15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Eccl 12:13,

Bro. Bowman has already replied to these questions and I stand in agreement - Period
Bro. Bowman also said the following; "That there was only one Sabbath day that week" and that is wrong.

Jesus celebrated the Passover the same week He died;

Matt.26
[2] Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

But the first day of unleaven bread is a Sabbath day;

Lev.23
[7] In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

Which is why the scriptures said it was a "high Sabbath". One of seven yearly Sabbaths God has along with His weekly sabbath day.

Just use common sense for a minute;

How can Jesus be buried BEFORE the Sabbath, be in the ground for ANY amount of time and then rise the ON the Sabbath?

There HAD to be (2) Sabbaths in the week Jesus died!
Eccl. 12:13
I believe you are having a difficult time reading my posts. What I said was,

Quote.

My friend, your question has no answer. It is based on several false premises

A day starts at sunrise and ends at sunset.

The week was a seven solar-day week.

That there was only one Sabbath day that week

That there was only one 'first day' that week. .......

End quote.

As noted, these are included a list of 'false premises'.

Shalom
To Bro. Bowman: I stand corrected. I did, in fact, misread your statement.

You did NOT say there was only one sabbath in the week. I understand you were saying that it was a false premise that there was only one Sabbath in the week of Jesus death.

I did not mean to misquote you.

To address the four questions arising from the following passage:

2 Peter 3:14-16: Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things G5100 hard to be understood G1425, which they that are unlearned G261 and unstable G793 wrest G4761 G5719, as they do also the other G3062 scriptures G1124, unto their own destruction.

(1 & 2) Why did he warn his readers, and what was the warning pertaining to?

Paul was noted for writing of the suffering of Christ and the salvation such suffering purchased, and that while his writings contain the truth concerning the man Jesus, Paul does not write from a shared experience as the other apostles. Paul's knowledge/wisdom cam from time spent in direct revelation with the Holy Spirit. Paul was also a doctor of the law, and was therefore knowledgeable of the scriptures (written and oral) as well as the 'traditions of the fathers', beyond the ability of most men of his time. Therefore, you are warned not to make too many quick assumptions or draw too many quick conclusions concerning Paul's letters. They are to be studied, not glossed over.

(3) The reference to being unlearned [and unstable] is [a] reference to being unlearned in what?

The reference to the 'unlearned' and the 'unstable' carries the connotation of a person who is ignorant and rude about it, even to the point of being an idiot, and that they are unstable (vacillating) in their ability to understand (to include the accurate sharing of) spiritual things. The object of this ignorant is the Holy Scriptures, the Tanakh (the only scriptures known to the initial church).The implication is that these folks pervert the scriptures concerning the Messiah just as they have perverted the other scriptures concerning God's instructions in righteousness.

The implication being that the people being referenced to in these scriptures are self deluded in their ignorance, thinking that they are the keepers of divine knowledge (which could be true in some instances) but are still lacking in spiritual wisdom and discernment, which make their knowledge not only useless, but even dangerous.

And, to 'wrest' scripture is to wrench them from their rightful place and application, i.e. (specially), to torture (by the rack), but only figuratively, to pervert, as to pervert the scriptures by doing great violence to them by taking away and adding to (Deuteronomy 12:32 (13-1) All this word [Torah] which I command you, that shall ye observe to do; thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.).

(4) How do we apply this warning to our teaching & learning?

We must allow the scriptures and the Spirit unfold both the surface meaning of the scriptures (the Torah, the first five books of Instruction plus the writing of the prophets) and to allow them to then unfold the deeper spiritual meaning (the foundation) behind the obvious – as illustrated by Jesus in His discourse in Mathew chapters five through seven.

We are to be ever vigilant against those who would do violence to the word of God, to use the word to become lords over God's household, or to use the word in order to gain a spiritual or material advantage over another. The sister verses would be:

1 Timothy 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity (love) out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;(having…: or, not aiming at) 7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

And, 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” But, without God's Spirit working with a good knowledge of the language, history, culture and religion of the scriptures and its people, how can one expect to 'rightly divide' God's word? By the Spirit alone? That is a nice religious thought, but the history of the church testifies otherwise.

Conclusion: Do not take any teaching you receive at face value - just because it comes from one you may think is trustworthy. Test everything and study for yourself. Take godly counsel and spend some time with our Lord.
