Rise of the Guardians tells the story of a group of well-known childhood heroes (Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and Sandman) – each with their own extraordinary abilities. When an evil spirit known as Pitch (also known as The Boogeyman) lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children all over the world.
The story centers on the mythical legends of Santa, The Sandman, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny as they strive to protect the children of the world. This is like The Avengers of holiday mascots. It looks a bit silly, but something I'm sure the kids will enjoy watching. It doesn't hurt that Guilermo del Toro helped develop it.

Director Peter Ramsey, a longtime storyboard artist making his feature directorial debut after beginning with the 2009 telefilm Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space, never misses a chance to throw in one more roller-coaster-like visual ride to pump up the 3D experience. But the characters and settings are attractively designed, and the vocal performances have real color and a sense of fun that gently undercuts the treacly sincerity of certain obligatory kid-pandering moments.
