The focus on the death of Christ is usually more significant at this time of the year. But actually it ought to be a continual focus for us who believe in Christ. In fact, Jesus said the frequent participation of the Lord's table should be an occasion for remembering His death.

Why remember the death of Christ? Many do and react by weeping or feeling sorry for the suffering Christ went through. But I think the greatest regard we can give to Christ when we ponder on His death is to appreciate the purpose of His death and to accept the fact that the purpose of His death was not in vain.

In order words, if God paid such an awesome price by the death of Christ to save us, it means that our salvation is sure and effective. It works. So in remembering the death of Christ, pondering on the reason the Scriptures state He died, it would be beneficial to review all the blessings of this great salvation that He died to provide, and accept them with thankfulness to God.

I believe those of you who struggle with guilt of past sins and a sense of unworthiness or condemnation will certainly find true relief by pondering and appreciating the immense suffering and cost of the death of Christ and the purpose of it all with regard to your sins and the forgiveness of God.

Romans 8:31-34 (NLT):
31: What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
32: Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won't He also give us everything else?
33: Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own? No one--for God Himself has given us right standing with Himself.
34: Who then will condemn us? No one--for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honor at God's right hand, pleading for us.
