It was a Sunday afternoon some time back. I can remember, it was beautiful day outside; the birds were singing and the breeze was just perfect. Carrying on it the aroma of distant wildflowers and the scent of the pine trees that lined the carefully tended to property. Also on the property was a small stream of water. As I sat, and looked upon my reflection; off what appeared as a glittering kaleidoscope of dancing lights bouncing off the ripples flowing over the rocks below, the stream that carried with it nourishment for the plants, trees and animals around me, would upon that day also be a vessel for the teaching of the Lord.

God came to me as he often does in these times and he began to use my surroundings to speak to me about something that I could tell truly burdened him. Have you ever been spoken to by the Father in this manner? God often uses techniques such as this to speak to people on a daily basis. Whether they hear it or not is the question. Or would it be better to say – Are they paying any attention to it? That would be the better question?

Often, when it comes to our external appearance we can for the most part put off a persona of happiness, joy, peace or contentment –amen? We are taught to as children to be strong in front of people. Not to show our feelings in public or to rock the boat to much. We are taught to be one person in the eyes of the world, yet within many, lay something far different then what shines on the outside. Inside many, simply lies a house burdened in chaos. They walk in silent tears, unable to recognize their true path of live, or to even once hear the voice of their creator. Inside them is a house full of many rooms, packed full of collected treasures that have only yet haunted them and never lead to any kind of peace or emotional contentment. Does this sound familiar to anyone today? If so, there is hope my friend, I know the one that holds the key, to even your future.

I was told by someone just a short time ago that they never heard God speak. They had been a Christian for years, yet the only voice they seemed to hear was the preacher twice a week .I told them the problem is not that God is not speaking to you, or that you were not necessarily hearing him. The problem was in the inability to listen correctly. God speaks every day through his many ministers and loving children, but he himself, speaks in a manner of confirmation. Yes the teachings come from the mouths and writings of his people, but it is the spirit of God within us that speaks to us and confirms its validity. How many us learn everyday by simply watching those around them? Simply observing everyday life and considering the bigger picture? Ever consider that very act was the spirit’s instruction? In John14; 26 ( NIV) we read this –“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Learning to listen is the key to understanding Godly wisdom. The Bible of course is our physical blueprint in learning to separate truth from fiction, and good from bad. It is the necessarily knowledge needed to properly know upon which voice you are hearing. Not everyone will hear God’s audible voice, but I tell you he does speak to everyone, he speaks to your spirit and for this reason if your knowledge of spirit is less than it should be, than your relationship with God most likely is to. To commune with God you must do so in truth and in spirit. In John 4:24 we read this –“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” We must learn to get past just what our physical eyes can see, and learn to see from a metaphorically different set of eyes. To do this we must empty our cup so to speak. Much like a cup full of water can not hold any more water without spilling over, so also is a person of preconceived ideas and human theories. We need to be willing to let go of these ideas and simply open ourselves to God and his spirit. Using all of our senses and simply listening to his creation speak. As we mature the spirit of God will use the lessons we have learned in church and from the preacher and he will teach us to apply these lessons to our everyday lives by observing all the things around us and confirming these teachings to our spirit as he reminds us of them. So we see, learning the true word is vital and the number one factor in your spiritual walk.

Has the burden of life deafened your ears to the voice of God? Has the chaos blinded your eyes to the beauty of his creation? Are you tired of living an empty spiritual life, void of all interaction between you and your real God? Does your church teach of such things, and if not, should you consider changing churches? I don’t care where you are today my friend, God loves you and he has a plan for you. The thing is , you have to be willing to step into that plan. Set aside some time and just listen to what God has to say to you. I leave you today with this scripture. Isaiah 1:18 (NIV) “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
