been slights and resentments built up in and from family situations. Whether it be your husband, your wife, your children, your parents, etc.
All lack of forgiveness has to be eliminated.

D. Anybody else: Any one else that has done anything against you. Whether it be your boss, co-workers, church folks, or people in passing.

If you want to see heaven and you want the power of God flowing in your life, and you want that deeper relationship with God, then you have to forgive. Forgiveness is the key to breaking the hold of Satan on your life.

III. Key #3. Why Do You Forgive?

A. Three Reasons:

1. It is a condition that must be met in order for you to receive forgiveness from God.

a). Matt: 6:14-15 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

2. It is a condition that must be met in order for your
prevailing prayers or your prayers to be victorious.

a)_ Mark 11:25-26 25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 “But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

3. It is a condition that must be met in order for you not to be bound to the person you have un-forgiveness for as well as not to bind the hands of God.

a) Matt: 18:18
Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven

John 20:23
If you forgive people’s sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.

IV. Key #4. How Do You Fogive?

Matt: 18:35
So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses."

The Good News Translation states it this way

And Jesus concluded, "That is how my Father in heaven will treat every one of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

**********FORGIVE FROM YOUR HEART**********

This is a dynamic key!! Forgive from your heart.

Conclusion: We have been forgiving people only with the words of
Our mouths, not with our hearts. This is why we have still been in bondage to the unforgiveness of that person. Satan has kept our eyes blinded from seeing the truth forgiveness.

You must forgive the person from your heart!

Forgive them to the point where you actually fell yourself cleansed of resentment and bitterness

and are actually praying for them.

If you don’t, the chains Satan has of un-forgivenss will continue to hold you on a leash and in that cage. That cage where you are on display for every one to see.

Do you want to be free? Are you tired of being on that choke chain? Are tired of the cage you’re in?
Do you want to be made completely whole?

Are you ready for your relationship with God to be free of all the blockage and walls un-forgiveness has brought between you and your Father, God?

Come to the altar. It is time to get things right in your heart.

God wants you to be free. Come to his loving arms and cry out to him.
