Greetings. The Five Offices which the Lord Jesus Christ left are important and should be followed: there are no Rev, Dr., Overseer or other strange titles/offices mentioned in Ephesians, chapter 4. Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher are the Only offices in that list. God is upset with people adding to this list and polluting the ministry of His Son, the Apostle of our souls (Hebrewws 3:1-2). Let us seek the truth about where we belong and stop getting in lanes(offices), we should n… Continu

Amen!
So if one goes to school and receives a doctorate degree in whatever.... it is inappropriate to mention that title?
Of course not, Sister. An earned award such as Doctor is a secular achievement, not a "religious title". However, many of us do think that when one feels that they must call themselves The Right Reverend Doctor Apostle, Evangelist, Pastor, Preacher So-n-So, Enquire is sort of over doing it.

Consider: 2 Tim 6 ¶ Wherefore I [Paul] put thee [Timothy] in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
11 Whereunto I am appointed a [1] preacher [evangelist], and [2] an apostle, and [3] a teacher of the Gentiles.
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. {believed: or, trusted}
13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Verse 11 will preach.

There is nothing wrong in using titles, when it is appropriate to do so. The problem is when titles become a person’s badge of spiritual superiority over “mere saints” or to establish a “higher” position over those in the “lesser ministries”. Another major danger (along this same line) is when individuals start assuming that they can walk in more than the office that God has ordained for them. That is, being found to be in extra favor with the Holy Spirit so that one’s calling(s) and gifting(s) elevates them up, over and above everyone but perhaps Christ Himself. Like with Paul, one may be appointed to perform a number of tasks, as time, circumstances, conditions, and events may dictate, but from his letters and from Luke’s writings, it does not seem that Paul expected to be addressed by much of anything except his name, Paul. Even Peter referred to him simply as Paul.

In the writing of letters, however, it was common for the author to identify himself by name and office. Mostly, or so it would seem, that those receiving the letters would know which Paul, Peter, etc. was the author of the letter. It is not unlike how the several different Judas named in the N.T. were identified.

If one is called to be a prophet, then do the duties, functions, and assume the responsibilities of being a prophet of God. If an evangelist, then evangelize; as a shepherd, then shepherd, etc. If we desire to be noticed and deferred to by men, to sit in the chief seats in the synagogue (church), and to be announced/addressed by our"royal titles of exalted positions", then the door stands open for the entering in of spiritual pride, and few are those who can withstand the temptation.

Finally, let the fruit of your labor and the testimony of the Holy Spirit be the witness of your calling/office/ministry.
I think I attempted to say too much with too few words. Or, perhaps to say just a little, while using way too many words. [sigh]
lol I understood perfectly, and agree!

The Right Reverend Doctor Apostle, Evangelist, Pastor, Preacher So-n-So, is over doing it.

you summed it up well with

Finally, let the fruit of your labor and the testimony of the Holy Spirit be the witness of your calling/office/ministry

It is in ones best interest not to be concerned with what ones call you but what you answer to, and we should always be answering to God not man
This statement is not quite true. There are men and women who we as God,s children to answer to: Apostles and Prophets are the highest ranking officers on Earth. There are scriptures concerning this matter: Romans, Chapter 13 and Hebrew, Chapter 13. Remember the scripture which says" first natural, then spiritual. God has an order on earth as well as in heaven. A-men
It is okay to use titles earned while in a secular setting or when writing a book, only. God did not oradined titles. he did ordain offices. Each office has a rank in structure. Read Ephesians 4:11 and 1 Corinthians 12:27-30. A-men
God requires us use as office addressment. I am Apostle, Riley. For with that acknowledgement comes full power and authority with that office. Be Bold and Trust God.
