Hello!!! I'm not exactly trying to start a debate but, I work so much and I don't make it to church often and I am truly a babe in Christ, still trying to read and understand the bible and I was always taught to tithe, because tithing is what you owe and offerings is what you choose to give, then I had some people tell me that I shouldn't tithe because its not necessary. We had an open discussion about it and all I could do is sit there and listen because they were so sure that tithing was not necessary and I did not know what to say. I'm in my twenties and I try to tithe and give my ten percent but at times I do fall short and I mess up, but I am praying about it. So, if anyone can explain this process to me, it would be great appreciated!!! TIA!!
Yes we should tithe. Just as The Most High has blessed us we should return unto him a tenth of our increase. Look at what Jacob said. Read:
Gen 28:20 KJV - And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
Gen 28:21 KJV - So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
Gen 28:22 KJV - And this stone, which I have set [for] a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
Look at a command.
Lev 27:30 KJV - And all the tithe of the land, [whether] of the seed of the land, [or] of the fruit of the tree, [is] the LORD'S: [it is] holy unto the LORD.
Lev 27:32 KJV - And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, [even] of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD.
Now look at The Most High rebuke for those who do not tithe:
Mal 3:8 KJV - Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Mal 3:9 KJV - Ye [are] cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, [even] this whole nation.
Mal 3:10 KJV - Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].
Now, we must equate produce of the land and cattle to money today (unless you are a farmer). You see catlle and crops were essentially money and a sign of wealth in biblical times. Therefore tithe of your paycheck (after Taxes). Tithe of whatever income you receive (inheritance, tax refund, lottery money, etc..)
Now the tithe was for the Levite and your family to eat in the prescence of The Most High. Now there is no temple where The Most High is today and no Levites serving him.
Now if the way be too far; you are to.. Read:
Deu 14:23 KJV - And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.
Deu 14:24 KJV - And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; [or] if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
Deu 14:25 KJV - Then shalt thou turn [it] into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:
Deu 14:26 KJV - And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,
That was the annual tithe. Since there is no temple and Israel is now occupied by many nations of people, you must tithe according to Deut 14:24-26. Annual tithe.
Pastors are not Levites and are not equivalent to Levites or priests. But that does not mean you can not give your tithe to the church. As you see, the tithe can be used for whatsoever your soul desireth.
Every three years you are to.... Read:
Deu 14:28 KJV - At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay [it] up within thy gates:
Deu 14:29 KJV - And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which [are] within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
This is a command to support the Levite, poor, widow, orphans.
So Yes you should tithe every year. The annual tithe is for your fanily (there are no Levites or temple to bring them to) to do with as you please. Then every three years you are to support and give it away to the widow, poor, fatherless. In othere words charity.
If we in the African American nation would follow these simple commands, our communities would be much better off. Just think entire communities coming together every three years to decide what do build or improve, what business to start, what recreation center to start, what community center to build, homeless shelters, etc. etc., every three years. Federal government help!!! No! our tithes would suppoert our community. The entire community not just the church.
Now if you believe the Law was nailed to the cross, then give an offering or donation to wherever or whoever you choose.
The Law of Father YAH was, is and will always be. It is forever.
Brother Keith it is YOU who gave the Scriptural evidence to support what the brother is saying...for example
YOU POSTEDLev 27:30 KJV - And all the tithe of the land, [whether] of the seed of the land, [or] of the fruit of the tree, [is] the LORD'S: [it is] holy unto the LORD.
NOTHING ABOUT MONEY.....
YOU AGAIN POSTED - Mal 3:10 KJV - Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].
AGAIN NOTHING ABOUT MONEY..
UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND THE TITHING STRUCTURE (HIGH PREIST, PREIST ETC....YOU CANNOT USE TITHING AS MONEY...IT NEVER WAS AND CANNOT BE ABOUT MONEY BECAUSE THAT IS NOT HOW IT WAS SET UP BY YAHWEH..YES IF YOU WANT TO GIVE AN OFFERING (WICH MONEY WAS USED FOR SIN OFFERINGS AND MEN THE AGE OF 20 WOULD GIVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF SHEKELS...THEN YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT REAL TITHE IS...
AGAIN YOU HAVE ALREADY PROVIDED THE SCRIPTURES THAT SEPARATE A TITHE (LAND, FOOD ETC) FROM OFFERING (SAME OR MONEY) THERE IS A DIFFERENCE...
I agree with you as it relates to the tithe being the produce of the land. This produce of the land is wealth for the individual. Therefore I equate wealth in ancient times (cattle, crops, etc.) with wealth today (money).
Also did you not see what Jacob said Read: Gen 28:22 KJV - And this stone, which I have set [for] a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee
Is not Jacob saying that his tithe will be whatever it is that Father YAH gives him?? And could that increase be money as well?
But more directly, I must disagree with you on a tithe only being produce.
Read: Deu 14:24 KJV - And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; [or] if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
Deu 14:25 KJV - Then shalt thou turn [it] into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose
Here is a direct quote from The Most High that a tithe being money. Or if you like a tithe being equivalent to money.
Never the less, I am not a farmer or rancher. I have no garden or animals. Will I then say " I have no produce of the land therefore I do not have to tithe" No. I will not. Jacob tithed whatever he was given by Father YAH. I will do the same. Except my increase will be measured in currency.
Tithing was for all people not just Priests. The scripture I quoted above say nothing of priests only shall tithe.
The reason I stated James gave no scripture is due to the statement "Now concerning malachi & tithing, that has nothing to do with the common people, rather, everything to do with the Priests"
In order to edify me it would help to provide scripture on that matter as well as other matters when making a point then expound upon it.
It is all for learning the correct culture of our Holy Father.
Proverbs 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
Corinthians II 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
You honor the Lord when you can trust him with the first furits of thy increase, You sound like you have a heart to give then don't let anyone block you blessing. God said prove me or (try me) God's way work's my sister be blessed.
the Bible says we have to tithe. i feel ya tho - i have fallen short b4, and when that happens, i seem to have an even harder time financially. however, i have found if i suck it up and make sure i give my 10%, the Lord always provides! even if you give it to a needy cause or someone that needs help, thats considered tithing also.
Sis, how I see it is that the Pharisees tithed and they did it welllllll.
Jesus even pointed that out - so you cant take that away from them.
However - as Christians - those being Christ's Body - must go above and beyond what the Pharisees did.
This is where the spirit of the Lord gives life to the letter of the law.
As Christians we must give it all to Him. Meaning give the tithe and WHATEVER ELSE you have in your pocket - make sure its used for what God would do with the money.
Jesus did whatever He saw the Father do.
So since we are now followers of Christ we must do what He did - which is do whatever God wants with that money you worked for. Thats called living by the spirit instead of the DEAD letter of the law...
I wanna give a shout out to the BHI on the board :-)
