Let’s Put an End to This False Doctrine

There is an unbiblical doctrine where people believe once they profess with their mouth, believe with their heart and become baptized in the name of Jesus Christ they are saved and cannot loose their salvation. This belief is sometimes known as Once Saved Always Saved (OSAS). Well let’s use just a little common sense and a lot of scripture to see if their claim is actually supported by God’s holy word!

Who Gets in and Who Doesn’t

I was going to save the main point for the end, but I know Israel’s attention span is short so I’ll cut to the chase! Let’s look at just a few scriptures and rely on God given common sense to see just how impossible the OSAS doctrine is.

Let’s read who will enter God’s kingdom, when they find out, and how this information is revealed’;

Rev.21
[2] And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Now this is what we all look forward to; entering New Jerusalem and eternal life is the promise God says He will give to all that obey Him. Let’s continue;

[7] He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
[10] And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

Now let’s read who inherits all things and is allowed to enter this city and who does not;

[27] And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

So only those whose names are written in God’s book of life are permitted to enter.

Now let’s read the fate of those whose name is not found written in God’s book of life;

Rev.20
[12] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

ALL of the dead were judged based upon what was written in the books. Let’s continue;

[15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

So whosever name is NOT found in God’s book of life will be cast into the lake of fire.

Let’s review’;

God’s word says ONLY those whose name is in His book will enter into His holy city. Rev.21:27

Anyone who is NOT found in God’s book of life will be cast into the lake of fire. Rev.20:15

You do not know if your name is in God’s book of life UNTIL the book is opened and your name is read. Rev.20:12,15, Rev.21:27

Now let’s turn for a moment to common sense to figure out another fact;

What will be the fate of a person that dies while their name is still written in God’s book of life? Before answering understand this, once you are dead that is it. Let’s quickly read the condition of the dead;

Eccl.9
[5] For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
[6] Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

So a dead person cannot change their fate once they die.

Common sense right?

With that said, a person that dies and their name is written in God’s book of life WILL receive the promise of entering New Jerusalem and eternal life.

Think about it! To die with your name written in God’s book of life……can a person get any more saved than that? Of course not!

Now what it take to get your name in that book is a question that will be addressed in a moment. But for now let’s look at the flip side;

Is it possible to have your name removed from God‘s book? Is it actually possible for someone to do something that will cause them to loose their salvation? Let’s think about this for a second. What if it were possible for a persons name to be removed from God’s book and they died before their name is replaced? What is their fate? If it were not possible would there even be a discussion about it in the bible? Let’s search God’s word for such a discussion.

It All Boils Down to One Thing

Let’s read a conversation Moses had with God after returning from receiving the commandments. What we are about to read is really a plea to God for the wrong the people had done;

Exod.32
[30] And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
[31] And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

Now let’s read Moses plea to the Lord;

[32] Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

Moses plea to God was that his name be removed from the book of life. Now did God say that was something that was not possible? On the contrary! Let’s read what thus said the Lord;

[33] And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

Notice God did not say it was impossible for name to be removed, He said quite the opposite!

Now I know this was spoken in the OT and some may think it was only for those of that age, so let’s search God’s word to see if someone other than an OT figure spoke of blotting names out of God’s book of life;

Rev.3
[5] He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Well there you have it! Not only will names be blotted out of God’s book of life…..it will be Jesus Christ doing it!!!!

So it IS possible for a name to be removed from God’s book of life! And what is it that will cause a name to be removed? Sin!!!

And what does God say is sin?

“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”

So a name that is written in God’s book of life is NOT permanent! And if that is the case, salvation is not guaranteed! God tells us the one thing that will cause a name to be removed is breaking His laws, or SIN!!!

Now let’s go back to using common sense for a minute. If breaking God’s laws causes one to have their name removed from His book of life, shouldn’t keeping His laws cause your name to remain?

Common sense right?

Now I’m sure there will be some that try to refute this by quoting different scriptures, or not believe it at all, but the fact of the scriptures remain.

A NAME CAN BE REMOVED FROM GOD’S BOOK OF LIFE!!

Now let’s read some other scriptures further supporting what we have just read.

God IS Fair!

Ezek.18
[20] The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Now we know what a sinner is. It is one that breaks the laws of God, which, according to God's inspired word, ALL have done. And the scriptures says he that sinneth shall die. Understand the death spoken of here is the second death. Now let's read what happens if the sinner turns from his ways, and stops breaking God's laws;

[21] But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
[22] All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

So the sinner can change his fate, as long as he is alive that is. If he stops breaking Gods laws none of his transgressions will even be mentioned.

Now let's see if there is a flip side to this. Let's read what happens to the righteous when they stop keeping God’s laws;

[24] But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

So all of the good things a righteous person does can be wiped away and counted for nothing if he begins to sin. And does he have the chance to redeem himself? Let's read;

[26] When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

Just like the sinner, if the once righteous dies in his sins, he shall die the second death.

This goes hand in hand with what God told Moses;

“Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.”

Gods ways are fair and equal for both sinner and righteous, just as He says in His word.

Now some may want to still believe that they know they are saved, and once they are, they always will be, but let's read one more verse to see if a NT person thought the same way.

Let's read what Paul had to say about the possibility of him NOT making it into God's kingdom;

1Cor.9
[27] But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

So even Paul realized that it was possible for him to blow the mission and miss the mark, if he did not keep his body under subjection. So we find that Paul didn’t even consider his salvation guaranteed.

Now we know for a fact there are some that are already in God’s book of life and they died having, “…a good report…”. But let’s read how close it will be even for them;

1Pet.4
[18] And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Now if God’s righteous scarcely make it…..where does that leave you and I?

So there you have it.

If a person dies and their name is in God’s book of life they will, “…inherit all things…”!

For those that die, having done something to have their name removed, they will be, “…cast into the lake of fire…”!

God says these will be the ones who names are blotted out, “Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book;”

Nobody finds out until, “…the books were opened…”

If a name that has been removed is not replaced before they die and before the books are opened and read, the lake of fire will be what they inherit!

OSAS……just does make SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!

You said: "So, being separated from the PRESENCE OF GOD is not saying we lost our salvation - right? or wrong? Because I do understand that sin does separate us from God."

No, actually if you are outside of His presence, you are outside of salvation. We speak so heavily of His saving grace as if its mandatory, but its exactly what it says: Saving GRACE. That means it is not a mandate, and therefore this gift can be taken back by His choice (highly unlikely), or forfeited by your choice (likely). "I love you LORD JESUS" will get you the response of "if you love ME, then keep my commandments".

You said: "This scripture clearly tells me that IF WE ARE TRULY SAVED, we cannot do a 180 degree turn and completely and totally reject Christ, because to do so means we were never saved in the first place. This is basically what I am saying and believing that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. When a person is saved, he/she may faulter from time to time, but like to prodigal son, they do return to the Lord with a repentant heart."

Yes and no. Your point is true to an extent. This scripture says that if you reject GOD's goodness after tasting and seeing that the LORD is good, then there's no turning back. It was clearly said by JESUS Himself that if one blasphemes the HOLY GHOST, then there is no forgiveness for them. When a person is saved, there is a choice to follow GOD. We are not robots to His will. All things are by option.

"Choose ye this day whom you shall serve....."

When CHRIST spoke of the sheep and the goats, that wasn't of people who didn't know CHRIST. ALL the people in that parable, both Sheep and Goats were servants of GOD. Lets look at the words of CHRIST in this passage of scripture:

Matthew 24:45-51
"Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

It was the servant that was disobedient in this parable that was appointed the same punishment as the hypocrite (the wicked).
What do you do with this passage of scriptures?

Hebrews 6:4-6
For it is IMPOSSIBLE for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
That coincides perfectly with my statement!

"If you turn back from that, however, then its like committing treason."
As well as these newview

Hebrews 10:26-29 (King James Version)

26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

28He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Great thread. Let's keep the discussion going....
I figured nobody wanted to talk truth.
It appears you may have attempted to end this so-called "false doctrine" earlier and it didn't work then and it will not work now, because IT IS NOT FALSE!

Is Your Name IN God's Book of Life, or Has it Been BLOTTED Out?
. Posted by Eccl. 12:13 on July 25, 2009 at 1:46am in Doctrine

God's Assurance: "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life..." 1 John 5:13.

To call it eternal life would be a mockery if the person who had it could lose it and suffer eternal death. On the contrary, eternal life is linked with the promise that one cannot perish - a clear assurance of "eternal security" or "once saved, always saved." John 3:16 promises those who believe in Jesus Christ that they "should not perish, but have everlasting lie."

This is my concise response to this topic. No further comments to be added as I do not wish to debate the Word of God.

Shalom in Yeshua
This is a good post Eccl.12:13!
The book of Romans is a letter to people who had already obeyed Acts 2:38 to become Christians. It is interesting that most folks advocating "once saved always saved", have never even obeyed Acts 2:38 to really become Christians.

Always remember when reading the epistles that these are letters to people who Paul regarded as Christian because they had obeyed Acts 2:38. Read Acts 19 to confirm for yourself that Paul adhered to the Acts 2:38 salvation plan.

No one who is still alive is saved as an entirety until we leave this ole earth behind.

1Pet 4:18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

So what is grace?

Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Much is said about the Grace of God, but what does it really mean? Some would have us believe that because of His grace, we can do whatever we like, and still be saved. Is that Biblical? That is what I want us to answer in this discussion.
There are 159 verses in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible containing the word grace. The one listed above, Genesis 6:8 is the very first, so, let's follow that thread throughout the scriptures to see what the LORD's Grace meant first of all to Noah, and then to us.
The preceding verses give the background to our verse above...
Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Gen 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Gen 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
From that first bite of the forbidden fruit, mankind had degenerated into such evil, it repented the Lord that He had even made them. It grieved Him to such a point, that He had to destroy them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Gen 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Gen 6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

Gen 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
Gen 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.
So, we see that God showed grace to Noah by telling him what was to happen, and how to keep from sharing the fate of the others. God made a covenant with Noah. What did Noah do?...
Gen 6:22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Noah, recognizing the grace of God, was obedient to Him. Fast forward now, to the new testament, and let's see what is said of Noah there...
Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Noah had faith. He had saving faith. The kind of faith that is acted on, not just given lip service. It was because he found grace in the eyes of the LORD that the LORD warned him, and told him what to do. It was because Noah had faith, in the grace God had shown him, that he was obedient to what the Lord told him to do.
Now, there is much more that can be said about the grace shown to Noah, and his faith in obeying, but I want us to now think about what this means to us. God once again has told us what is going to happen, just as He did Noah.
In the book of Revelation, we are told of the great tribulation that is to come upon the earth, and those on the earth. This will be a time unparalelled by any event, or group of events in history. But even this time of tribulation is dwarfed by what we read here...
Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Again, God has shown His grace to us by telling us what is to happen. He has also shown His grace to us by telling us what we need to do, just as He told Noah.
Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jesus says we must be born again, of the water, and of the spirit to enter the kingdom of God, and avoid the lake of fire. He goes on to say this...
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
So, we have to believe in Jesus, to have everlasting life. The question then is what does it mean to believe in Him? Well, it means exactly the same thing it did for Noah. We have to "believe unto obedience". Noah was saved by grace, through faith, because of his faith, he built the ark. Read this passage...
1Pe 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Jesus, by dying on the cross for our sins, has given us an escape. Our responsibility is to obey Him, just as Noah did. Instead of building an ark though, we are told to be born again, of the water, and of the spirit. How do we do that?
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
This has been a very brief look at the grace shown to Noah, and to us. Take the time to study if for yourself in more detail. Now a word of warning though...
Jud 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
There are many false teachers, and preachers in our day, that turn the grace of God into lasciviousness. They say "just believe, that's all you need to do". Friends, God indeed has shown His grace to us by taking on flesh, and dying for our sins. He has warned us of what is to come, and how we are to be saved from it, but, like Noah, we have to act on it. Believe upon the Lord Jesus to obedience, repent (turn away from) of your sins, be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus for the remission of your sins, and be filled with His Holy Spirit. That my friends is the only ark to save you from the wrath to come. That is true grace!

God Bless!
Pages of scripture is so unproductive, not to mention boring. The Word itself is not boring, it's the random of scriptures posted that can be boring when the answer could be given with one or two scriptures. I never understood why some people feel it is necessary to post so many scriptures just to answer one question. I would hate to sit and chat with these individuals in person for fear of getting a sermon for every question or point I attempt to make.
Awake o Sleeper! Come to the Truth! When God's Word is boring to you and you get tired of hearing the whole truth. Your eyes become sleepy. Just remember All scripture is Profitable that means PRODUCTIVE!

2 Timothy 3:16 (King James Version)

16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
It never fails . . . people read what they want to read and then misquote a statement to try and prove their point of view. I find it appalling when people try to put words into my mouth through false accusations.

I NEVER SAID THE WORD ITSELF WAS BORING.

No further comments to be made.
Sister Della Morton is only doing what God said we should do when studying His word;

Isa.28
[10] For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

Topic with topic. Line upon line. Searching the scriptures here and there.

Luke 4
[4] And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Using EVERY WORD of God. That means, Gen. to Rev.

2 Peter 1
[21] For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Believing that the words that were written were inspired by the Holy Spirit, so we read with confidence.

Acts 24
[14] But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

Doing as Paul, and believing ALL THINGS written in the law and the prophets, Old AND New Testaments.

2 Tim.3
[15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Knowing that the same scriptures that we read in the OT are able to give salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

1 John 4 [1] Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Testing those that profess they are called of God by asking them questions and taking note of their answers.

1 Thes.5 [21] Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

2 Tim.4 ... make full proof of thy ministry.

Proving all things.

2 Tim.3
[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
[17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

And finally using ALL of the inspired words of God for ALL of our doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction, so that I can be as perfect as possible so that I can perform the good works that are needed.

The answers to many questions concerning God's word is spread throughout the entire bible. God did it like this for a reason....you gotta want to know His truth. And to do that you must, "

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
