Is your church growing? Do you have lots of first-time guests but fail to see them become a part of your church? Are you frustrated with how your church responds to the visitors who come?
How sad it is that most churches only retained a very small percentage of the people who visit. Keep in mind these visitors are very often individuals who are looking for a church to call their own. Many of them are at a crossroads in their life or they're looking for a place to worship God. Since they have visited your church, they've demonstrated to you that their heart is open to the idea of making your church their church. But what causes them to not return?
Wouldn't it be nice if we could take a poll of all of the individuals who visit our church once or twice but do not stay? I for one would really be interested in knowing why people don't return and make our church their church. They seemed very interested. They prayed at the altar. They met some new friends. But why don't they come back?
Recently, Pastor Tracy Lewis contributed an amazing message to www.PreachIt.org. The title of the message is Entertaining Strangers. As soon as I received this sermon outline from him, I immediately forwarded it to one of our pastoral staff. I wanted him to see this incredible message that I had just received. I've been so excited about Entertaining Strangers that I have shared it with our church the last two Wednesday nights. Even though our church is very good to our guests, Pastor Tracy's message definitely had a lot more to say to us that we needed hear. Thank you Pastor Tracy for sharing a message that has been a huge blessing to our church.
Could the answer to why our guests don't return be as simple as how they are treated by the church members in the first few moments of their visit to the church? You will be very surprised to find several keys to unlocking your churches potential to retaining your visitors.
