Hip Hop in the Church

I now understand more and more about this so-call world of "Hip-Hop". I understand now why "Hip-Hop"has really no place in our churches and yet it's slowly creeping in our church doors. After hearing all of this, I will stand behind fellow clergy members by NOT allowing "Hip-Hop" into our churches.

Pastors,Ministers and Church Leaders, would you allow "Hip-Hop" in your churches? Is this a way in keeping our youth in church? I am interested in all feedback concerning this issue.

Please define Hip Hop for me becuase to comment on this without that definition might be unfair. Are we talking about Style, Music, Praise and Worship or something else. See Hip Hop is to me a culture and unfrmtunately you can't keep a culture out because then we go back into the dark ages when we couldn't wear bright colors, women couldn't cut their hair, Brothers sat on one side of the church and sisters the other and so many other things that are laughable.

 

So let's define in detail what we are speaking about before we co-sign on something without all the facts.

 

Are they hopping too much in church? Yes, but if that's what it takes then let them hop.

 

Let me say for the record that there are more kids in Church in this day and age than at any other time in our history and that is based on the societal changes that families are smaller but more Youth participate in Church today. I have to believe that some of that is the infusion of the Arts into our worship and praise. The "hype" of today might be the link or bridge to keeping them. I remember the Clark Sisters and Andre Crouch were too much 30 years ago giving way to Contemporary Gospel Music over Traditional. Let's be careful where we take this dialogue because in every generation this has come up. Thomas Dorsey the Father of Modern Gospel Music wasn't always beloved...Clara Ward and and Stars of Faith either.

 

Let's define what we are talking about and make it clear that it's subjective to say it's the times.

This is a Call for Participation in an INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF NGOs holding from 30th July till the 10th of  August  2011 in London, United Kingdom where as many as 200 participants from across the world including Health Practitioners, Professionals in relevant fields, Lawyers, Psychologists, Women and Youth Development Groups, Government Officials, Donor Agencies and participating NGOs will meet to discuss issues pertaining to the Welfare of NGOs and also to meet others like yourself, to learn, teach, inspire and being inspired. This event will be exploring the potential of a practical approach that will unleash and nurture the human capacity to create, collaborate and change positively, the world at large.

What are the objectives of this meeting? The meeting will provide a medium where participating individuals and NGOs will convene to address and discuss ways of improving key Humanitarian issues and topics with much emphasis on Human Rights, Gender Equality, Peace and Security, Social and Economic Development, Youth and Children, Health Education, Ethics and Value and Environmental Protection. Participating NGOs will have direct access to grants by International Donor Agencies.

The opening Lecture will be held by Dr Mrs Nadia Rita who is the President of the Center for Human Rights Research and Development, Maputo - Mozambique.The program will include:
* Thought-provoking plenaries
* In-depth breakout and dinner sessions for strategy-development
* Capacity and skills-building sessions; and
* Debates to stimulate discussion.

In addition to the main program, the meeting will also host book launches, artistic and cultural activities, exhibitions, plenty of space and opportunity for informal networking and alliance building.

All plenaries and selected breakout sessions will have interpretation into English, Spanish and French.

Who can participate? What happens if more than 200 participants apply? Anyone who is a member of an NGO, Professionals in related fields, Students Unions, Lecturers of Universities and Community based organizations, the Clergy as well as women and youth development groups can apply to participate.

If more than 200 people apply (as we anticipate), a global selection committee will select a representative 200 from among the applicants. This committee will ensure that the participants at the meeting are truly international and represent a diverse range of interests, issues, and regions.

The events shall commence on the 20th July till the 30th of  July  2011 in London at Abba Queens Gate Hotel London.
I can't afford the cost - Can you help? Dylan House Foundation has set up an Access Fund to support the travel costs for all qualified participants.

How do I apply, and when is the deadline? All Interested organizations should send an email to the Local Organizing Committee. Participants MUST be a group of 1-3 persons to qualify for registration.

Hip-Hop is not the problem.  It is what we bring with the Hip-Hop.  For example, years ago, Kirk Franklin and Tye Tribett would have never been able to sing and play the songs that they do.  We use to automatically connect there style of music with the world.  We later were reminded, that it is not the style of your music, but the spirit behind it.  I love Hip-Hop, but it doesn't mean that I have to sag my pants, curse, have gold teeth or be disrespectful.  We must be careful that we do not discriminate people right out of the church before we they have a chance to get saved.  If you are that worried about styles of music, study them.  We must study everything to show ourselves approved.  You might find that some of the people into Hip-Hop are some of the strongest Men and Women in the Lord that you will ever meet.  You will never know though until you find out for yourself.

The world has come into the church. We don't have to compromise to make our services exciting. The power of the Gospel turned the world upside down with the Apostles.  God is the same today, tomorrow and forevermore. Live what we preach about and the young people will come in.

My sister, you are speaking The Gospel in English, yet The Word was written by people from The Middle East.  Did God change so that the dialect would? No! He gave The Word to a people who could speak the language of others.  Please understand that Hip Hop is the language of a culture.  As long as the message used by Hip Hop is Gospel than may God be glorified.  We cannot generalize Hip Hop music, just like we can't generalize all of Christianity.  We know that everyone that calls themselves a Pastor or Minister, Evangelist, etc. does not live with The Passion of Christ (remember Jim Jones?).  Hip Hop is a language, and tool that God has ordained some to use.  Remember we are a body with many members.  Hands don't look like nor operate like legs.  Appreciate our differences & diversity and be there to love a teach us.  

 

You're an Apostle I assume, so that means you establish ministry.  If you have established globally than you should speak the language of the people of that nation, not try to make them speak English.  Slavery in America changed the image a Christianity & many churches have not broken from this twisted way of conforming people to Westernized traditions of Christianity.  When did Jesus do that?

To be honest this post been up here for year why we still debating on if Christian hip hop is of god of not. We are looking like fools. what is your mission to debate or go out there and save souls. How dare you say that something not of god when you here the content all in the music. Don't check the music which have a purpose for saving souls check the heart of men. For them brothers and sister who disagree to be honest don't get mad and try to prevent everything that u just don't understand. If the style of music not for u then cool say that instead having opinion on what god music should be in the church. Just call Christian hip hop bait for the youth to get closer to Christ.
