I grew up with a "Big Mama" but I also had a "Big Daddy" I never wanted to be like either one, so it took me a while to see Mr. Perry in drag. I still don't understand why black men don't act like their "Big Daddy" or their father instead of their neck snapping attitude mother or Grandmother.

Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" was one of his best movies. Let me say first, folks are talking like this movie may be like all the rest of his flicks, I don't think it's like the other movies.

Mr. Perry always have a great cast, I love Gladys Knight & Mary J Blige for get a bout it, one of my fav. female singers. Hope Olaide Wilson was the best, will see much from her in the coming years, Taraji P. Henson & Adam Rodriguez did a great job taking all the women in the movie theater through the emotions Mr. Rodriguez did a great job and will be a success. Mr. Rodriguez character was like most latinos I know, most latinos I met have strong family values. I don't know what's going on in Cali, I hope the black & Latino community can work out the problem they are having, but I think much of that is over square block money, but back to Mr. Tyler, one thing Mr. Tyler movie showed with Mrs. Wilson role was that how young black women are taking the parent role and raising the younger members in the family and Mr. Tyler also showed with Mrs. Henson & Mrs. Wilson role was that many black women are victims and that's why they have defenses that seem like a bad attitude problem. When folks are ran over & taken advantage of by folks they trust they don't trust other folks & have a lack of respect for others so when you first encounter a black women she may have a lot of attitude because that's her defense, the wall she put up between people and herself, black males do the same thing. Mr. Tyler also showed how respected the Church is in the community. The movie also showed how folks that manipulate others & use them try & keep them from going to Church.

Yours truly,
Anthony Smith

We need to wake up and see the set up how Hollyweird through the likes of Tyler Perry and the rest are systematically trying to persuade black men to be effeminate.
Another shock I am agreeing with Scott on this. Tyler Perry needs to check himself
You know why Tyler Perry is immensely popular, cause he's keeping it "real".You know, don't condemn nothing, don't judge nothing, don't speak out against sin, but glorify guns and drinking and clowning that appeals to mainly women who like to laugh and to escape into something that has a from of Godliness but lacks thereof. And yes I do believe for a long time that HollyWEIRD hates and despises real black men on and off camera. Face it you would have to have Oprahs stamp of approval and if your not sensitive and cry on clue and be submissive to the point where a man's intestinal fortitude is at stake then you are considered by most as insensitive as well as skewed as being a chauvinist. You would not be regarded today as market friendly if you don't have the right "cheese" and "step-it-fetch it appeal".. The way this world is going its only the likes of Tyler Perry who is very effeminate and makes all of us laugh that will ultimately be the standard in which all black men must be willing to get in line and be like and would we please shut up and be de-spined and put on that proverbial dress to not offend anyone of our God given right to be bold and manly as Christ had envisioned us to be. We are MEN doggone, and sometimes MEN go to WAR and sometimes MEN, real MEN make enemies based on MEN making and taking a stand against or for something that is worthwhile for the benefit of his family, community and nation.

When was the last time you saw a masculine man who was black today being interviewed because he was considered a "man's man" as they do of those who are white actors. Who today are the black male actors who are portrayed as serious actors that are called to do serious dialogue without their backs being bent, other than Denzel. When have you seen Tyler Perry ever making a stand against those things that are destroying our communities such as homosexuality, aids, fornication and abortion? Where is the scripture ever given on any of Tylers movies that didn't come with a laugh track?: And come to think of it, where is the outcry when folx are calling Tyler Perry's movies, "Christian" entertainment that makes fun of Christ, HIs word, His Truths, His Judgements, His Precepts and His Commandments....And we wonder why we are the laughing stock of the world, lets please wonder no more.....Its not by accident, but by design. And I'm not going out like 'dat, I have a SON for God's sake....*Jeesh*
The Flip Wilson show didn't purport to be a "Christian" show or have "Christian" actors and "Christian" directors of folk who are I thought were truly Christian and would start making movies that depict black Christianity of the likes of the same line and serious direction of that such "Braveheart" and "The Passion of Christ"...where the black version of braveheart and the Passion of Christ? Why do we always have to be bafoons whenever blacks decide to make a movie?? Why are we considered the "jokesters" and "come on sambo tell a few jokes" kind of negroes. Wonder why when I"m serious when speaking of my co-workers, they say "Scott your different" and I'm like, "different how??" They respond, "Your serious about your faith and your walk with Christ". Then they tell me they (white folk) didn't think we were serious thinkers concerning the Cross based on what they see on Tel-LIE-vision since most of us are a bunch of comedienne's and bafoon's. I awake my 7 year old son everyday by saying to him upon him arising, "Good morning King Simeon". I never say, "Good morning Town Jester Simeon"... Travel abroad for a minute out of the Western Hemisphere and see how the world views us as the so-called "African" american..Even the AFrican don't want to be associated with such debauchery....

And tv and the media has an agenda..You ever watched or studied the first moving picture show called, "Birth of a Nation??" Was that entertainment? That was a movie that depicted black people as animals and as black demons while kidnapping "MarybetsyAnne" and trying to rape her frail, freckled behind by the "boogey" man black man and guess who came to her rescue in the movie? It was the Klu Klux Klan..it was that movie that gave rise to the KKK that we know of today...Was that done for entertainment value?? I think not...One of the reasons I am the gatekeeper of my home as to what my son and daughter watch through those eye gates of the likes of HollyWeird and the ever-so-effeminate Tyler Perry...
No not ironic to me, they would love to come to America to take advantage of our free educational system as well as our scholarship programs for them to get an education that they don't take for granted. We have in Harlem and throughout NY a high percentage of black teenagers dropping out of free schools let alone going to a university that comes with a fee. Those Africans who come here see an oppurtunity and seize upon it and do much better than their African American counterparts here in America where we have been here for centuries. When was the last time you saw a huge Nigerian contingent walking and marching in the middle of the street saying loudly, "were fired up and not taking it any more" and take it everyday. They just focus on getting their education and many times go back to AFrica to work in Government. Trust most Africans laugh at us because we do not have knowledge of self and don't know how to even live peaceably among each other even within the context of our own family. We do not have a communal understanding of village life, but would rather live like our former slave master as individualists. So why would anyone want to associate with a people who are that confused and even mock their own faith?
What I was trying to understand is why do black males look at the women as the strongest member of the family?

FLIP WILSON SHOW as Geraldine Jones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hykz5Wud7jk

O.K. I see Bro. Watson what you are talking about, I wasn't born when the 'Flip Wilson Show' was out, I heard about 'Flip.' I'm not saying Mr. Perry is gay or a bisexual because he dressed in drag, I understand he's in character. I'm not here questioning Mr. Perry's gender or Christian faith, I would never do that. I remember Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire, I like Mr. Williams as a comedian. Again, What I was trying to understand is why do black males look at the women as the strongest member of the family & not the males?

I think Brother Newman make good points in his post.
Anthony Smith,

I love how you take pop culture events and happenings and bring a little education in your commentary. There is a young preacher I know of who does the same things in his messages. But now when someone in my age group attempts to talk to peers about it, they are simply not in touch. Cant relate. Well Ive one offline ministry buddy who can, but most cannot.

Keep it up, I'm enjoying hearing from you. I'd actually forgotten this movie was released. I'm gonna see it.
