Invitations From Elohim ~ The Invitation to Bear His Image

“So Elohim created man in His own image;in the image of Elohim He created him”. (Genesis 1:27)

Jews and Christians share a belief that man was created in the image of God. No other creature can mimic that, try as they might, science just can not link monkeys and man.. (does not seem to stop them though.. guess you could say they are being made monkeys of ha ha) The sages say that YHWH filled the earth with life, and by the virtue of His blessing man is to emulate Him by continually through replenishing the earth, and by seeking justice and righteousness.

Genesis 1:27 the word translated as “in” can also be translated “as” so reading it could rea Elohim created man as His own image. Through history we find conquerers creating images of them selves, this was to serve a a reminder to all who lived in the subdued land as to who was in charge. As followers of YHWH we have the function of being an image nearer. I use the example of being an image bearer when I tell students to stand before a mirror. Which one I ask is the real person ... “I am” they reply, “What stands before you then”? I ask, “My image “ they reply, same with YHWH, we are that reflection in the mirror, like that image our left is right our right is left , but we look just like our creator.

The same YHWH that shows him self to Moshe invites you to be His image? When people look at you do they see their God?? encounter do we as He declared to Moshe, merciful? Are we gracious, and long suffering? Do we abound in goodness and in truth? Elohim invites you .. bear His image, a sign post to this lost and dark world, that Elohim is in control and is merciful. I can think of no greater honor.
