I've contemplated today, the difference between desire and enthusiasm. Enthusiasm seems to me to be a passing emotion that must be fed frequently in order to survive. A desire is an internal resolve that might not travel with enthusiasm, but the desire knows no other choice but to press on!

For example, a person desiring to gain improved health, may not enthusiastically embrace the process required to achieve the goal, but will not allow the lack of excitement to impede the desire. Could it be that the guidance of the Holy Spirit is expressed through desire? Read Psalm 37:4 which essentially says that if we take pleasure in the Lord, he will deposit his desire in your heart. We who are led by the Spirit are also therefore led by our desires. Not our enthusiasms! For often what excites me, competes against my earnest desire. What is my truest desire? That I may know him and the power of his resurrection. My decisions should be based on that desire, even if it contradicts my emotions.
