I am amazed at how tenaciously some folks cling to doctrine in spite of truth. In the coming weeks, I’m going to deal with some very serious damage done to the church by the building of doctrine around situational Biblical text. I promise, you’ll want to stay tuned for this because you’re going to hear some blockbuster truth that will shake your religious foundation to dust! But the one I want to deal with today is what may be everyone’s favorite:

Tithing.

Now, I’ve dealt with this on multiple occasions and in multiple articles and have empirically proven that tithing is not commanded for the New Testament believer. And before I get started down this path, let me say that I AM in favor of “grace giving,” in other words, give because it is right, give cheerfully, give generously, and give consistently.

There is no Scripture to support tithing for the New Covenant saint. Period. In order to support this construct, you must either drag up and dust off a covenant that was buried with Jesus and stayed in the ground when He was resurrected or build an extra-biblical straw-man, like, "How do you expect the church to have operating capital?" To this, I respond, "If you require all that money to operate, you may need to re-evaluate the purpose of your local church body..."

How many of you have heard these?

I need 100 people to sow a $1000 seed…

This church is good ground to sow seed into…

Sow a $103 seed for your healing…

God says, “Sow seed and I’ll bless you…”

There is an interesting characteristic about seed – it multiplies on its own! Whether it’s seed for grain, seed for vegetables, or seed of people, the unique characteristic of seed is its ability to reproduce after its own kind.

Now, when the Bible talks about seed, it is either speaking of plant, animal, human, or the Word of God.

Never, ever, ever does the Bible refer to seed as money! You absolutely, positively, have to catch this! Do not be deceived – money is not “seed.”

One thing every believer can agree upon is that God is just. But, if all there is to salvation is getting your ticket to heaven punched, then as soon as we accept, believe upon, and confess Jesus as Lord and Savior, we’d be raptured up immediately into heaven.

But we remain after the New Birth. What’s up with that?

The New Birth, contrary to popular belief, is not a religious experience, It is a change of citizenship into a new nation (Colossians 1:13), whose Government, Provision, and Protection CANNOT fail! You become a royal subject of the King of Kings, who delights in the prosperity of His servants (Psalm 35:27).

Covering

Okay, I’m about to deal with something wildly unpopular. I feel led – indeed, compelled – to deal with the concept of “covering.” As a Pastor and a Bishop, this topic comes up in my circles with increasing frequency. I have been asked who is my covering and, also, whom do I cover?

The short answers are, the Holy Spirit and no one.

This is my opening salvo – I’ve thrown down this gauntlet before and, for the sake of this tome, I will do it again:

Where, exactly, is the concept or principle of “covering” elucidated in scripture? My contention is that it is not.

Five Basic Questions to help you plug into your God-given Purpose...

1. What is it that I do most effortlessly – that is, that it pleases me and I am so passionate about it that I do not struggle in it?

2. What is it that agitates or irritates me most?
