The high rate of incarceration of black men and youths in the United States prison system is becoming increasingly detrimental. At the moment, there are 2.4m people incarcerated. Black men make up 1.3million which is more than 60% of those incarcerated. Remember, blacks in the US are 12-13% of the total United States population. Think about it, with more than 1.3m incarcerated and 3m on parole, think about the economic implications of generational impoverishment, the social implications on black marriage and the black family structure with increase in single parenting, the health implications of HIV and AIDS etc. Preach the Word but don't forget is social relevance. www.churchandprison.org
