WOMEN WEARING PANTS IN CHURCH....

[HOPE - Psalm 43:5]

Over the years, I have heard many men and women in the holiness denominations say that women shouldn't wear pants in the church.

Were is the scripture to support the ideology that women shouldn't wear pants? If it is in scripture then I would have to ask why are men wearing pants? Did men wear pants in biblical times or did their wear something that covered their loins and then long robe like attire? I mean isn't that what you depict in your biblical plays? So why aren't the men being asked to wear similar apparel in the church to maintain a outward appearance of holiness? Why aren't they asked to not cut their hair (both facial and head)

What are the clothing designations for men in the holiness denominations.

After all, without holiness NO man/woman shall see God.....

The Vital Sign of Joy  
Perhaps you feel God needs to do a work in your life to revive you spiritually, but you just don’t know what it is.  
 
Over the next few weeks, I want to point you to the vital signs that may indicate the need for spiritual revival in your life.  The first one we find in Psalm 85.  It is lack of joy.   Look at the language in verse 6,
 
Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?
 
When a person is sullen and depressed spiritually, cheerless and despondent, it is a sure sign that they need revival.
 
You might say, “Well, you know, if my circumstances would just change, then I would rejoice.”  No.  Joy is not dependent upon your circumstances.  In fact, let me give you a great example.
 
2 Corinthians 8:1-2states,
 
Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia:  that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.
 
Notice this language.  The Macedonians were not in a little trial.  They were in a “great trial of affliction.”  They were experiencing deep poverty, tremendous lack in their life, and yet they had abundant joy.
 
What was their secret?  Living in the grace of God.
 
More than anything else, joy is dependent upon understanding the grace of God, knowing that God’s grace is at work even in your affliction. 
 
If you are joyless today, ask the Spirit of God to fill your heart.  If you do, there will be a joy regardless of what you are facing.

i don't know more about bible but i want to tell you that it doesn't matter what you wear but how you wear.when we go to church we worship jesus and praise him but if you are going church just for fashion than it different reason. in my church we allow girls to wear pants but when they are sitting on choir group we put robe. in my opinion we should worship God just as we are because he will accept no matter what we wear but we should not forget our place.

 

In this world there are many kind of religions and there are different kind of culture but in our world there is only one culture and that is to worship Jesus. So if you think that you are worthy to praise in no matter which dress you wear than he will always be with you.

Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so [are] abomination unto the LORD thy God.

 

The context is what is pertaineth to a man??? or woman?   Also what were they wearing when this was written?  Another question to as ones self.  Does the pant suit I wear resemble the pants suit a man wear? 

 

This is sad that the body of christ can let something so small run souls a way.  I was told by a "female" Apostolic pastor that I ought not bring my self under judgement by coming in "her" church in pants.

 

Not there are many issues with that statement. First only God and the rightous can Judge and I haven't meet a righteus man or women in any clothing for we all have sinned and fell short!  ]

Second it's not her church we are the church.

Another thing is will she take the bible Verses:

"As in all the churches of the saints, the women should keep silence in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says. If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. What! Did the word of God originate with you, or are you the only ones it has reached? If any one thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that what I am writing to you is a command of the Lord. If any one does not recognize this, he is not recognized" (1 Corinthians 14:33-38).

So where do you go from here:

Go in love!  Win souls and don't push them away because of your dress code!

 

I am not and ordained, preacher, pastor or any other title.  But I have the best title  A CHRISTIAN THAT LOVES THE LORD AND HIS PEOPLE. So I leave you with this:

I am so sorry you had to experience that. To me that is a Pharisaical spirit that is permeating the church today. The law and grace does not go together. It's either grace or the law. I prefer grace.THANK YOU JESUS

Lets go one step further, Please show me in the scriptures where you have to be educated by a seminary or have a doctorate or degree to preach, teach or lead in the church. So before you answer, please tell me why you can't be part of a ministry in a big church if you don't have a piece of paper stating you are qualified.

Where I come from, we don't believe GOD calls the qualified, but qualifies the called.

The pants issue is mans decree, I don't think its biblical. I know the educated issue is, they are wanting to limit who can preach and what they preach, you better be alert for the changes that have happened and the ones on the horizon.

Wearing pants is a non-essential. Our only concern is whether people are being saved and delivered. If anyone says it is sinful for women to wear pants they should read I Cor. 6:12, 10:23 and Gal. 5:18. We spend way too much time on things of no value. Wearing pants will never send anyone to Hell; rejecting Christ will. That is a doctrine of man not of God

Excellent question and very thought provoking question.  Check out http://en.wikepedia.org/wike/Trousers.  For me personally, I have experienced seeing frustrations from old and newborn babes in Christ on subject.  There are many churches (and the people in it) are too caught more on the outward appearance of a man/woman than the heart.  Some are caught up on Deuteronomy 22: 5...that verse commands men and women not to reverse their sexual roles.  It's not a statement about clothing styles.  Today role rejections are very common-there are men who want to become (and look like) women and women who want to become (and look like) men.  What an "untoward and wicked generation" we are living in.  Your question of the clothing designations for men in the holiness denominations are varied.  The same for women.  Having experienced been a apart of many denominations, it will vary from your dress attire as "clergy", laity...from your attire in special events, meetings, ceremonial services to the so-called, "dress down services"..and the "dress code". It's horrbily frightening when someone wants to go to church within their area for lack of transporation or personal situation and their fear is "are folk going to look at what I have on...I don't have a suit...only jeans...no tie...no dress...".  It's horribly complicated to the point many walk out on some holiness churches because people from the pulpit to the pews focus on what someone is wearing.  Out of respect, one should be appropriate and use common sense, but remember sister everyone in the "church building" does not know the Lord.  Some men and women have come from certain cultures, and environmental upbringing and just don't know.  I once asked a fellow usher why are some of the ladies coming in here dressed with their skirts so short?  Others ask, what is the appropriate dress code for the men in such and such meeting or service?  Why was a sister removed from the clergy or her seat for not wearing stockings?  Why was such and such brother not allowed in this or that meeting or participate in that conference.  Sister, you'd be shocked from the responses.  Many leave "denominations" and go non-denomination because they've been hurt. It is a necessity to dress appropriately and some do need to be taught. Your question, I first suggest to ask your local pastor/bishop or in your Women's meeting/conference or be bold like me, "why are you looking at my outward appearance than my heart?  What's your problem?"  Try it and see who is really humble as a servant of the Lord.  Stay encouraged and be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might...God bless.   Chaplain Perry.  email:  [e-mail]

Dear Hope,

 

I hear the same argument in the body of Christ when I gave my life to follow the Lord years ago. I think the condition of the body of Christ, we shouldn't debate over foolish issues as this. There are other things that need to be brought to the head, sin, hypocrites, fornication, molestation,divorce,  in the body  of Christ.  I say this to women and who are Christians, it's not about the pants, but use careful judgement of what you wear, I know as we go into different places of work and come into contact with some many individuals, and everyman doesn't have the mind of Christ, so be mindful of what you wear.
