Richard A. Young, II
Revelation 21: 1-8, “Descent of New Jerusalem”
Memory verse: Revelation 21: 5 NKJV, Then He that sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
The present creation will be destroyed that it may be cleansed from all the effects of sin, just as you were when you accepted Christ into your life as your personal Lord and Savior and were baptized. You then became a new creation and were cleansed from the effects of sin, and the penalty of sin, which is death. As a child of God, now you have the gift of everlasting life, in Christ Jesus.
This new heaven and earth should not be confused with the new heaven and earth referenced in Isaiah 65: 17-25. In Isaiah’s vision the Millennium is in view, yet sin and death are still present. Here in John’s vision, Eternity is in view, where sin and death have been erased and passed away; therefore, there is no more death, crying, sorrow, nor pain. New Jerusalem is the Heavenly residence of the Saints of God, the Bride of the Lamb, and the place Christ is preparing for His people. Those of us, called by His name, are citizens of New Jerusalem. This will be our eternal place of worship and activity in the Kingdom of God. From the beginning God intended a blameless humanity to dwell with Him in Heaven for all eternity. This is the ideal place Adam fell from. So, by one man, sin entered, then by one man are all men set free! Through Adam we are born of the earth, yet by Christ we are reborn of Heaven. And we shall live in a new intimacy with God, throughout all eternity.
