God knows exactly the kind of friends we need when we’re having “a moment.”  Some enter into it with us, identifying and empathizing.  Some start analyzing, wanting to help us figure it out.  And some get in our face.

This is one of my friend’s specialties.  She doesn’t mince words.  No hemming and hawing.  No pulling of punches.  She tells me what I need to hear.  Period.  I emailed her Friday after receiving some news (Doesn’t it seem like I’ve gotten more than my share of disappointing news lately?  Can someone ask God what’s up with that?).  I hadn’t intended to email anyone.  But as I slipped on a jacket to run an errand, the Lord moved me to tell her.  So I sat down and typed it out, telling her “the problem” and why I was disappointed.

What did she do?  She threw my own words back at me, telling me I was “leaning” based on Proverbs 3:5:  “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”).  Then she threw one of my blog posts back at me.  And she took the liberty of reminding me I was not in control, that God’s will will be done, and that she was laughing because she already knew that one day we’d be laughing together at this and saying, “Remember when…”  Oh, and she ended her email with this:

Now, start thanking and praising Him for what He has done, what He is doing and what He will do in the future.  Also thank Him for not answering your prayers in His timing because His timing is perfect.

At this point, I was laughing because God was all over that exchange.  He knew I didn’t need empathy in that moment.  I simply needed to be checked.  As a result, I saw the situation differently, and I really could start thanking and praising Him.  I love that she loved me enough to get in my face with truth.

Do you have a friend who is willing to get in your face when you need it and remind you, “What thus saith the Lord?”  Or…are you that kind of friend to others?

Amazing! I love this, and there are points and times when God will have us and others to do just this thing! He knows exactly what we need and when we need a spiritual and even emotional "push"! Praise the Lord! ;)
