God's Name Is On The Line

Recently there was a discussion on YouTube regarding feminine ways in Godly men. A particular individual was trying to defend himself because; a woman posted a comment about the questionable behavior from this person and his friends. In his post, he was telling us that masculinity does not define a man, but how he lives his life for God.

Some commented that homosexuality is not of God and he should change his ways. To be fair, this individual never said he was gay, but admitted that he does make feminine gestures from time-to-time.

However, he did defend the position that because we are born in to sin and homosexuality is sin, then we can be born gay. As you can tell, the conversation got heated between him and other people leaving comments on his page. After being frustrated with the comments, he disabled the comment portion of his video. I did however, save what I wrote on his comment page before it was deleted:

I was trying my best not to enter this discussion, but I feel I must. We must first agree that we are all created in the image of God; but sin has distorted the image and perception of God. Jesus not only died and rose for us to free us from the bondage of sin, but also to restore the image and perception of God through our lifestyles. This why we are called ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). It is true that we are ALL born into sin and shaped by iniquity, but where we go wrong as Christians is trying to cure the “symptoms” of sin and not the actual problem – sin itself. That being said, no one is born gay just as no one is born to be a murderer, whore, or an adulterer. These examples are the results of sin. To put it plainly, it is “natural” to do these things because it is our sin nature, but we are not subjugated to our nature. Our sin nature does not hinder free will. Therefore, sin is sin – singular. Social interactions and circles, circumstances, and situations help to determine how sin will express itself.

We must keep in mind that although God has given us individuality, it must be surrendered to the reputation of God. We no longer live for ourselves, but for Jesus Christ. We no longer represent ourselves, but Jesus Christ. Therefore, we must care about what people think or say about us to a point – God’s reputation and name is on the line – not ours. Remember, we are ambassadors (representatives) of Christ. We all struggle with something, but once it is exposed as a hindrance to the representation and/or reputation of God’s name we have to do something about – no matter how small it is.
