PNBC Convention Health Ministry Report 09

Departmental Session: Nursing/Health Ministry Dept.
We invite you to join us in our mission to improve the health and well-being of those in our congregations and communities.

MAKING AN IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE
IN THE LIVES OF SO MANY.

Psalms 41: 1-3 says:
Happy are those who are concerned for the poor; the Lord will help them when they are in trouble. The Lord will protect them and preserve their lives; he will make them happy in the land; he will not abandon them to the power of their enemies. The Lord will help them when they are sick and will restore them to health.

THE PASSION OF OUR PURPOSE
Those of us actively involved in the Progressive National Baptist Convention (PNBC) Health Ministries are passionate about our purpose. We actively seek to make an important difference in the lives of those in our churches and communities. Staggering national statistics reveal that minorities in general and African-Americans in particular, are at much higher risk than other populations for chronic diseases and premature death. We know we can change lives and improve the health and well-being of others through education and awareness and through caring and compassion.

HISTORY
The Health Ministries Department of PNBC, formerly known as the Nurses Guild, began in 1992 as a church-based educational health ministry in Detroit, Michigan. Because African-Americans have the highest incidence of chronic illness compared with other majority populations, this group of dedicated nurses was determined to make a difference. Their solution was to help others through the creation of a health ministry. They had the vision to expand the traditional role of church nurses to become health care ministers who could benefit and serve congregations throughout the nation.

THE PNBC HEALTH MINISTRIES MISSION
The PNBC Health Ministry mission seeks to strengthen our congregations physically, mentally and spiritually -- to serve God by serving others. The ministry promotes holistic wellness within our congregations, addressing individual heath concerns and the welfare of entire congregations. We do so by educating and encouraging our members to take personal responsibility and a proactive approach toward their own well-being, while remaining compassionate and helpful to others.

PROJECTS: Will work with all PNBC Churches along with Body & Soul and actively address health crisis facing our community. We encourage nurses, doctors, dentists, mental health professionals, lawyers, Secretaries, Dock workers, Grocery Store Attendants, School Teachers, Housewives, Househusbands and anyone who is concerned with good health, to consider joining the health ministry and making a difference in the lives of many

Thanks again and have a blessed day.
